பருத்த துதிக்கையையுடைய (குவலயா பீடமென்னும்) யானையினது தந்தங்களை பிடுங்கிக் கொன்று,  அந்த யானையின் பாகனையும் உயிர் தொலைத்திட்டு உள்ளே நுழைந்து மல்லர்களை ஒன்றுசேர முடித்திட்டு, அதற்குப் பிறகு கம்ஸனை முடித்தருளிய கண்ணபிரான்  நித்யவாஸம் பண்ணுமிடம்;  கருப்பஞ்சோலைகளின் இடையே ஓங்கி வளரானின்ற செந்நெற் பயிர்கள் விளையப்பெற்ற கழனிகளில் நிறைந்திருக்கிற நடைவாவிகளினுடைய -  "வண்புருடோத்தமம்"  எனும் திருத்தலம்.

Thiruvallikkeni Thiru Pavithrothsavam - day 1 - 2025

Today 2^nd Sept 2025 - is  day 1  of Thirupavithrothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam – Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman had periya mada veethi purappadu this evening. 

Vasantha finds her husband Ranganathan dead. A masked murderer tries to kill her too, but she escapes from him. Vasantha is left in a state of shock and becomes mentally paralysed.   More murders follow and   every time a murder takes place,  a cigar bit is  left by the murderer intentionally.   That was the plot of -  Athey Kangal (அதே கண்கள் -Same Eyes) written and directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar, starring Rvichandran and Kanchana, released in 1967  produced by A. V. Meiyappan under Balasubramanian & Co, a subsidiary of his company AVM Productions.  

Arabs capture French Captain de Cadiere (Bryant), but he escapes with the help of Hassouna (Nazimova), a young Bedouin woman of the desert. She is abandoned to die by the irate sheik (Stern),  captured by marauders of the desert sands, and is sold in slavery to the manager of a small French circus. The Captain, at a show near a small town where his ship is anchored, finds the Bedouin woman and takes her to his home. After hearing that the Captain's detachment has killed all of her tribe in the desert, she vows vengeance upon the Frenchman. However, she fails in the execution of her threat due to his love for her. -  that was the plot of ‘Eye for Eye’ - 1918 American silent drama film directed by Albert Capellani.   There seems to be many movies made with the same name at different decades ! 

Eyes are  very important organ. A healthy pair of eyes means a clear vision, which plays a major role in day-to-day life and quality of experiences. Humans have binocular vision, meaning that both the eyes create a single combined image. Optical components create an image, which further gets perceived and interpreted by the brain via connecting neurons. The eye sits in a protective bony socket called the orbit. Six extraocular muscles in the orbit are attached to the eye. These muscles move the eye up and down, side to side, and rotate the eye. The extraocular muscles are attached to the white part of the eye called the sclera. This is a strong layer of tissue that covers nearly the entire surface of the eyeball.  Light is focused into the eye through the clear, dome-shaped front portion of the eye called the cornea.

இமை - நாம் அனைவரும் அறிந்ததே ! கண்விழியை மூடி திறக்கவல்ல தோலுறுப்பு.   கண் சிமிட்டும் நேரம், ஒரு மாத்திரை எனப்படும். 'கண்ணை இமை காப்பது போல்...’ என்பார்கள்  - அவ்வாறு  இமைகள் நம் கண்களை காக்கின்றன.    கண்ணுக்கு அழகும் முகத்துக்குப் பொலிவும் தருவது மட்டும் அல்ல, கண்கள் உலர்ந்து விடாமலும், பாக்டீரியா முதலிய தூசுகள் கண்களில் விழுந்து விடாமல் தடுக்கும் அரணாகவும் கண் இமையில் உள்ள முடிகள் செயல்படுகின்றன.  இன்றைய உலகத்தில் கணினியில் மிக அதிக நேரம் செலுத்துவோர் கண் மற்றும் இமையில் வலி அல்லது மற்ற பிரச்னைகளை சந்திக்கிறார்கள்.  

The nictitating membrane (from Latin nictare, to blink) is a transparent or translucent third eyelid present in some animals that can be drawn across the eye from the medial canthus to protect and moisten it while maintaining vision.  An eyelid is a thin fold of skin that covers and protects an eye. The levator palpebrae superioris muscle retracts the eyelid, exposing the cornea to the outside, giving vision. This can be either voluntarily or involuntarily. The human eyelid features a row of eyelashes along the eyelid margin, which serve to heighten the protection of the eye from dust and foreign debris, as well as from perspiration. "Palpebral" (and "blepharal") means relating to the eyelids. Its key function is to regularly spread the tears and other secretions on the eye surface to keep it moist, since the cornea must be continuously moist. They keep the eyes from drying out when asleep. Moreover, the blink reflex protects the eye from foreign bodies.  Most mammals have eyelids similar to ours – but other types of animals don’t need eyelids. For example, fish don’t have true eyelids – they live in water that keeps their eyes moist. Fish can’t close their eyes – and neither can snakes. Some lizards have two eyelids – a thin, clear one to protect the open eye – and another pigmented eyelid to close the eye.

‘bat an eyelid’ – would mean to display a subtle emotional reaction, such as consternation, annoyance, sadness, joy, etc. Generally used in the negative to denote that the person in question did not display even a hint of an emotional response. “not bat an eyelid” would mean –  not to  display even a hint of an emotional response, such as consternation, annoyance, sadness, joy, etc.

 இமை - இயற்கை மனிதனுக்கும், விலங்குகளுக்கும் தந்த வர பிரசாதம்.  'நடிகைகள், மாடலிங் துறையில் இருப்பவர்கள்  போன்ற சிலர் செயற்கை இமை பொருத்தி வந்த காலம் மாறி, தற்போது கல்லூரி பெண்களிடமும் செயற்கை இமை பிரபலமாகி இருக்கிறது. இன்றைய பெண்கள் திருமண நிகழ்ச்சி, ஏனைய விழாக்கள்  மட்டுமில்லாமல் எந்த இடத்திலும் தனித்துவமாகவும், அழகாகவும் தெரியவேண்டும் என்பதற்காக  செயற்கை கண் இமைகளைப் பொருத்திக் கொள்ள விரும்புகின்றனர்.

புறநானூறு போர்க்களத்தை விவரிக்கிறது.  படைவீரர்கள் மாண்ட பின்னர் அரசன் சோழனும் சேரனும் மோதிக்கொண்டனர். இதற்கு அறப்போர் போர் என்று பெயர். இந்தப் போரில் இருவரும் போர்களத்திலேயே மாண்டனர். இரு பெரு வேந்தரின் குடைகளும் முரசுகளும் போர்களத்தில் சாய்ந்து கிடந்தன.  இப்படி வீரமரணம் பெற்றவர்கள்  -   வாடாத கற்பகப்பூ மாலையும், இமைகளைச் சிமிட்டாத பார்வையும், நறுமணமுள்ள உணவை உண்ணும் தேவர்கள் அனைவரும் மிக அருமையாகப் பெறக்கூடிய விருந்தினை நிரம்பப் பெற்றனர்!!  [இமையா நாட்டத்து நாற்ற உணவினோரும் ஆற்ற அரும் பெறல் உலகம்]

ஆழ்வார்கள் மயர்வற மதிநலம் அருளப்பெற்றவர்கள். .  அவர்கள் தங்கள் செயல் எண்ணம் வார்த்தை ஒவ்வொன்றிலும் எம்பெருமானையே பேணினவர்கள்.  ஆழ்வார் பாசுரத்திலே   "இமையாத கண்"  எனப்பெற்றது ஞானக்கண். அது திறந்தால் அஜ்ஞானவிருள் அகலுமாதலால் இருளகலநோக்கி என்றார் நம் பொய்கையாழ்வார். .

திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவம் ஆவணி மாதம் ஏழு நாட்கள் நடை பெறுகிறது. இந்த திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவத்தில் திருக்கோவிலில் யாகசாலை அமைத்து ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் உத்சவர் திருமுன்பு திருக்கோவில் பட்டாச்சார்யர்களால் யாக யக்னங்களும், வேதவிற்பன்னர்களால் வேத பாரயணமும்;  அத்யாபகர்கள் மற்றும் திவ்யபிரபந்த கோஷ்டியினரால் அருளிச்செயல் - திருவாய்மொழி  சேவை சாற்றுமுறையும் நடைபெறுகிறது. ஏழு நாட்களும் திருவீதி புறப்பாடு நடக்கிறது. கோவிலில் எல்லா எம்பெருமானுக்கும் பட்டு நூலிலான பல வண்ணங்கள் உடைய திருப்பவித்ர மாலை சாற்றப்படுகிறது. இன்று 2.9.2025  திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்திலே திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவத்திலே முதல் நாள்; நேற்று யாகசாலை அங்குரார்ப்பணம் நடைபெற்றது - நேற்று திருவாய்மொழி முதல் பத்து; இரண்டாம் பத்து பாசுரங்களும், இன்று திருவீதி புறப்பாடு முடிந்து மூன்று, நான்கு பத்து பாசுரங்களும் சேவிக்கப்படுகின்றன.  

 

பல்வேறு உத்சவங்களில் ஆவணி மாதம் நிகழும் பவித்ரோத்சவம் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்தது. பவித்ரம் என்ற சொல்லுக்கு 'சுத்தம் அதாவது பரிபூரணமான அப்பழுக்கு இல்லாத ஒன்று' என்று பொருள் கொள்ளலாம்.   இன்று மாலை நம் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள், பெரிய  அழகு மலர் மாலையுடன், கிரீடம்,  புதுப்பூணூல் சாற்றிக்கொண்டு அற்புத புறப்பாடு கண்டு அருளினார். இன்றைய படங்களிலே பெருமாள் பல வண்ணப் பட்டு மாலைகள் அணிந்து இருப்பதை சேவிக்கலாம். இவை பவித்ரம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுபவை.  

திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவம் மகிமை பற்றி படித்தது " எம்பெருமானிடம் உள்ள ஸாந்நித்யம் குறையாது இருப்பதற்கு ப்ராயச்சித்தமாக பல உத்ஸவங்கள் ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. அமுதுபடிகள் ஸமர்ப்பிப்பதில் ஏற்படும் லோபத்தை (குறைபாடுகளை) நீக்குதற்பொருட்டு ஜ்யேஷ்டாபிஷேகத்திற்கு அடுத்த நாள் “திருப்பாவாடை உத்சவம் ” கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. திருவாராதனம் ஸமர்ப்பிப்பதில் ஏற்படும் குறைபாடுகள் மற்றும் மந்திரலோபம் ஆகியவற்றை நீக்குவதற்காகப் “பவித்ரோத்ஸவம்” கொண்டாடப் படுகிறது. பெருமாள் திருமேனி முழுவதும் பவித்ரத்தை (புனிதத்தன்மையை) உண்டு பண்ணும் பவித்ரம் (முடிச்சுக்கள் கொண்ட தர்ப்பங்கள்) சாற்றப்படுகிறது. இதோ இங்கே பொய்கைப்பிரானின் அமுத வரிகள் -   ஆழ்வார் தம் முதல் திருவந்தாதி பாசுரத்தில் இருந்து : - 

இமையாத கண்ணால் இருள்   அகல நோக்கி,

அமையாப் பொறிபுலன்கள்  ஐந்தும் - நமையாமல்,

ஆகத்தணைப்பார்  அணைவரே, ஆயிரவாய்

நாகத்தணையான் நகர்.

இமையாத கண்ணால் -  அதாவது, ஞானத்தில்  மிகுந்த நெஞ்சு எனும் உட்கண்ணாலே அஜ்ஞாநமாகிய இருள்  நீங்கும்படியாக, தமது ஸ்வரூபத்தையும் பரப்ரஹ்ம ஸ்வரூபத்தையும்  உள்ளது, உள்ளபடியே  கண்டும் திருப்தி  பெற்று அடங்கியிராத பொறி புலன்கள் ஐந்தும் அவற்றிற்கு உரிய  பஞ்சவிஷயங்களையும், அடக்காமலே -  பூவுலகத்து மாதர்களின் தேஹத்தை அணைத்துக்கொண்டு கண்டபடி திரிபவர்கள், ஆயிரம்  தலைகளையும் வாய்களையும்  கொண்ட ஆதி சேஷனைப் படுக்கையாகவுடைய எம்பெருமானது நகரமாகிய ஸ்ரீவைகுண்டத்தை கிட்டப் பெறமாட்டார்கள் !  - எனவே உலகத்து ஆசைகளை ஒழித்து, எம்பெருமானிடம் தங்கள் பாசத்தை செலுத்துமாறு உரைக்கின்றார் பொய்கை ஆழ்வார்.

Remember - this day !! ~ Five years ago !!!!

How good is your memory ! – this day 5 years ago, brought relief and happiness to most of us.  Today,  September 1 is the 244^th  day of the year (245th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar; 121 days remain until the end of the year.

 

The Crisis of the Tumu Fortress, also known as the Tumu Crisis,  was a border conflict between the Oirat Mongols and the Ming dynasty. In July 1449, Esen Taishi, leader of the Oirat Mongols, launched a large-scale, three-pronged invasion of China. Despite having capable generals, Emperor Yingzong of Ming, under the influence of eunuch Wang Zhen who dominated the Ming court at the time, made the decision to personally lead his armies into battle against Esen. On  this day, 576 years ago,   Ming army suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the much weaker Mongols, and the emperor was captured.  This defeat was one of the biggest military failures in the Ming dynasty's three centuries of existence, and it was largely attributed to the poor leadership of their army. 

On this day in 1604,   Adi Granth, now known as Guru Granth Sahib, the holy scripture of Sikhs, was   first installed at Harmandir Sahib. 

The Guru Granth Sahib  is the central holy religious scripture of Sikhism, regarded by Sikhs as the final, sovereign and eternal Guru following the lineage of the ten human gurus of the religion. The Adi Granth   first rendition, was compiled by the fifth guru, Guru Arjan (1564–1606). Its compilation was completed on 29 August 1604 and first installed inside the Golden Temple in Amritsar on 1 September 1604.  Later, Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh guru, added hymns of Guru Tegh Bahadur to the Adi Granth and affirmed the text as his successor. This second rendition became known as the Guru Granth Sahib and is also sometimes referred to as the Adi Granth.   The text consists of 1,430 angs (pages) and 5,894 shabads (line compositions), which are poetically rendered and set to a rhythmic ancient north Indian classical form of music.  

The Golden Temple  is a gurdwara located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is the pre-eminent spiritual site of Sikhism. It is one of the holiest sites in Sikhism,  the land that became Amritsar and houses the Harimandir Sahib was chosen by Guru Amar Das, the third Guru of the Sikh tradition. It was then called Guru Da Chakk, after he had asked his disciple Ram Das to find land to start a new town with a man-made pool as its central point.  The Harmandir Sahib   also called the Durbār Sahib,  meaning  "sacred audience",  is well known as  Golden Temple for its gold leaf-covered sanctum centre. 

Coming to this day – 5 years ago !!  -  the year 2020 started on an ordinary note and sooner turned virulent – the Corona Virus to be named Covid 19 took  over the Globe and the whole World underwent  untold suffering !   there have been bad influences like Spanish flu, Economic crisis, World War and more .. ..  In that year, the monsoon season  arrived in South Asia and   ravaged large swathes of farming and urban areas, leaving millions who were already suffering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in financial ruin. More than 10 million people in India, Bangladesh, and Nepal had  been affected by monsoon floods in 2020, the worst flooding since 1998.  Bangladesh was badly affected with One-third of the Nation going  underwater after torrential rains caused 53 rivers to overflow in June, when Bangladesh was just beginning to recover from the devastation left by Cyclone Amphan in May. 

2020 was the year when the Globe almost stopped rotating and came to literal halt due to the Corona virus – on Mar 19, 2020, Nation heard with awe, the speech of Honble PM Shri Narendra Modiji who in an extremely balanced manner, explained the situation, threats, measures, expectations and plan of action as a Janata Curfew was announced on 22.3.2020 from 7 am to 9 pm. 

Then came those days of difficulty hard to fathom and beyond wild imaginations. In tune with the National Policy, Tamil Nadu State Govt announced curfew, effectively closing its border with neighbouring Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra.   Sadly, the Curfew was imposed, extended and continued for a few more months.  

Sept. 1, 2020 was a day of big relief to people after continuous lock-downs.   People were out on the streets.  On the first day of bus services resumption after lockdown relaxation, as many as 6,090 buses operated across the State.   While MTC resumed operation of about 2,400 buses, the six divisions of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporations (TNSTC)  operated the rest of the buses.   

That was a time when Corona had not been completely driven out and lurking fears remained at large.   As India entered the fourth phase of the post-pandemic ‘unlock’ process, the Indian Railways started more special passenger trains in high-demand sectors

 

Sept 1 2020 was an all-important day as after 160 days Temples reopened and devotees were allowed inside the Temples and could have darshan.  At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, the crowds were not exactly swelling – people stood in queue, were given a token (which was collected immediately after two / three steps by another person !) – those in the queue proceeded having darshan of Thirukachi Nambigal, Vedanthachar, Sri Ramanujar, Swami Manavala Mamunigal, Pillailogachar and -  could have darshan of moolavar Sri VenkataKrishnan from distance [from Dwarapalakas] and then had  darshan at Sri Vedavalli thayar, Sri Varadha Rajar, Sri Azhagiya Singar, Andal sannathies, proceeding further towards yagashala of Pavithrothsavam.

 

Temples in other parts too opened and devotees could have darshan.  Unimaginable that there could be a situation, when people had to remain at home, Temples too remained locked !!  -  Sept, 1, 2020 was thus a day indeed satisfying to devotees who had been silently praying Emperuman in thoughts only !!  - and this was a time when they could stand before the Lord, pray and focus on some kainkaryam too.
