Though too early to celebrate, there are some
good signs in the Covid 19 front in India.
As per the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India
on October 26 reported single-day spike of 45,149 new coronavirus cases in the
last 24 hours. Today (26.10.2020) is the 217th day since India implemented a nationwide
lockdown, to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and
now stands at 90.2 percent. The no. of recovered patients are also higher.
Globally, many countries are suffering in
what is stated as second wave. Britain
is now recording more Covid-19 deaths each day for the size of its population
than the US for the first time since June, data has revealed. Both countries
are currently recording around two Covid-19 deaths for every million people —
but Britain's rate stands slightly higher at 2.63, compared to 2.4 in the US.
The UK suffered far higher daily death counts in the spring, relative to its
population. But over the summer, while Britain's outbreak fizzled out,
America's failed to improve. The US currently has the highest cumulative
death toll in the world at 228,477. And researchers warned last week that the
grim tally could pass half a million by February, in a worst-case scenario. Britain also posted its highest ever daily
number of cases tally last week, registering 26,688 positive tests on
Wednesday. Officials in both nations
have been highly criticised for their handling of the crisis. Donald Trump's
administration was blamed for 'one of the greatest losses of American life in
history' by his presidential election rival Joe Biden, while Boris Johnson was
accused of failing to act quickly enough in March.
The Czech Republic is facing a 'catastrophic'
Covid-19 outbreak and needs a 'miracle' to avoid new restrictions, its prime
minister said last night with its infection rate now the highest of any major
country in the world. Andrej Babis said
the current lockdown measures 'are not working yet' after the country's
coronavirus deaths doubled in the space of two weeks. Like many countries which
escaped lightly from the first wave, the Czech Republic is now seeing record
numbers of fatalities. The country where
the virus originated, China reported the highest number of asymptomatic
Covid-19 cases in nearly seven months, following a mass infection of an unknown
origin in the northwestern Xinjiang region.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging
people around the world not to give up in the fight against the coronavirus as
cases surge once again, stressing the need for mask-wearing, physical
distancing and other measures to avoid the kind of full-scale lockdowns that
were imposed earlier this year. WHO
chief told a virtual briefing that he understood the
“pandemic fatigue” that some people were feeling but stressed the need to
continue measures to contain a virus for which there remains no cure or
vaccine.
The Covid-19 pandemic arrived when we were on
the threshold of a fourth industrial revolution, based on artificial
intelligence. Perhaps this is the right time for another renaissance that the
World fights the dreaded virus and eliminates it.
For us, Srivaishnavaites, there is simple
remedy. All our woes will vanish in thin
air, when we utter the names of Lord Sriman Narayana. When we utter ‘Madhava’ – the Lord at the
golden walled Thiruvananthapura Nagar, all good things happen. Those who worship Him with fragrant sandal
paste, flower, lamp, incense and fresh lotus petals will attain eternal
glory.

Mylapore is
a shoppers’ paradise, still seeing
crowds amidst Corona too ~ the
historical place has two MRTS railway stations : Thirumayilai and Sri Mundakakanni
amman temple. In between runs Kutchery road, linking Beach Road with Luz
Junction and you would have travelled many a times on this – do you know that
one of the bylanes leads to a famous landmark at Arundale Street
– Sri Peyalwar avatharasthalam. One would be
surprised to find so many temples in small lanes and bylanes of
Thirumayilapuri. As one crosses, the Hamilton Bridge, is the famous
‘Sri Mylai Madhava Perumal Thirukovil’ and behind this is ‘ Mundagakanni Amman temple’. At
Madhava Perumal temple, the Presiding deity is in a sitting posture hailed as
Sri Madhavar and His consort is Amirthavalli. The Uthsavar idol is
extremely beautiful.
