30.11.2020 was Rohini in the month of Karthigai and
Sarrumurai vaibhavam of Sri Thiruppanazhwar. The day being
pournami, was Thirukarthigai too at
Thiruvallikkeni and other divyadesams.
The day brought in loads of
happiness for residents of Thiruvallikkeni ~ Rohini nakshathiram comes a day
after Karthigai. In most years,
Karthigai celebrations would fall on Karthigaiyil Karthigai – anadhyayanam
would start and there would be no sarrumurai purappadu for
Thiruppanazhwar. This year, it was not
so. Yet Corona could have cast its evil
spell. The temple was closed from
20.3.2020 and there have not been veethi purappadus at all – Perumal has not
stepped out of the mahadwaram.
On this glorious day, Sri
Parthasarathi Emperuman in His resplendent splendour bedecked with ornaments
came out and Thiruppanar preceded Him.
He came to the 36 pillared mantap, presented maryathai for Swami
Nammalwar and then lit chokkapanai. Iramanusa
noorranthathi was rendered by Divyaprabandha goshti – so what a great day as
thousands had great darshan of Emperuman.

கங்கையில் புனிதமாய
காவிரி நடுவுபாட்டு;
பொங்கு நீர் பரந்து
பாயும் பூம்பொழில் அரங்கம்
திருப்பாணாழ்வார், ஸ்ரீரங்கம் பெரியபெருமாளைப் பாதாதிகேசம் வருணிக்கும் "அமலனாதிபிரான்' என்ற அற்புத பிரபந்தத்தை நமக்கு அருளியவர். சோழ சாம்ராஜ்ஜியத்தின் தலைநகரமாகிய உறையூரில் நெற்பயிர்கள் நிறைந்த வயலில் அவதரித்தவர். முனிவாஹனர் என்று ப்ரஸித்தி பெற்ற இவர் பாணர் என்ற இசை மரபு குலத்தில் பிறந்தவர். காவிரிக் கரையில் இருந்தே தனது பக்தியை வீணை வாசிப்பாக வெளிப்படுத்தி பின்னர் எம்பெருமானை நன்கு சேவித்து அவருடன் கலந்தவர். இவர் பெருமாளின் ஸ்ரீவத்ஸம் எனும் மருவின் அம்சம்.
River
Cauvery is considered most sacred ~ in the words of Thondaradipodi Azhwar –
‘more sacred than the Sacred Ganges’…. ~ and in that beautiful island formed by
Cauvery [Kaveri and Kollidam] reclines Lord Ranganathar. Azhwars, many sages
and saints have left a rich treasure for posterity, in the form of classics
containing all information about God and how He is ready to respond to the
devotees' sincere pleas. The sacred Cauvery flowing across enriched all
areas on its banks ~ the Chozha empire flourished due to that.
Historically, Uraiyur [also spelt Woraiyoor] was the capital of the
Empire at some point time – it had big palatial buildings and
bigger choultries feeding the poor all the time. This is the birth
place (thiruvavathara sthalam of Thiruppan Alwar)
Generally, Karthigai
would fall on ‘karthigai nakshathiram’ – after which there would be no
purappadu, so there would be years whence there would be no sarrumurai
purappadu of Thiruppanazhwar. This year Thirukarthigai Deepa uthsavam as also
Thiruppanar sarrumurai were celebrated on 30.11.2020 when there was purappadu
of Perumal and Alwar upto the mantapam and chokkapanai too was lit.
At
Uraiyur divyadesam, the presiding deity is
Azhagiya Manavaalan in standing posture possessing ‘Conch [Thiruvazhi]
and Chakra in His hands. The Thayar is Kamalavalli Nachiyar ~ who is in
the main sannathi itself alongwith Perumal. There are
separate sannathies for Swami Nammalwar; Sri Ramanujar and ThiruPanazhvaar.
Azhwar
totally immersed with bakthi, refers to the Lord as Vimalan, glorifying His
blemishlessness and magnanimity – bowled over by the beauty of Emperuman, he
describes that Azhagiya Manavalan has taken over his heart. Here is
one of his immortal verses:
ஆலமாமரத்தின் இலைமேல்
ஒரு பாலகனாய்
ஞாலமேழும் உண்டான்
அரங்கத்தரவின் அணையான்
கோலமாமணியாரமும்
முத்துத்தாமமும் முடிவில்லதோரெழில்
நீலமேனி
ஐயோ! நிறை கொண்டதென் நெஞ்சினையே.
மரங்களில் பெரிதான ஆலமரத்தினுடைய இலைமேல் (இலை எவ்வாறாயினும் சிறியதே ! ~ உதாரணத்துக்கு வாழை இலை ஆல இலையை விட பன்மடங்கு பெரிது) .. .. அந்த சிறிய இலையிலே ஒரு சிறு பிள்ளையாகி பள்ளிகொண்டவனும், ஏழுலகங்களையும் திருவயிற்றிலேவைத்து நோக்கினவனும், திருவரங்கம் எனும் திருக்கோவிலிலே, திருவனந்தாழ்வானாகிற திருப்பள்ளியின்மீது சாய்ந்தருள்பவனுமான ஸ்ரீரங்கநாதனுடைய அழகிய சிறந்த இரத்தினங்களாற் செய்யப்பட்ட ஹாரமும், முத்துவடமும் (ஆகிய இவை போன்ற பல்லாயிரம் திருவாபரணங்கள்) அணிந்த, எல்லைகாண முடியாமல் அபரிமிதமாக விளங்கா நிற்கப் பெற்றதும் ஒப்பற்ற அழகையுடையதும், கருநெய்தல் மலர் போன்றதுமான திருமேனியானது, எனது நெஞ்சினை கொள்ளை கொண்டு போயிற்று; ஐயோ! இதற்கென் செய்வேன்? என்கிறார். என் எண்ணம் அனைத்துமே அந்த அழகிய மணவாளனிடத்திலேயே மையல் கொண்டுள்ளது என்கிறார் நம் திருப்பாணர்.
