Thirumalaiyil Thiruvengadam Udaiyan Purappadu

the entrance to the holy Temple

It is the holiest of the shrines for all of us ~ every visit rejuvenates us more and even before we descend the hills, we start thinking of coming again.  It is Thirumala Tirupathi – the abode of Lord Srinivasa.  The most auspicious and sanctified temple of Sri Venkateswarais located on the 7th peak – Venkatachaladri  of Tirupathi Hill and here Lord Srinivasa the most benevolent, munificent, generous giver of all boons to His bakthas.  Crores of people visit this temple and vie to offer to the Lord things in every possible form. The Lord’s Presidency – the temple of Sri Venkateswara has acquired unique sanctity in Indian religious lore. The Sastras, Puranas, Sthala Mahatyams and Alwar hymns unequivocally declare that, in the Kali Yuga, one can attain mukti, by worshipping Venkata Nayaka or Sri Venkateswara.

Lakhs of devotees of all ages, from all over the Country and from other parts of the World throng to the hills, by walk, by vehicles of various hues and wait in the queue for hours to have a glimpse of the Lord.   Even today, Tirumala maintains its glorious natural heritage, on the way you find green forestry, water flowing along the ridges of mountains and more… till a few decades ago, the path to Tirumala was difficult – yet our Acharyas did great kainkaryam in reaching the Holy hill, spending time in service to the Lord.

Sri Nammazhwar in Thiruvaimozhi [3rd Thiruvaimozhi – 3rd pathu] sings :

குன்றம் ஏந்திக் குளிர்மழை காத்தவன்,
அன்று ஞாலம் அளந்த பிரான், பரன்
சென்று சேர்  திருவேங்கட மாமலை,
ஒன்றுமே தொழ நம்வினை ஓயுமே.

He recalls the glory of that Lord who once lifted Govardhana Giri to protect the subjects from the [stone] rain and who in one of his Avatars scaled the Universe ~ when we reach Him at Tirumala and pray unto Him all our [wrongful] karma will get wiped away.

Had the fortune of worshipping Lord Srinivasa at Tirumala on 3rd Mar 2013 and some photos of Lord Srinivasar [Uthsavar] taken by me are here.

With regards – Adiyen Srinivasa dhasan.
