Maha
samprokshanam is a great event. One
would be blessed to be there at that muhurtham, have darshan of Emperuman,
witness the holy water sprinkled and be present near the yagasalai (adiyen did
not have any of this but am posting one on samprokshanam at Sri Vanamamalai
divyadesam motivated by the great photos shared by my friend Sri
Sundarakrishnan swami)

June 2018 – was a great day for those thousands of devotees from various parts
of the country who could be present at the maha samprokshanam of Nanguneri Sri
Vanamamalai Perumal Temple, that was
conducted after a gap of 110 years in a grand manner on Friday. Led by Madhurakavi Vanamamalai Ramanuja Seer,
the yagasala for the maha samprokshanam commenced on June 23 even as
‘paaraayanam’ was going on continuously at various points of the shrine. After
the end of the 9th yagasala puja, the maha samprokshanam was performed
simultaneously to rajagopuram and the vimanas of Sri Perumal, thaayar and
Andal.
Sri
Vaishnavam dates back to centuries –
following glorious principles handed
over to us through many generations by our Acharyars which include Sri
Ramanujar and Sri Manavalamanunigal. Of
the Divyadesams, the one near Thirunelveli,
called ‘Vanamamalai’ [Sri
Varamangai] is of great significance
– It is
the seat, where the Mutt of
Thennacharyar Sampradhayam is located
following our Greatest Acharyar – Sri Varavara Muni ‘Swami Manavala
Maamunigal’.
ஆழ்வார்களால்
மங்களாசாசனம் செய்யப் பெற்ற ஒரு அற்புத தளம் நம் வானமாமலை. தெய்வநாயகன் நாரணன் திரிவிக்கிரமன் அடியிணைமிசை, (இங்குள்ள தோதாத்திரி நாதனுடைய உபய பாதங்களிலே),
வணங்கி அவற்றை ஏற்றி எப்போதும் பாட வல்லவர்கள், ஸ்ரீ வைகுண்டத்தில் இருக்கின்ற நித்ய
ஸூரிகளுக்கு ஆராவமுதமாயிருப்பர்கள், என சுவாமி நம்மாழ்வார் அருளிச்செய்த தலமிது !
Nanguneri
is a town in Tirunelveli district about
30kms South of Tirunelveli, off the Nagercoil Highway and about 10kms
from Thiru Kurungudi Divya Desam having Sri Vaanamamalai Thothadri Nathan Thirukovil.
In centuries gone by, this place was identified as being 1 yojana South
of Tamaraibarani. The Moolavar at this
Divyadesam is Totadrinathan, in seated
posture; Thayar is Sireevaramangaittaayaar. The temple has a large five-tiered gopuram
(gateway tower) and a large temple compound having two prakarams. The
presiding deity, Vanamamalai Perumal is seen seated on the Adisesha, Sridevi
and Bhoodevi, the two consorts of Perumal are seen on either sides of the
presiding deity. There is an attractive festival
hall in the second precinct in the temple facing South that has sculpted
pillars indicating various legends of the Puranas. The temple dating back to thousands of years
was built by the Pandyas, with later
contributions from Vijayanagar kings and Madurai Nayaks. The temple covers an
area of 5 acres and has a five-tiered temple tower.
The
temple is one of the eight Sywayambu Kshetrams. The temple has many inscriptions, the earliest
of which is from 1236 CE. One added
specialty of this Divya Desam is the daily oil abhishekam for the Moolavar
deity. The oil, which has rich medicinal values helping cure illness, is then
deposited into the Oil Well inside the temple. Another feature at this temple
is the presence inside the sanctum of Urvasi and Thilothama, who undertook
penance at Thothadri seeking liberation from re-birth, in a posture of fanning
the Lord.

விமானத்தில் பூமாதேவிக்கு காட்சி அளித்த திருத்தலம் : திருவரமங்கை, திருவானமாமலை, தோதாத்திரிபுரம். பெருமானுக்காகவே வரமங்கையாக வளர்ந்த ஸ்ரீ மஹாலக்ஷ்மி
திருக்கல்யாணம் புரிந்துகொண்டதால் இத்தலம் ஸ்ரீவரமங்கை - நம்மாழ்வாரும் இத்தலத்தை சிரீவரமங்கை
எனவே மங்களாசாசனம்.
நாங்குநேரி,
தோத்தாத்ரி, உரோமசேத்திரம், ஸ்ரீவரமங்கை (சீரிவரமங்கல நகர்), நாகணை சேரி என்றெல்லாம்
அழைக்கப்படும் இத்தலம் திருநெல்வேலி மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. மூலவர்: ஸ்ரீ தோத்தாத்திரிநாதன்; உற்சவர்:
தெய்வநாயகப் பெருமான்; தாயார்: ஸ்ரீதேவி, பூமிதேவி; உற்சவர் தாயார்: ஸ்ரீவரமங்கை
தாயார். தல விருட்சம்: மாமரம்; தீர்த்தம்: சேற்றுத்தாமரை தீர்த்தம் ; பிரத்யட்சம்: உரோம(ரிஷி) முனிவர்; மங்களாசாசனம்:
சுவாமி நம்மாழ்வார்
திருவரமங்கை
என்னும் வானமாமலை என்பது 108 வைணவத் திருத்தலங்களில் முக்கியமான ஒரு திவ்யதேசம். இத்தலம் திருநெல்வேலியிலிருந்து திருக்குறுங்குடி
செல்லும் சாலையில் அமைந்துள்ளது. பிரம்மாண்ட
புராணம், ஸ்கந்த புராணம், நரசிம்ம புராணம் போன்றவற்றில் இத்தல மகிமை அறியப்படுகிறது. ஸ்ரீவரமங்கையாக திருமகள் இவ்விடத்தில்
வந்து வளர்ந்து பிறகு எம்பெருமானை மணந்து கொண்டதால் ஸ்ரீவரமங்கை (சீரிவரமங்கல நகர்)
எனவும், ஆதிசேடன் இங்கு தவமியற்றி திருமாலுக்கு அணையாக இருக்கும் பேறு பெற்றதால் நாகணை
சேரி எனவும், மரங்கள் நிறைந்த வனமும் மலையும் சூழ்ந்த இடமாதலின் வானமாமலை எனவும் இங்குள்ள
திருக்குளத்தை நான்கு ஏரிகளாக வெட்டியதால் நான்கு + ஏரி= நான்குநேரிஎனவும், அந்த நான்கு
ஏரிகளின் கூர்மையான முனைகள் சந்திக்கும் மையப் பகுதியில் அமைந்ததால் நான் + கூர் +
நேரி என்பது காலப்போக்கில் நாங்குநேரி எனவும் வழங்கப்படுவதாக அறிகிறோம்.
இங்குள்ள
எம்பெருமானுக்கு தினமும் தைல திருமஞ்சனம்.
நல்லெண்ணையுடன் சந்தனக்காப்பு சேர்ந்து.
உத்சவ காலத்திலே ஒரு கோட்டை எனும் 112 படி தைலக்காப்பு பிரசித்தம். இந்த அற்புத தைலம் தினமும் திருக்கோவிலில்
உள்ள கிணற்றில் சேர்க்கப்பெறுகிறது. இந்த நாழிக்கிணற்றில் உள்ள அற்புத தைலம், நோய்களை
தீர்க்க வல்லது என அகத்தியர் தமது மருத்துவக்குறிப்பில் கூறியுள்ளார். இத்தலத்தில்
ஸ்ரீ சடகோபனிலே (ஸ்ரீ சடாரியில்) நம்மாழ்வாரின் அழகு திருஉருவம் பொறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
VanamAmalai
mutt, the seat of our sampradhayam was
established by Sri PonnadikkAl
Jeeyar after Sri Manavala
Mamunigal. Our Mutts are places of
spiritual centres where ancient knowledge
thrives and blossoms through
regular discourses and education by learned scholars. This dates back to 1400s and from Ponnadikkal
Jeeyar, the lineage has passed on through 30 Jeeyars ~ Sri Madhurakavi Vanamamalai Jeeyar is the
present pontiff. He is a great scholar
in our Sampradhayam and has been serving the mutt for decades.
ஆறெனக்கு நின் பாதமே சரணாகத் தந்தொழிந்தாய், உனக்கோர்
கைம்மாறு நானொன்றிலேன்
எனதாவியுமுனதே,*
சேருகொள்கரும்பும் பெருஞ் செந்நெல்லும் மலிதண் சிரீவர மங்கை*
நாறு பூந்தண் துழாய் முடி யாய்!
தெய்வ நாயகனே!
சேற்று நிலங்களிலே வளர்கின்ற
கரும்புகளும், பெரிய செந்நெற் பயிர்களும், மலிந்திருக்கப் பெற்ற குளிர்ந்த சிரீவரமங்கை
எனும் வானமாமலைப் பதியிலே (எழுந்தருளியிருக்கிற) பரிமளம் மிக்க திருத்துழாய் மாலையணிந்த
திருமுடியையுடையவனே!, தெய்நாயகப் பெருமானே! அடியேனுக்கு உபாயமோவென்றால் உன் திருவடிகளே
உபாயமாக அநுக்ரஹித்து விட்டாய்; இந்த மஹோபகாரத்திற்கு உன்னிடத்தில்
ஒரு பிரதியபகாரமு முடையேனல்லேன்; என்னுடைய ஆத்மாவும் ஏற்கனவே உன்னுடையதாயிரா
நின்றது. உன்னிடத்தில் சரண் புகுந்த எனக்கு
எந்த குறையும் இல்லை என ஆனந்தப்படுகிறார் சுவாமி நம்மாழ்வார்.

Nammalwar in his Thiruvaimozhi hails this Emperuman saying – Oh Lord celestial,
wearing a cool fragrant Tulasi wreath! ~ the Lord residing in the place where
sugarcane and paddy grow in abundance known as Srivaramangala-nagar - I always look to you and You have given me your feet as my sole refuge
and path. I have nothing to give in
return, - my soul too is yours! My life is too blissful as I have no worries at
all .. ..
