Karthigai Thiruvonam 2014 at Sri Parthasarathi Swami Temple

Today 27^th Nov 2014 [11^th day of Karthigai month] is Thiruvonam.  On every Thiruvonam day, at Thiruvallikkeni there will chinna mada veethi purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi.  Here are some photos taken during today’s purappadu.

Today is day 2 of Thirumangai Mannan Uthsavam.  After the purappadu,  Sri Poigai Azhwar, Sri Kaliyan, Pillai Logachar and Sri Vedanthachar were seated near Sri Parthasarathi and there was goshti of ‘Irandam Thiruvanthathi and Irandam pathu of Thiruvaimozhi’.  

5^th Dec 2014 is  ‘Karthigai Thirunakshathiram in the month of Karthigai’ marking the sarrumurai of Thirumangai Azhwar.  The next day is Pournami (6.12.14) and from the midnight of that day till 27.12.2014 evening, one cannot have darshan of the Presiding deities [Moolavar] in all sannathies in Sri Parthasarathi Swami temple.

Sri Mudaliandan Vanabojana Uthsavam at Singaperumal Kovil

Sri Ramanujar has the pride of place in the list of our Acharyars; he is hailed as Udayavar, Emperumanar, Bashyakarar, Ilayazhwaar, Yathirajar, Thiruppavai Jeeyar, Num Kovil annan,  amongst other names.   Our darsana Sthapakar, Sri Ramanujar rightly reverred as ‘Yathi Rajar’ ~ the king among yathis [hermits and sages, the greatest reformer he was, Ramanuja gave us many vedantic treatises - toured the entire Country, making the Srivaishnavatie tradition flourish in all his path. 

Of those who remained closest to Sri Ramanuja – Sri  Mudaliandan, Sri Koorathazhwan, Sri Embar,  Sri Ananthazhwan, Arulalaperumal Emperumanar, Kidambi Achaan, Thirukurugai Piraan Pillan, Thiruvarangathu Amuthanar and more.  Sri Mudaliandan Swami is reverred as Trithandam and Sri Koorathazhwan as Thiruppavithram for Swami Ramanujar.    Sri Mudaliandan was born as Dasarathi and now hailed as ‘Yathiraja Paduka’ – thiruvadi of Bhagwat Ramanujar. 

Singaperumal Koil lying 22 kms away from Tambaram on NH45 is famous for Sri Padalatri Narasimhar Temple.  At this abhimana sthalam is situated the thirumaligai of Sri Mudali Andan Swami.  Today (23^rd Nov 2014) is the Vana Bojana mahotsavam of Swami and here are some photos taken today at Singaperumal Kovil

Thiruvallikkeni Karthigai Amavasai Purappadu 2014.

Today [22^nd Nov 2014] is Amavasai and Karthigai  ‘Visakam’.  At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, there was grand purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi, photos of which are here.

After the purappadu there was ‘Thiruvirutham’ goshti at Nammalwar sannathi.

Thirumylai Sri Peyalwar purappadu with Sri Parthasarathi.

 I had posted in detail on Muthal Azhwargal of our  Srivaishanva Tradition, and the mangalasasana purappadu of Sri Peyalwar from his place in Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal Thirukovil at Thirumayilai to Thiruvallikkeni. 

Azhwar was received with ‘Thirukovil mariyathai’ of Sri Sadagopam in a pallakku accompanied by Senai Muthalvar.  Then Sri Peyalwar reached the thirukovil through Peyalwar kovil Street.  Inside the temple, Azhwar mangalasasanam took place in the Periya sannathi,  Vedavalli thayar, Gajendra Varadhar, Thelliya Singar and Andal sannathies.

In the evening of 18^th Nov 2014, there was grand purappadu on the occasion of Ekadasi with Azhwar and Sri Parthasarathi.  Perumal perhaps was delighted with Sri Peyazhwar accompanying him – dazzled with so many thiruvabaranams (jewels) and unforgettable hair style (kondai) embellished by peacock feather (mayil peeli) – matched the description of Sri Periyalwar “ கருங்கண் தோகை மயிற்பீலியணிந்து கட்டி நன்குடுத்த பீதக வாடை; அருங்கலவுருவினாயர் பெருமான்”  ~ Periyazhwar describes Lord Krishna, the beautiful cowherd Lord as adorning the hairdo  with peacock feathers having dark centre spots, many jewels over his properly-worn  silken vestments.

It was delightful to have darshan of Perumal and here  are some photos taken during the purappadu at Thiruvallikkeni on 18^th Nov 2014 – Ekadasi – Mylai Sri Peyalwar Mangalasasanam day.
