Thiruvallikkeni Irapathu 7 - 2020 Perumal Muthangi ~ Nammalwar Nachiyar thirukolam

 Sri Parthasarathi Irapathu Uthsavam day 7 : Muthangi

~ Nammalwar Nachiyar thirukolam 2020

In this beautiful World, there have been times when humanity have been threatened by Wars and diseases.  The two World Wars wiped out millions of people, doing economic harm too – the human history is replete with wars and there have been dreaded plagues too .. Corona has been different – it has brought the whole World on its knees harming and threatening them of bleak future.  We faced a lockdown of global proportions, scarcity of resources, families away from each other for an indefinite period, and yet, humanity is restless, remorseless.

Pearls are attractive -  Natural Pearls form when an irritant - usually a parasite and not the proverbial grain of sand - works its way into an oyster, mussel, or clam. As a defense mechanism, a fluid is used to coat the irritant. Layer upon layer of this coating, called 'nacre', is deposited until a lustrous pearl is formed.  A cultured pearl undergoes the same process. The only difference is that the irritant is a surgically implanted bead or piece of shell called Mother of Pearl. These 'seeds' or 'nuclei' are most often formed from mussel shells. Quality cultured pearls require a sufficient amount of time - generally at least 3 years - for a thick layer of nacre to be deposited, resulting in a beautiful, gem-quality pearl. Lower-quality pearls have often been 'rushed' out of the oyster too quickly (sometimes a year or less) and have a too-thin coat of nacre.

Throughout most of human history, black pearls were  absent. White pearls, fished from the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean and later from the Caribbean, were the desirable norm for jewelry and adornments. From European royalty to Mughal emperors and modern day fashion designers, wearing white pearls conveyed status and the status quo. But in warm lagoons in the southern Pacific Ocean, 1 in 15,000 black-lipped oysters grew a black pearl. Spanish and Portuguese navigators visited the islands that are now French Polynesia in the 16th century. The British claimed Tahiti in 1767, the French a year later. Europeans questing for tropical commodities and missionaries questing for souls noticed islanders wearing the curious black gems. There was little overseas demand for the baubles until Tahiti became a French protectorate in 1843, and black pearls reached French markets. Rarer than white pearls, they caught the fancy of Empress Eugénie, and an exclusive trend was born. They were the photo negatives of white pearls — chic, mysterious and exotic, just like the native people on these islands in the French imagination.

What a beauty  !  Wonder which Thayar is this ? ….  Emperuman in Archavatharam provides darshan to devotees ~ we need not even go to the temple, Swami Himself would come on the streets and provide us glorious darshan.  That is the purpose and advantage of divyadesa sthala vasam.. .. on day 7 of Irapathu Uthsavam  Swami Nammalwar is in Nachiyar thirukolam, displaying Parankusa nayika bhavam in her
Thiruvaimozhi verses.

On day 7 of Irapathu Uthsavam – it is  very grand Muthangi for Sri Parthasarathi at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam.

Nammazhvar cannot bear separation from Lord Narayana and he imagines himself in the role of the Lord’s lover and in this role he is Parankusa Nayaki. He also plays the role of the pining girl’s mother and her friend.  As Parankusa Nayaki, Nammazhvar sends messages to the Lord through birds.  In the pangs of love, Parankusa nayaki could not wait even for a short time, so she sends forth another batch of birds. She tells the parrots to convey to the Lord, that she is inconsolable.

31.12. 2020 was day 7 of Irapathu Uthsam -  being day 7,    Sri Parthasarathi Swami adorned Muthangi.  It is eternal bliss, indeed a feast to the eyes to have darshan of Paripuranan wearing a dress beautifully woven with pearls still unable to match the blemishless beauty of Perumal.  Swami Nammalwar praises the Lord at Thiruvarangam,  She falls into thought, faints and recovers;

Here are some photos taken during   yesteryears and one photo taken (mobile photo) inside the temple.   To me, Jan 1 is just another day – but if thoughts and belief is that it heralds a new beginning and heralds hopeful new phase of people lives becoming peaceful without fears of Covid, let us welcome it with open heart.
