திருவல்லிக்கேணியில் புதிய தங்க தண்டுகள் சமர்ப்பணை 

தோளுக்கு  இனியான் என்னே  ஓர் அற்புத சொல்லாடல்.   இன்மை பயப்பவை, மனதுக்கும் உடலுக்கும் உகப்பானவை -   இனியவை  !!

பண்டைக்காலத் தமிழ்நூல் தொகுப்புக்களில் ஒன்றான பதினெண்கீழ்க்கணக்கு நூல்களுள் ஒன்று -  இனியவை நாற்பது.  இதன் ஆசிரியர் பூதஞ்சேந்தனார்  !  இயற்பெயர் சேந்தனார்; தந்தை பெயர் பூதனார்;  மதுரைத் தமிழாசிரியர் மகனார் பூதஞ்சேந்தனார் என்று இவரை அழைத்தனர். இந்நூலில் 124 இனிய சொற்கள் கூறப்படுகின்றன.  இவை இவை இனிமை பயப்பவை என நாற்பது பாடல்களால் கூறுவதால் இனியவைநாற்பது எனப் பெயர் பெற்றது.  இத்தொகுப்பில் இருந்து ஓர் இனிய பாடல் :  

அந்தணர் ஓத்துடைமை ஆற்ற மிக இனிதே;

பந்தம் உடையான் படையாண்மை முன் இனிதே;

தந்தையே ஆயினும், தான் அடங்கான் ஆகுமேல்,

கொண்டு அடையான் ஆகல் இனிது. (பாடல்-7)  

அந்தணர் வேதம் ஓதுதல் மிக இனிது. குடும்பம் உடையவனைத் (இல்லறத்தானை) தளபதி ஆக்குதல் இனிது. தவறான ஒழுக்கங்கள் உடையவனாக இருப்பது தந்தையாகவே இருந்தாலும் அவர் சொற்களை ஏற்று நடக்காது இருத்தல் இனியது.  

இனியாள் என்றால் ' மனதுக்கு இனியவள்' என்று பொருள் படும்.  திருப்பாவையில் கோதை நாச்சியார்  ' மனத்துக்கு இனியானை பாடேல்' என உரைக்கின்றார்.  ஸ்ரீவைணவக் கோயில்களில்எம்பெருமான்  உற்சவ மூர்த்தியை எழுந்தருளப் பண்ணும் தண்டுகள் செருகிய பீடத்தை 'தோளுக்கு இனியான்' என்று கூறுவர், அதை சுமப்பது இன்பம்/பாக்கியம் எனக் கருதி!  

பெருமாள் புறப்பாடு கண்டருளும் பஞ்சபர்வ கேடயம் முதலானவை அழகாக 'தோளுக்கு இனியான்' என வழங்கப்பெறுகின்றன.  இந்த கேடயத்தில் எம்பெருமான் எழுந்து அருளி இருக்க - அதை 2 பெரிய தண்டுகள் பிணைத்து ஸ்ரீபாதம்தாங்கிகள் தம் தோள்களிலே ஏளப்பண்ணிக் கொண்டு வருவார்கள்.  

இன்று திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்தில் எம்பெருமானுக்கு புதிய தங்க தண்டுகள் (நல்ல உயர்ந்த மரத்தில், செப்பு தகடு அடித்து, அதன் மேல் அழகு பூண்களுடன் தங்கரேக்குகள், முலாம் பூசி) அழகுற மிளிரும் தண்டுகள் திரு ஜெகன் எனும் ஒரு பக்தரால் சமர்பிக்கப்பட்டன.  பவித்ரோத்சவ புறப்பாடு முடிந்தவுடன், மங்கள இசையுடன், திருவீதிகளில் கரிக்கோல ஊர்கோலமாக அவை வலம் வந்தன.  

In every purappadu – there are so many attractions – Emperuman – arulicheyal goshti, sripadhamthangigal, Archakas (battacharyas) and many many kainkaryabarargal – one among them doing a tough kainkaryam are the bearers of  Emperuman .. .. other than vahana purappadu – Emperuman has thiruveethivalam in Kedayam, aesthetically known in Srivaishnava parlance as ‘Tholukku iniyan’.  

Today a new set of golden thandu (wooden ones with copper rakes embossed with gold) was presented to Emperuman and had karikkola purappadu.  Tomorrow they will have the fortune of carrying Emperuman.

Praying Emperuman Sri Parthasarathi - "கண்ணைத் திறந்து பார் மனமே" -

 பொன்மாலை பொழுது !  இன்றைய நாள் சென்று விட்டது.  வாழ்வில் மற்றும் ஓர் நாள் !!  நன்றாக சென்றதா !  வெறுமனே சென்றதா! வீணாக சென்றதா! -  ஆழ்மனசு அறியும்.  

கண்ணை மூடி தியானித்தால் கண்ணபெருமான் - எவ்வளவு வீணர்களாக சத்தற்ற விஷயங்களுக்கு சண்டையிட்டு, ஆத்திரப்பட்டு, நாட்களை வீணாக்கியுள்ளோம் !!    ஊத்துக்காடு வேங்கட கவி  இயற்றிய "கண்ணைத் திறந்து பார் மனமே" - பிலஹரி ராகத்தில் கேட்டு லயித்ததுண்டா !!     

 

கண்ணைத் திறந்து பார் மனமே எந்தக்

காலமும் தவம் செய்தாலும் காணலரிதாகின மாதவன் வெகு நேரமாக

காத்திருக்கின்றான் உந்தன் முன்னமே –

 

பண்ணும் இயலும் சேர்ந்தொலிக்க இரு

பார்வையென்னும் நீலமணி ஜொலிக்க

பண்ணும் தவம் எல்லாம் பலிக்க உந்தன்

பார்வை முன்னே வந்து நின்று ஸேவை தந்து களிக்க

 

நீலவண்ணத் தோகையொன்று நேரநின்று ஆடி ஆடி

நிர்த்தமிடும் முடியினைக் காணாய்

நெஞ்சே உனையள்ளும் மந்தார மாலையும்

நின்று அசைந்தாடுவதை கண்திறந்து காணாய்

காலை வளைத்து நின்று கானக் குழல் ஊதும் அந்தக்

காட்சியினைக் கண் திறந்து காணாய்  

 

ஊத்துக்காடு வெங்கட சுப்பையர் (1700 - 1765) ஓர் அற்புத கலைஞர் - மனமுருகும் கீர்த்தனைகளை இயற்றியுள்ளார்.  திருவாரூர் மாவட்டத்தில் தக்சண துவாரகை என்னும் மன்னார்குடியில் பிறந்தார். இவர் வளர்ந்த இடம் தேனுஜவாசபுரம் என அழைக்கப்படும் ஊத்துக்காடாகும். இந்த ஊர் திருவாருர் மாவட்டம், வலங்கைமான் தாலுக்காவில் கும்பகோணத்திலிருந்து திருக்கருகாவூர் வழியாக தஞ்சாவூர் செல்லும் வழியில் அமைந்துள்ளது.  கண்ணனின் திருவிளையாடல்களைப் புனைந்து எண்ணற்ற பாடல்களை இயற்றி தன்  தாயார் மறைவுக்கு பின் உலக வாழ்வில் பற்றற்று துறவியாகவே வாழ்ந்தவர்.

How often do you buy Silk saree ? – what is costliest one ever bought by you ??

 

Silk is the strongest natural textile in the world. This textile was just recently surpassed in strength by a lab-engineered biomaterial, but it remains the strongest fabric made through natural processes. Westernization has made many  look more comfy in different attires  but traditional attires   continue to stand a step ahead.  In this Maha Bharath, especially Southern India - wearing saree comes up as a special affair it is  magic draped in nine yards.  Back in 2012 a saree made waves – it was not just pure silk alone it had  Navratna stones and gold embroidery.  Its makers were  Chennai Silks and was priced at Rs.40 lakh, entering the Guinness World Records.  That saree reportedly  had  navratna stones like diamond, emerald, ruby, yellow sapphire, sapphire, topaz, pearl, cat's eye and coral,  embroidered in metals such as gold, platinum and silver.  

 

இன்று 28.8.2023 திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்யதேசத்திலே திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவத்திலே மூன்றாம் நாள்.  ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் சிறிய மாடவீதி புறப்பாடு கண்டருளினார்.  பல்வேறு உத்சவங்களில் ஆவணி மாதம் நிகழும் பவித்ரோத்சவம் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்தது. பவித்ரம் என்ற சொல்லுக்கு 'சுத்தம் அதாவது பரிபூரணமான அப்பழுக்கு இல்லாத ஒன்று' என்று பொருள் கொள்ளலாம்.   இன்று மாலை நம் ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள், பெரிய  அழகு மலர் மாலையுடன், கிரீடம்,  புதுப்பூணூல் சாற்றிக்கொண்டு அற்புத புறப்பாடு கண்டு அருளினார். இன்றைய படங்களிலே பெருமாள் பல வண்ணப் பட்டு மாலைகள் அணிந்து இருப்பதை சேவிக்கலாம். இவை பவித்ரம் என்று அழைக்கப்படுபவை.  

Silk has got a pride of place – silk sarees attract women, silk dhoties are ritualistic.  Silk is a natural protein fibre, some forms of which can be woven into textiles. The best-known silk is obtained from the cocoons of the larvae of the mulberry silkworm Bombyx mori reared in captivity (sericulture). The shimmering appearance of silk is due to the triangular prism-like structure of the silk fibre, which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles, thus producing different colors. Silk is produced by several insects; but, generally, only the silk of moth caterpillars has been used for textile manufacturing.   

To those who would advise shunning silk due to killing of caterpillars – do read on.  Odisha has successfully piloted the Ahimsa Silk project which is an eco-friendly, cruelty-free alternative to the conventional fabric being used by silk connoisseurs. From 700 farmers across five districts last year, the department plans to rope in 3,000 farmers this year to grow it.  Close to 30,000 silkworms are boiled alive to weave a Pata or silk saree. But Odisha has decided to end the killing. A pilot project called ‘Ahimsa Silk’ initiated by the department of Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, ensures that silkworms are not killed to make silk, unlike the traditional method under which it is extracted after boiling the cocoons with live worms inside. For this purpose, the department has adopted castor-based Ericulture reported Indian Express.

Ahimsa silk - also called peace, vegan or cruelty-free silk - is a gentle, non-violent method of making silk from Eri silkworms. It follows a process under which silkworms grow and feed on castor leaves for 18 to 20 days till they reach their final size. The worms then start to create their cocoon which takes another 9 to 10 days. They slowly transform into moths and once they fly out of the cocoons, the silk-making begins.  Each Eri silk cocoon has a continuous filament that has a usable length of 900 metres to 1 km that is freed by softening the sericin (a protein that binds the filament) and then unwinding the strands. These extremely delicate and thin silk strands are twisted together to form yarn. The peace silk shuns the violence. “Non-violence is one of the most important tenets of Hinduism. If one questions whether Lord Jagannath would love to wear clothes that are woven by killing innocent silkworms, the answer would be no. Hence, we decided to dedicate the Ahimsa silk to the Holy Trinity,” said an  official.

The Silk Routes were of great importance in the passage of not only goods and crafts but also of religions and ideologies throughout Central Asia, the Near East and Europe.   The literary, architectural and artistic effects of this can be traced today in the cultures of civilizations along the Silk Routes.  Moving away today is day 3 of Thiru Pavithrothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam and Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman dazzled wearing beautiful garlands and thiruppavithirams made of silken threads.

பேயாழ்வார் இடைகழியில் மற்ற இருவர் ஏற்றிய விளக்கினிலே பெருமாளை சேவித்து 'திருக்கண்டேன் பொன்மேனி கண்டேன்' என இசைத்தவர்.  அவரது வரிகள் இங்கே:  

விரும்பி  விண் மண்ணளந்த அஞ்சிறைய வண்டார்

சுரும்பு துளையில்  சென்றூத, அரும்பும்

புனந்துழாய் மாலையான் பொன்னங் கழற்கே,

மனம்துழாய் மாலாய் வரும்.

பூக்கள் மணமானவை; அழகானவை;  அவைகளை தொடுத்தால் கிட்டும்  அழகிய மாலையிலே,  சுறுசுறுவென இயங்கும்  சிறகுகளையுடைய வண்டுகள் துளையில் சென்று ஊத, அதனால்  அரும்புகள் உண்டாகப்பெற்ற மிக தூய நல்ல திருத்துழாய் மாலையை அணிந்தவனான எம்பெருமானுடைய பொன்னாங்கழல்கள் - சாதாரண திருவடிகள் அல்ல !   விண்ணுலகத்தையும் மண்ணுலகத்தையுமளந்த மிகவழகிய திருவடிகள்,  விஷயத்திலேயே எனது மனமானது லயித்து  அதனையே நினைத்து  மயங்கிக் கிடக்கின்றது. அந்த எம்பெருமானின் தங்க திருவடிகளையே சரணாக பற்றினேன் - எனக்கு எவ்வித குறையும் வாராது என அறுதியிடுகிறார் சுவாமி பேயாழ்வார்.

It is surrendering unto Him being guided by our Acaryas.  Prapatti is neither mere faith in the saving grace of Sriman Narayana  nor a mere prayer to Him for protection/ salvation / moksha. Prapatti would not  mean a mere surrender and a life centered around serving Sriman Narayana.  The concept of Prapatti encompasses all of this & is much much more. Though "Saranagathi" is in general used for denoting "surrender" – it is a life of ultimate surrender and living under the lotus feet of Sriman Narayana.

Today 26^th Aug 2023 is  day 1  of Thirupavithrothsavam at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam – Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman had periya mada veethi purappadu this evening. 

Vasantha finds her husband Ranganathan dead. A masked murderer tries to kill her too, but she escapes from him. Vasantha is left in a state of shock and becomes mentally paralysed.   More murders follow and   every time a murder takes place,  a cigar bit is  left by the murderer intentionally.   That was the plot of -  Athey Kangal (அதே கண்கள் -Same Eyes) written and directed by A. C. Tirulokchandar, starring Rvichandran and Kanchana, released in 1967  produced by A. V. Meiyappan under Balasubramanian & Co, a subsidiary of his company AVM Productions.  

Arabs capture French Captain de Cadiere (Bryant), but he escapes with the help of Hassouna (Nazimova), a young Bedouin woman of the desert. She is abandoned to die by the irate sheik (Stern),  captured by marauders of the desert sands, and is sold in slavery to the manager of a small French circus. The Captain, at a show near a small town where his ship is anchored, finds the Bedouin woman and takes her to his home. After hearing that the Captain's detachment has killed all of her tribe in the desert, she vows vengeance upon the Frenchman. However, she fails in the execution of her threat due to his love for her. -  that was the plot of ‘Eye for Eye’ - 1918 American silent drama film directed by Albert Capellani.   There seems to be many movies made with the same name at different decades !

 

Eyes are  very important organ. A healthy pair of eyes means a clear vision, which plays a major role in day-to-day life and quality of experiences. Humans have binocular vision, meaning that both the eyes create a single combined image. Optical components create an image, which further gets perceived and interpreted by the brain via connecting neurons. The eye sits in a protective bony socket called the orbit. Six extraocular muscles in the orbit are attached to the eye. These muscles move the eye up and down, side to side, and rotate the eye. The extraocular muscles are attached to the white part of the eye called the sclera. This is a strong layer of tissue that covers nearly the entire surface of the eyeball.  Light is focused into the eye through the clear, dome-shaped front portion of the eye called the cornea.

இமை - நாம் அனைவரும் அறிந்ததே ! கண்விழியை மூடி திறக்கவல்ல தோலுறுப்பு.   கண் சிமிட்டும் நேரம், ஒரு மாத்திரை எனப்படும். 'கண்ணை இமை காப்பது போல்...’ என்பார்கள்  - அவ்வாறு  இமைகள் நம் கண்களை காக்கின்றன.    கண்ணுக்கு அழகும் முகத்துக்குப் பொலிவும் தருவது மட்டும் அல்ல, கண்கள் உலர்ந்து விடாமலும், பாக்டீரியா முதலிய தூசுகள் கண்களில் விழுந்து விடாமல் தடுக்கும் அரணாகவும் கண் இமையில் உள்ள முடிகள் செயல்படுகின்றன.  இன்றைய உலகத்தில் கணினியில் மிக அதிக நேரம் செலுத்துவோர் கண் மற்றும் இமையில் வலி அல்லது மற்ற பிரச்னைகளை சந்திக்கிறார்கள்.  

The nictitating membrane (from Latin nictare, to blink) is a transparent or translucent third eyelid present in some animals that can be drawn across the eye from the medial canthus to protect and moisten it while maintaining vision.  An eyelid is a thin fold of skin that covers and protects an eye. The levator palpebrae superioris muscle retracts the eyelid, exposing the cornea to the outside, giving vision. This can be either voluntarily or involuntarily. The human eyelid features a row of eyelashes along the eyelid margin, which serve to heighten the protection of the eye from dust and foreign debris, as well as from perspiration. "Palpebral" (and "blepharal") means relating to the eyelids. Its key function is to regularly spread the tears and other secretions on the eye surface to keep it moist, since the cornea must be continuously moist. They keep the eyes from drying out when asleep. Moreover, the blink reflex protects the eye from foreign bodies.  Most mammals have eyelids similar to ours – but other types of animals don’t need eyelids. For example, fish don’t have true eyelids – they live in water that keeps their eyes moist. Fish can’t close their eyes – and neither can snakes. Some lizards have two eyelids – a thin, clear one to protect the open eye – and another pigmented eyelid to close the eye.

‘bat an eyelid’ – would mean to display a subtle emotional reaction, such as consternation, annoyance, sadness, joy, etc. Generally used in the negative to denote that the person in question did not display even a hint of an emotional response. “not bat an eyelid” would mean –  not to  display even a hint of an emotional response, such as consternation, annoyance, sadness, joy, etc.

 இமை - இயற்கை மனிதனுக்கும், விலங்குகளுக்கும் தந்த வர பிரசாதம்.  'நடிகைகள், மாடலிங் துறையில் இருப்பவர்கள்  போன்ற சிலர் செயற்கை இமை பொருத்தி வந்த காலம் மாறி, தற்போது கல்லூரி பெண்களிடமும் செயற்கை இமை பிரபலமாகி இருக்கிறது. இன்றைய பெண்கள் திருமண நிகழ்ச்சி, ஏனைய விழாக்கள்  மட்டுமில்லாமல் எந்த இடத்திலும் தனித்துவமாகவும், அழகாகவும் தெரியவேண்டும் என்பதற்காக  செயற்கை கண் இமைகளைப் பொருத்திக் கொள்ள விரும்புகின்றனர்.

புறநானூறு போர்க்களத்தை விவரிக்கிறது.  படைவீரர்கள் மாண்ட பின்னர் அரசன் சோழனும் சேரனும் மோதிக்கொண்டனர். இதற்கு அறப்போர் போர் என்று பெயர். இந்தப் போரில் இருவரும் போர்களத்திலேயே மாண்டனர். இரு பெரு வேந்தரின் குடைகளும் முரசுகளும் போர்களத்தில் சாய்ந்து கிடந்தன.  இப்படி வீரமரணம் பெற்றவர்கள்  -   வாடாத கற்பகப்பூ மாலையும், இமைகளைச் சிமிட்டாத பார்வையும், நறுமணமுள்ள உணவை உண்ணும் தேவர்கள் அனைவரும் மிக அருமையாகப் பெறக்கூடிய விருந்தினை நிரம்பப் பெற்றனர்!!  [இமையா நாட்டத்து நாற்ற உணவினோரும் ஆற்ற அரும் பெறல் உலகம்]

ஆழ்வார்கள் மயர்வற மதிநலம் அருளப்பெற்றவர்கள். .  அவர்கள் தங்கள் செயல் எண்ணம் வார்த்தை ஒவ்வொன்றிலும் எம்பெருமானையே பேணினவர்கள்.  ஆழ்வார் பாசுரத்திலே   "இமையாத கண்"  எனப்பெற்றது ஞானக்கண். அது திறந்தால் அஜ்ஞானவிருள் அகலுமாதலால் இருளகலநோக்கி என்றார் நம் பொய்கையாழ்வார். .

திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவம் ஆவணி மாதம் ஏழு நாட்கள் நடை பெறுகிறது. இந்த திருப்பவித்ரோத்சவத்தில் திருக்கோவிலில் யாகசாலை அமைத்து ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் உத்சவர் திருமுன்பு திருக்கோவில் பட்டாச்சார்யர்களால் யாக யக்னங்களும், வேதவிற்பன்னர்களால் வேத பாரயணமும்;  அத்யாபகர்கள் மற்றும் திவ்யபிரபந்த கோஷ்டியினரால் அருளிச்செயல் - திருவாய்மொழி  சேவை சாற்றுமுறையும் நடைபெறுகிறது. ஏழு நாட்களும் திருவீதி புறப்பாடு நடக்கிறது. கோவிலில் எல்லா எம்பெருமானுக்கும் பட்டு நூலிலான பல வண்ணங்கள் உடைய திருப்பவித்ர மாலை சாற்றப்படுகிறது.  

இதோ இங்கே பொய்கைப்பிரானின் அமுத வரிகள் -   ஆழ்வார் தம் முதல் திருவந்தாதி பாசுரத்தில் இருந்து : - 

இமையாத கண்ணால் இருள்   அகல நோக்கி,

அமையாப் பொறிபுலன்கள்  ஐந்தும் - நமையாமல்,

ஆகத்தணைப்பார்  அணைவரே, ஆயிரவாய்

நாகத்தணையான் நகர்.

இமையாத கண்ணால் -  அதாவது, ஞானத்தில்  மிகுந்த நெஞ்சு எனும் உட்கண்ணாலே அஜ்ஞாநமாகிய இருள்  நீங்கும்படியாக, தமது ஸ்வரூபத்தையும் பரப்ரஹ்ம ஸ்வரூபத்தையும்  உள்ளது, உள்ளபடியே  கண்டும் திருப்தி  பெற்று அடங்கியிராத பொறி புலன்கள் ஐந்தும் அவற்றிற்கு உரிய  பஞ்சவிஷயங்களையும், அடக்காமலே -  பூவுலகத்து மாதர்களின் தேஹத்தை அணைத்துக்கொண்டு கண்டபடி திரிபவர்கள், ஆயிரம்  தலைகளையும் வாய்களையும்  கொண்ட ஆதி சேஷனைப் படுக்கையாகவுடைய எம்பெருமானது நகரமாகிய ஸ்ரீவைகுண்டத்தை கிட்டப் பெறமாட்டார்கள் !  - எனவே உலகத்து ஆசைகளை ஒழித்து, எம்பெருமானிடம் தங்கள் பாசத்தை செலுத்துமாறு உரைக்கின்றார் பொய்கை ஆழ்வார்.
