Sri DevapPerumal Varadha Rajar Uthsavam 2019

The city of Kanchipuram, now famous for silks, was the seat of learning in the ancient languages of Pali, Sanskrit and Tamil.  It has been a great spiritual town as it houses so many Temples.  It is also the place where alongside Saiva and Vaishnava temples,  Jainese and Buddhist viharas too prospered.  It was the seat of the famous Pallava kingdom.

Today 17.5.2019  starts the Brahmothsavam of Lord DevapPerumal ~ Devathi Rajar, also known as Varadharajar at Thirukachi. For Sri Vaishnavaites, it is ‘Perumal Kovil’  and it is located in vast expanse of   22acres in Chinna (small) Kanchipuram on the Kanchipuram - Chengalpet -Madras road.  There are two big Gopurams - the Eastern Gopuram built by Krishnadeva Raaya and the Western temple tower built earlier by the Pallavas. Later, several rulers contributed to the renovation of this temple. Several beautiful sculptures can be seen at this temple.

This Uthsavam assumes great significance as this was started by Brahma himself, celebrating the festival [Brahmothsavam] for Lord Devathi Rajar.  The Moolavar at this Thirukovil  is on a small hillock 10m tall and a fleet of 24 stps, termed "Hasthagiri" – giving darshan in a standing posture.  There are murals of the late Vijayanagara empire  found on the ceiling. The thayar’s name is Perundevi thayar.

நாவாயில் உண்டே*  'நமோநாரணா' என்று,*

ஓவாது உரைக்கும் உரை உண்டே,* - மூவாத-

மாக்கதிக்கண் செல்லும்*  வகை உண்டே,*  என் ஒருவர்-

தீக்கதிக்கண் செல்லும் திறம்?

பக்தியோகம் ஒரு எளிய மார்க்கம்.  எம்பெருமானின் தாள் பணிந்து அவனை அடைவதே நம் லட்சியம்.  நற்கதி பெற என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்ற கேள்வி எழுகிறதா ? 

மிக எளிய உபாயம். மிக எளிமையாக  செய்யக்கூடியது. நம்மிடமே இருக்கும் அவயங்களை உபயோகிப்பது!  நாம் உண்பதற்கும், உணர்வதற்கும், உரைப்பதற்கும் உள்ளது நாக்கு.  நாம் சொல்லும் நாமம் – ஓம் நமோ நாராயணா எனும் திருவஷ்டாக்ஷரம். நாம் அறிந்த எளியவன் நாராயணனாகிய எம்பெருமான். இப்படி உயர்வான எம்பெருமானை ஏத்துகைக்கென்று ஏற்பட்ட நாவைக் கொண்டு  -அவனை மட்டுமே உயர்வாக உரைப்போம்.  மந்தமதிப்புவி மானிடர்கள்,  உபயோகமற்ற விஷயங்களைச் சொல்லுகைக்கு தங்கள் நாவை உபயோகித்து அநர்த்தப்படுகின்றார்களே! இஃது என்ன ஆச்சரியம்! என்று ஆழ்வார் வியக்கின்றார். உண்ணும்சோறு, பருகும்நீர், சொல்லும்சொல்,  எண்ணும்எண்ணம். எல்லாம் நாராயணனே என்று ஓயாமல் துதிப்போம். களைப்பில்லாமல், வேறுஸ்மரணை இல்லாமல் திரும்பதிரும்ப சொல்வோம் 'நமோநாராயணா ' என்ற நாமம்.  அந்த திருமந்திரம் நம்மை திரும்பப் பிறவாமல்  வைகுண்டத்திற்கு இட்டுச் செல்லும். ~ பொய்கைப்பிரான், முதல்திருவந்தாதி.

                         Poigai Azhwar is unable to comprehend the attitude of earth residents.  All have a tongue and know the mantra ‘Om Namo Narayana’ – the purpose of living and simple way of doing yoga is chanting the name of Sriman Narayana with the blessed tongue / mouth – when recitation is the easiest path, some indulge in unnecessary prattle on useless things using one’s own mouth falling into the abyss of evil – why not they too realise and understand the easy path of attaining the heavenly Lord Maha Vishnu.

Today, the annual brahmothsavam of Lord Varadha Rajar started at Thiruvallikkeni too.  Here the purppadus are on evenings only, save Garuda sevai  on 19.5.2019.  Today it was morning purappadu as today is Narasimha Jayanthi.  Here are some photos of Sri Varadharajar in Hamsa vahanam.
