Today 31^st Aug 2021 – 15^th day of Avani is a day of great significance -   Sri Jayanthi is being celebrated grandly  at Thiruvarangam, Thiruvallikkeni and many other divyadesams.. ..  at  every home -  in the manner of Lord Krishna being born there  – devotees are elated.  We, the followers of the lotus feet of Sri Krishna,  paint the footsteps of little Krishna – exhibiting His walking inside our home,  do Thirumanjanam for the vigraha at home, make Him adorn new  clothes; offer Him choicest dishes made with love at home. We also offer Him variety of fruits including blue jamuns.

 

தூசி மாமண்டூர் நர்த்தன கண்ணன்

Bhagwan Krishna’s birth variously known as Gokulashtami, Krishna Jayanthi and more is often referred to in the South,  as Sri Jayanthi.  There is a notion that ‘Jayanthi’ refers to the birth date and thereby many days are known as  Jayanthis !!! – but only Lord Krishna’s birthday is SreeJayanthi.  

பெரியாழ்வார் கண்ணன் பிறந்தது முதல் ஒவ்வொரு பருவத்தையும் கொண்டாடி மகிழ்கிறார். ஓரிடத்தில் "செந்நெல் அரிசி சிறு பருப்புச் செய்த அக்காரம் நறுநெய் பாலால்" என -  செந்நெல்லரிசியும், சிறு பயற்றம்பருப்பும்; காய்ச்சித்திரட்டி நன்றாகச் செய்த அக்காரம் என்கிற கருப்புக்கட்டியும்;  மணம் மிக்க நெய்யும்;  பால் ஆகிய இவற்றாலேயும் ("கன்னலிலட்டுவத்தோடு சீடை காரெள்ளினுண்டை")  எனவும் அப்பம் கலந்த சிற்றுண்டி அக்காரம் பாலில் கலந்து என்பதாகவும் சிறந்த சிற்றுண்டிகளை பெருமாளுக்கு சமர்ப்பிக்கிறார்.  தவிர பெருமாளுக்கு சிறந்த பழங்கள் பல சமர்ப்பிக்கப்படுகின்றன. இவற்றுள் நாவற்பழமும் சிறப்பிடம் பெறுகிறது. 

திருவல்லிக்கேணி கண்ணன் சேஷ வாகன புறப்பாடு

"ஜெயந்தி" என்பது ஒரு முகூர்த்தம். அஷ்டமியும் நவமியும் சேரும்; ரோஹிணி நக்ஷத்திரத்தில்  [மிருகசீர்ஷம் வரும் சமயம்] உள்ள ஒரு சிறப்பான 'ஜெயந்தி' என்கிற முஹூர்த்ததில் ஸ்ரீகிருஷ்ணர் வடமதுரையில் அவதரித்தார்.  கண்ணன் பிறந்த நாள் என்பதால் அதற்கு சிறப்பு சேர்க்கும் விதமாக 'ஸ்ரீ ஜெயந்தி' ஆனது. எனவே எப்படி 'ஸ்ரீராமநவமி' என்பது ஸ்ரீராமர் அவதரித்த நந்நாள் என கொண்டாடுகிறோமோ அதே போல ஸ்ரீகிருஷ்ணர் பிறந்தநாள் 'கோகுலாஷ்டமி, ஸ்ரீ கிருஷ்ண ஜெயந்தி, ஸ்ரீ ஜெயந்தி'.  மற்றைய பிறந்த நாள்களை 'ஜெயந்தி' என கொண்டாடுதல் தகா!   [முனைவர் ம அ வேங்கட கிருஷ்ணன் சுவாமி சொல்லக் கேட்டது]  

வேதாந்தவாசிரியர் தம்முடைய 'கோபால விம்சதியில் ' கண்ணனை ஏத்தும் பொழுது, "ஜயந்தீ ஸம்பவம் தாம வைஜயந்தீ விபூஷணம் " என்றருளுகிறார்.  ஸ்ரீஜயந்தீ நன்னாளில் பிறந்தவன் என்று கொண்டாடுகின்றார்.  ஜயந்தீ = ரோஹிணீ ஸஹித ச்ராவண மாஸ க்ருஷ்ணாஷ்டமீ , அஷ்டமீ  ரோஹிணீயுக்தா ஜயந்தீதி அபிதீயதே என்றபடி ,  ச்ராவண மாஸத்தில் க்ருஷ்ண பக்ஷ அஷ்டமீ திதி மற்றும் ரோஹிணீ நட்சத்திரத்துடன் கூடிய நன்னாளுக்கே " ஜயந்தீ " என்று பெயர் !  

ஜயம் புண்யம் ச தநுதே ஜயந்தீம் தேந தாம் விது:

ஜயத்தையும் ( வெற்றியையும் ) புண்ணியத்தையும் தரவல்ல நன்னாளாம் இது. கண்ணன் பிறப்பதற்காகவே வெற்றியைப் பரிசளிப்பதாகவும் புண்ணியமான நாளாகவும் இந்நாள் அமைந்ததாம். [அக்காரக்கனி தி.அ.ஸ்ரீநிதி ஸ்வாமி  சொல்லக்கேட்டது.]

ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் வெண்ணைத்தாழிக் கண்ணன் திருக்கோலம்.

Mathura is the holy place where Lord Krishna was born…. ~ the centre of what is fondly referred as Braj bhoomi.  Remember Lord was born in a prison cell at Mathura, the capital of   Surasena kingdom ruled by Kamsa, the maternal uncle of the Lord.  This is a very old place dating back to Ramayana days.  According to the Archeologists, the Ikshwaku prince Shatrughna slayed a demon called Lavanasura and claimed this  land.  By some accounts this place was a densely wooded Madhuvan.   This place was closely associated with history too.  Centuries later,  Mathura was one of the capitals of Kushan dynasty. Megasthenes, writing in the early 3rd century BCE, mentions Mathura as a great city.

The land of Braj is full of sacred places, reverred on account of their being the reputed haunts and homes of Krishna. The pilgrims can never rest until they have made the round of these holy shrines, and hence, especially upon the occasion of Krishna's birthday, called JanmAshtami, falling in the month Bhadon, corresponding with our August-September, in the midst of the rainy season, they may be found by the thousands making the Ban Jathra, or perambulation of Braj. The distance travelled is popularly said to be eighty-four kos, or one hundred and sixty-eight miles, with Mathura as the central point in the circle.  The pilgrims naturally start from the holiest place in the holy city of Mathura, namely, Visrant Ghat. The first halting place is Mahaban, some four or five miles southwest of Mathura, in the present village of Maholi, lying back from the river about the same distance. This is the reputed place, as has been before related, where Rama's brother, Satrughna, founded the city of Madhupura, which Hindu classic literature from the earliest period identifies with Mathura.    His Janmasthan temple, what we see and worship is nothing magnificent !  - let us remember that Mathura Temple, abode of Lord Krishna was destroyed by none other than the murdering and marauding "Aurangzeb" and the prison cell where Lord was born is still under occupation.

At the place where Lord Krishna was born now exists a Temple popularly known as ‘Janmasthan temple’  -  Kesava Deo Temple considered most sacred for all Hindus.  There is a huge complex comprising of a small temple, the Janmasthan, gallery, a huge temple later built by Dalmiyas – the prison cell – the exact place where Lord Krishna was born is under a doom – all heavily fortified and guarded these days.  At the Janmasthan is the most beautiful  Kehsav Dev(Krishna), the worshipped  deity of this temple. According to traditions the original deity was installed by the  great-grandson of Krishna.  This temple is considered a monument of Gupta period (320 to 550 CE)which was destroyed in 1661 CE by Aurangzeb. Vrindavan is the twin town of Mathura and there are other holy places of Gokulam and Govardhana giri – all in the vicinity.  

In 1944, Madan Mohan Malviya was distressed at plight of the site and arranged for purchase of land from Raja Krishna Das of Benaras; then  Jugal Kishore Birla of Birla group took  the leading role to fulfill the wishes of Malviyaji and formed a private trust in 1951 to which the rights of land were later transferred. Jaidayal Dalmia of Dalmia Group was another leading personality, who took untiring efforts and the temple was finally constructed over the site. The trust which runs the temple has a glorious list of Trustees besides Birla and Dalmia family members.  Though this modern temple attracts pilgrims, the original place of birth lies within the complex -  a small room  of  a prison cell, where it is  fully believed that Lord Krishna was born.  There is a mosque overlooking this place. 

பக்தர்களை உய்விப்பதற்க்காக இவ்வுலகத்தில் அவதரித்து,  வாழ்ந்து, நாம் அறிவுபெற நல்லமுதமாம் 'ஸ்ரீபகவத்கீதையை' அருளிய கண்ணபிரானின் திருவடிகளைபற்றியவருக்கு, நிர்ஹேதுக  க்ருபை  உடையவனான எம்பெருமான் எல்லாநலன்களையும் தானேஅளித்து,  நம்மை பாதுகாப்பார்.

தண்ணன் தாமரை கண்ணனே !  கண்ணா !  வேய்ங்குழல் ஊதும் ஆயனே ! எங்கள் போரேறே - இவ்வுலகத்தோர் அனைவரையும் காப்பீராக !  -  திருமயிலை மாதவப்பெருமாள் அழகு திருக்கோலம் இன்று

 

கிருஷ்ணனின் புகழ் கீதம் பாடு .. .. இல்லங்களில் அவன்  திருப்பாதம் வரைந்து, அலங்கரித்து, கண்ணனது பிறப்பை கொண்டாடுவோம்.  இந்த திருநாட்டிலே - சந்தனம்  எங்கள் நாட்டின் புழுதி - சிறுமியர் எல்லாம் ராதையின் வடிவம் !! சிறுவர் அனைவரும் கிருட்டிணனே !!  .. .. 

குழந்தைகளுக்கு 'கண்ணன், ராதை' வேடம் இட்டால் மட்டும் போதாது - அவர்களுக்கு கண்ணபிரானின் மகிமையையும் - அவர் வாழ்ந்த லட்சிய வாழ்வையும், அவர் நமக்கு தந்த நல் உபதேசமாம் பகவத்கீதையையும், நாம் கடைபிடிக்க வேண்டிய நல் ஒழுக்கங்களையும் அவர்களுக்கு கற்று தருதல் நம் கடமை.

ஜந்மாஷ்டமீ / ஸ்ரீஜயந்தீ அன்று வீட்டுக் குழந்தைகளை, கண்ணனைப் போல நன்கு

அலங்கரித்து ஒப்பனைகள் செய்து மகிழ்வெய்துங்கள். அவை செய்யத்தக்கனவே..

மறுப்பாரில்லை.. ஆனால்.. சில விஷயங்களை குழந்தைகளுக்குச் சொல்ல மறவாதீர்கள்.

பிள்ளாய் ! குழலும் குரவைக் கூத்தும் ( ஆட்டமும் பாட்டமும் ) மட்டுமே கண்ணனின் அடையாளங்கள் என்றெண்ணி விடாதே !   அவன் ஏழை ஏதலன் கீழ்மகன் போன்றோருக்கும் சுலபன். குசேலனிடமும் பழைய நட்பை மறவாமல் அதனைப் பேணிப் போற்றிய பெம்மான் அவன்.. அதுவே அவன் அடையாளம். அதனைக் கற்க வேண்டியதன் அவசியத்தை குழந்தைகளுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள்.

கீதையை உபதேசித்து ஜகத்குரு என்று போற்றப்படுகின்றவன் அவன். நெறியெல்லாம் எடுத்துரைத்தவன் அவன். குழந்தைகளும் அவனைப் போல் அறிவாளியாதல் முக்கியம்.

தோலாத பெருவீரன் அவன். கம்ஸ சாணூராதிகளை அநாயாஸமாக வென்ற திறலுடையவன் அவன். குழந்தைகளும் அவனைப் போல் வீரத்திற் சிறந்தவர்களாதல் முக்கியம்.

பெருமான் ஸர்வஜ்ஞன் .. அவன் அறிவோடே ஒப்பிட்டால் மொத்த ப்ரஹ்மாண்டத்தின் அறிவையும் சேர்த்தாலும்; அவை அணு மாத்ரமென்னவும் போகாது !

குழந்தைகளுக்கு இவற்றைச் சொல்லுங்கள்.  அவனைப் போல் குழந்தைகளும் நிறை ஞான மூர்த்திகளாக ஆகட்டும்.

வாழ்வில் நமக்கு சில சமயங்களில் [சிலருக்கு பலசமயங்களில் !]  கோவம் அதிகமாக வருகிறது - அவ்வாறு கோபம் வயப்படும்போது நாம் தவறான எண்ணங்களால் பாதிக்கப்படுகிறோம்; தவறான வார்த்தைகளை பேசுகிறோம்.  அமைதியாக வாழ, நாம் நமது உணவு முறையையும் சரிபடுத்துதல்  அவசியம்.

ஸ்ரீவைணவம் ஒரு எளிய மார்க்கம்.  நாம் வாழ்வின் காரணமே நம் எம்பெருமான்.  நம் செய்யவேண்டியது - அவ்வெம்பெருமானையே நினைத்து அவனுக்கே கைங்கர்யங்கள் செய்து, அவன் பெயரை எப்போதும் நாத்தன்னால் நவில உரைத்து, அவன் தாள்களை பற்றி அவனிடம் சேர்வதே ! .. ..   எம்பெருமானை வாழ்த்தப் பெறுவதொரு நாள் உண்டானால், கீழ்க்கழிந்த காலமும் மேல்வருங்காலமும் எல்லாம் நன்னாளாய் விடுமென்கிறார் நம் தமிழ் தலைவன் பேயாழ்வார். 

நாம் அமைதியாக வாழ, கோவமற்ற சரியான வார்த்தைகள் பேச நம் உணவும் எண்ணங்களும் சுத்தமாக இருத்தல் அவசியம்.  தூக்கம், விழிப்பு, ஓட்டம், ஓய்வு, வளர்ச்சி, வளர்சிதை மாற்றங்கள் போன்ற அதிமுக்கிய நிகழ்வுகள் அனைத்தும் நம் உடலின் 'சர்காடியன் ரிதம்' என்ற உடல் இசைவுக்கு ஏற்றபடிதான் அமைகின்றன. மனிதன் தோன்றும்போதே அவனுடன் சத்வ (சாத்விகம்), ரஜோ (ராஜச) தமோ (தாமச) என்ற முக்குணங்களும் தோன்றுகின்றனவாம்.  சாத்விகம் என்ற சத்வ குணம் பரிசுத்தமானது. இறைமை, ஒழுக்க நெறி, ஞானம், போன்றவற்றின் மீது பற்றுதலை உண்டாக்குவது. ரஜோகுணம் என்ற ராஜச குணம், இறுமாப்பு மற்றும் பேராசையால் ஏற்படும் நிலை. தமோகுணம் என்ற தாமச குணமோ, ஞானமில்லாத சூனிய நிலையாகும்.

இவற்றுக்குள் கோபதாபங்கள், காம மோகங்கள் இல்லாமல் நற்சிந்தனைகளுடன் இருக்கும்  சாத்விக நிலைதான் மனிதனுக்கு நல்லது.    மனிதனின் இவ்வாழ்வுக்கும், மறுவாழ்வுக்கும் அத்தியாவசியமான சத்வ குணம் உறங்க ஆரம்பித்தால், ரஜோ குணமும் தமோ குணமும் உச்சம் பெற்றுவிடும். அதே சத்வ குணம் விழிப்படைந்துவிட்டால் ரஜோ குணமும், தமோ குணமும் தாம் இருக்குமிடம் தெரியாமல் சத்வ குணத்துடன் ஐக்கியமாகிவிடும். 

“ஆஹார சுத்தெள ஸத்வ சுத்தி'' - ஒருவனது ஆஹாரமானது தூய்மையானதாக இருந்தால் அவனது ஸத்வம் (உடலும் உள்ளமும்) தூய்மையாக இருக்கும் என்று வேத சாஸ்திரங்கள் கூறுகின்றன. உணவு சமைப்பவரின் மனநிலையும், உணர்வுகளும் கூட உணவைப் பாதிக்கும். அசுத்தமான பழக்க வழங்கங்களையும் அசுத்தமான தீய உணர்வுகள், எண்ணங்கள் மற்றும் மனநிலை கொண்டோரால், தயாரிக்கப்பட்ட உணவை உண்ணும் பக்தர்கள், சமைப்பவரின் மனநிலையால் பாதிக்கப்படுவது மட்டுமன்றி, அவர்களது பாவகரமான கர்மாக்களில் (தீவினைகள்) பங்கெடுத்துக் கொள்ள நேரிடும்.     அதனால், ஆன்மிக வாழ்க்கைக்கு ஆரோக்கியமான உணவுப் பழக்கம் மிகவும் அவசியமாகிறது. இது வெறும் ஆன்மிக சொல்லாடலாக இருந்தால், பலருக்கு நம்பிக்கை வாராது.

Eating more nutritious, plant-based foods is heart-healthy at any age, according to two research studies published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, an open access journal of the American Heart Association. In two separate studies analyzing different measures of healthy plant food consumption, researchers found that both young adults and postmenopausal women had fewer heart attacks and were less likely to develop cardiovascular disease when they ate more healthy plant foods.

The American Heart Association Diet and Lifestyle Recommendations suggest an overall healthy dietary pattern that emphasizes a variety of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, .. .. …  nuts and legumes and non-tropical vegetable oils. It also advises limited consumption of saturated fat, trans fat, sodium, red meat, sweets and sugary drinks. One study, titled "A Plant-Centered Diet and Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Disease during Young to Middle Adulthood," evaluated whether long-term consumption of a plant-centered diet and a shift toward a plant-centered diet starting in young adulthood are associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease in midlife. "Earlier research was focused on single nutrients or single foods, yet there is little data about a plant-centered diet and the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease," said Yuni Choi, Ph.D., lead author of the young adult study and a postdoctoral researcher in the division of epidemiology and community health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Minneapolis.

Choi and colleagues examined diet and the occurrence of heart disease in 4,946 adults enrolled in the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study. Participants were 18- to 30-years-old at the time of enrollment (1985-1986) in this study and were free of cardiovascular disease at that time. Participants included 2,509 Black adults and 2,437 white adults (54.9% women overall) who were also analyzed by education level (equivalent to more than high school vs. high school or less). Participants had eight follow-up exams from 1987-88 to 2015-16 that included lab tests, physical measurements, medical histories and assessment of lifestyle factors. Unlike randomized controlled trials, participants were not instructed to eat certain things and were not told their scores on the diet measures, so the researchers could collect unbiased, long-term habitual diet data.

தமிழ் தலைவன் என்ற புகழ் பெற்ற ஸ்ரீபேயாழ்வார் நமக்கு உரைக்கும் பாசுரம்.  ஏ, உலகத்தார்களே !  .. ..   ‘எது நல்லது, எது தீயது‘ என சஞ்சலத்துடன் விவாதித்துக்கொண்டே  வாழ்க்கையை வீணாக்காதீர் !!  எம்பெருமானிடத்தில் ஈடுபடுவது நன்று !  மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி பாசுரத்தில் - "தனது நெஞ்சில் பொன்றாமை மாயன் புகுந்து" என உரைக்கின்றார்.  பொன்றாமை  என்றால்  - :  - விச்சேதம்;  வழுவு, குறை, பங்கம்,   தவறு,  குற்றம், கேடு, பழிப்புரை  என பலபொருள் கொள்ளலாம். பொன்றாமை – நான் நசித்துப் போகாதபடியாக என்றுமாம். ஹ்ருதயத்தினுள்ளே நிற்றலிருத்தல் கிடத்தல்களுக்க விச்சேத மில்லாதபடியாக என்றுமாம். ஸ்வாமி பெரியவாச்சான் பிள்ளை சாதித்தது : "பகவத் தியானத்துக்கு விச்சேதம் பிறந்தால் அதுக்குப் பரிஹாரமாகத் திரு நாம சங்கீர்த்தனம் பண்ணுகை": 

உய்த்துணர்வென்னும் ஒளிகொள் விளக்கேற்றி,

வைத்தவனை நாடி வலைப்படுத்தேன், - மெத்தெனவே

நின்றானிருந்தான் கிடந்தானென்னெஞ்சத்து,

பொன்றாமை மாயன் புகுந்து ! 

மனத்தினாலும் அறிவினாலும் உய்ந்து உணர்ந்த விவேக உணர்ச்சி எனும் மாசற்ற தீபத்தை ஏற்றி, ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயனான எம்பெருமானை தனது இதயத்திலே வலைப்படுத்தி தனதாக்கிக்கொண்டால், அவ்வெம்பெருமான் குறை ஒன்றுமில்லாமல்  ஹ்ருதயத்திலே குடி புகுந்து, அமைதியாக, முதலில் நின்று, சற்று பிறகு,   வீற்றிருந்து அதன் பிறகு அங்கேயே  பள்ளிகொண்டருளினான் ~ என்கிறார் தமிழ் தலைவன் பேயாழ்வார்.

15.6.2015 - அன்று ரோஹிணி திருநக்ஷத்திரம்.  ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் சிறிய மட வீதி புறப்பட்டு கண்டருளினார். எம்பெருமானான ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனுக்கு பூ மாலைகளும், பொன் மாலைகளும் கூட - அருந்தமிழ் சொல்மாலையும் அழகு சேர்க்கின்றன - எனவேதான் ஒவ்வொரு புறப்பாட்டின் போதும் - பெருமாள் முன்பே திவ்யப்ரபந்தம் சேவிக்கப்பெறுகிறது. இன்றைய கோஷ்டியில்   தமிழ் தலைவனாம் பேயாழ்வாரின் மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி சேவிக்கப்பெற்றது.

Today being a Saturday, crowds are seen everywhere in the market, at beach and elsewhere but one cannot have darshan at Temple.  According to State Govt policies – Friday, Saturday & Sunday are holidays fro Temples !! – how sad !! – the principle is simple, on every important occasion for Hindus, their rights would be trampled .. .. ஸ்ரீராமனின் காதை  "இராமாயணம்" ஒரு அற்புத காவியம்.  கம்ப நாட்டாழ்வான் - கங்கைகாண் படலத்திலே - ஸ்ரீராமனுக்காக, குகன் கொணர்ந்த நாவாய்கள் பெரிய கங்கை நதியில் மிதந்து சென்ற    அழகை  விவரிக்கிறார்.  

வீரபாண்டிய கட்டபொம்மன் தூக்கிலிடப்பட்ட நாள் 16.10.1799. அந்த நாளை நினைவுபடுத்தி 108 ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகு வ.உ. சிதம்பரானார் சுதேசி நாவாய் சங்கம் கண்ட நாள் 16.10.1906. சுதந்திரப் போராட்ட வரலாற்றில் முக்கியமான நாள் அந்நாள் !!   கப்பலில் வணிகம் செய்யவந்த பிரிட்டிஷ்காரர்களை அதே கப்பல் கம்பெனியை ஆரம்பித்து மூட்டை முடிச்சோடு அனுப்புவதற்கு மிகுந்த எதிர்பார்ப்புடன் செயல்பட்டு ஆரம்பித்த அற்புதமான  அறப் போராட்டம்.  அது வெற்றியடையாதது பெரிய சூழ்ச்சி .. இந்திய சந்ததியினருக்கு இத்தகைய செயல்கள் இருட்டப்படிப்பு செய்யப்பட்டு, அடிமை வம்சங்களையும், கருணையுள்ள கானிங்கு பிரபுக்களையும் , அரசியல் கைதிகள் அவர்களது வாரிசுகளுக்கு எழுதிய கடிதங்களையும் சரித்திரமாக்கியது ஒரு சிவந்த சூழ்ச்சி.  

On the city roads, we see some Electric cars, scooters and there is much talk about them occupying the central space pushing out the petrol / diesel variants !

Is there an electric future for every mode of transportation? Perhaps that could occur in every possible manner as the merits of battery power seemingly pushing everything else out !!  Companies are working on electric cars and trucks, of course, but also buses, planes, tractors, golf carts, snowmobiles and boats. These projects are at varying stages of development and also varying stages of realism about near-term appeal and utility. Some of these nascent technologies will upend entire categories of transportation; others will be far more niche, at least for now. Electric boats, for example, currently work best for those willing to pay top dollar for a smaller model that doesn’t go very far and doesn’t need a lot of power to get there. That’s a mere sliver of the overall market.

Even before the Covid-19 pandemic left many Americans stuck at home, boating was on the rise. The boom has been fueled in part by innovations that make boats easier to use, new models of drawing customers — such as boat clubs and subscriptions — and a push to attract a broader swath of the American population. The U.S. boat market bottomed right after the financial crisis. In 2010, there were just shy of 178,000 boats sold in the U.S., totaling about $27.3 billion dollars, according to data from the National Marine Manufacturers Association.  Now the numbers are really blooming ! 

Candela has just revealed its latest hydrofoil electric boat, the Candela C-8. With the high-tech, ultra-premium electric boat designed for mass production, the company is calling this “an iPhone moment for the boat industry.” Candela’s first flying electric boat, the C-7, debuted last year as a radical new option in the boating industry. It flew above the water on hydrofoils, allowing it to achieve far better efficiency and range than any other electric boat. While it excelled at demonstrating the efficacy of Candela’s innovative technology, the boat was also largely hand-built from exotic materials in low-scale production for individual buyers. The C-7 sold so well that it greatly outstripped supply, leading Candela to develop the C-8 intended for mass-production.

The reason that a ship floats is that it displaces a lot of water. The displaced water keeps pushing  the ship upwards – this force is called the buoyancy force. தமிழரின் கடல் வாணிபம் மிகத் தொன்மையானது. தமிழர்கள் பெரிய பாய்மரக் கப்பல்களிலே சரக்குகளை ஏற்றிக்கொண்டு அயல்நாடுகளுக்குச் சென்று வாணிபம் செய்துள்ளனர். தமிழர் நாவாய் வைத்து வாணிபம் செய்ததற்கு ஆதாரமாகப் பானை ஓடுகள், காசுகள், சுவரோவியங்கள் ஆகிய தொல்லியல் சான்றுகளும் இலக்கியங்களும் தமிழரின் கடலோடிய ஆற்றலைப் பறைசான்றுகின்றன.  நாவாய் சாத்திரத்தில் கப்பல் கட்டுவதற்கு மரத்தைத் தேர்வு செய்தல், கப்பல் கட்டும் முறைகள், கப்பலின் உறுப்புகள், கப்பலைச் செலுத்தும் முறைகள், மரக்கலம் செய்வதற்கான நல்ல நாள், மரம் வெட்டிவரச் சாத்திரம் ஆகியன கூறப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்நூலில் கப்பலைக் குறிக்க நாவாய், வங்கம், கலம், ஏரா, தோணி, யாத்திரை மரம், படகு, ஓடம், கப்பல் முதலிய பல்வேறு சொற்கள் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன.

நாவாய்  என்பது படகு.  நம் தெப்பமும் ஒரு நாவாய்தான் !  வாய்நீரில் கிடக்கும் நாக்கு போல் நுனி குறுகி நீரில் ஓடும் கலத்தை நாவாய் என்றனர். இந்த நாவாய் வங்கம், கலம் என்னும் சொற்களாலும் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளன. நாவாயின் தோற்றம் பற்றியும், அவை இருந்த துறைமுகங்கள் பற்றியும் சங்கப்பாடல்களில் குறிப்புகள் உள்ளன. கங்கை கரையை கடந்து அப்பாற்செல்ல நினைத்த இராமபிரானின்  கருத்தை அறிந்துகொண்ட குகன், விரைவாகச் சென்று பெரிய படகு ஒன்றைக் கொண்டு வந்தான். தாமரை மலர்போலும் கண்களை உடைய இராமன் அங்கிருந்த முனிவர்களான அந்தணர்கள் அனைவரிடமும் விடை தருக என்று கூறிவிட்டு, அழகு திகழ் சீதையோடும் இலக்குவனோடும் படகில் இனிதாக ஏறினான்.: 

சங்கமும் மகர மீனும் தரளமும் மணியும் தள்ளி,

வங்க நீர்க் கடலும் வந்து தன் வழிப் படர, மானப்

பொங்கு வெங் களிறு நூக்க, கரை ஒரீஇப் போயிற்று அம்மா-

கங்கையும் இராமற் காணும் காதலது என்ன மாதோ! 

கங்கை நதியில், பெரிய மீன்களும், முதலைகளும் [Gangetic Gariyal] நீந்தி செல்வது இயல்பு .. .. நதிக்கும் யானைக்கும் தொடர்பு உண்டா ? - இதோ கவிச்சக்கரவர்த்தி கம்பரின் வாய்மொழி.  இராமனின்  மீது அபரிமிதமான ஆசையும், மரியாதையும் கொண்ட  குகனை நோக்கிப் படகை விரைவாகச் செலுத்துக என்றான் இராமபிரான்.   உடனே படகு விரைவாகவும், இள அன்னம் நடப்பதைப் போல அழகாகவும் சென்றது.  பெருமை பொருந்திய, மிக்க பலம் வாய்ந்த மேல் கிளம்பிய தந்தங்களை உடைய  பலம் பொருந்திய யானைகள் தம்  தள்ளுதலால் -  சங்கு, சுறாமீன், முத்து, மணிக்கற்கள் ஆகியவற்றைத் தள்ளி,  மரக் கலங்களையுடைய நீர் மிகுந்த கடலும்,  தன்னிடத்து வந்து பரவும்படி;  கங்கா நதியும்   இராமனைக் காணும் அன்பு மிக்கூர்ந்தது எனும்படி; கரை கடந்து  சென்றது.  யானைகள் கங்கையில் நீந்தித் தென்கரை செல்லும்போது,  கங்கைத் தண்ணீர்தள்ளப்பட்டுக் கரைக்கு மேலே பரவி யானைகளுக்கு முற்பட்டுத் தென் கரை அடைவது, கங்கையேஇராமனைக் காணும் காதலால் செல்வது போன்றது  என்று இசைக்கிறார் கம்பர். 

Reminiscing the good olden days – here are some photos of Sri Parthasarathi Perumal theppothsavam on 14.2.2010 – yes more than 11 years ago ! – one could see young people rejoicing – the heartening point is most of them seen in these photos are still continuing their kainkaryam with same zeal.
