Held for the third time in Surakarta, Central Java, in
Sept. the annual Indonesian Umbrella
Festival [FPI] charmed visitors with beautiful, brightly colored umbrellas. Throughout the three-day festival, hundreds
of visitors packed Balekambang Park to enjoy the exotic umbrellas displayed
across the park that was built by Surakarta king KGPAA Mangkunegara VII in
1921.
Colorful umbrellas greeted visitors from the park’s
entrance. As is the trend, people queued up in front of the umbrella art installations to
take selfies, more than enjoying the festival atmosphere, reports Jakarta Times.
Getting back to our own place, Chennai Chennai and all
parts of Tamil Nadu reeled under excessive rains last year and purappadu of
Swami Manavala Mamunigal too was affected ~ not this year. On day 4, there was such a grand Deepavali
celebrations. This morning it rained
(not so heavily) - ordinary mortals took shelter when it rained – moved around
carrying umbrellas, wearing rain coats and more – for the Supreme Lord, it is
Adisesha who is the parasol. Adisesha in our Sampradhaya is fondly Ananthazhvan
~ he serves the Lord always – he is His bed when Lord is asleep; when He walks
– he is the divine Umbrella – when Lord descends to earthly World in His
various avatars, Ananthazhwan accompanies Him in some form and continues his
service.
The Lord once decided to depute Adisesha to the
world on a mission to reform men and women and remain there for 200 years. Adisehsa spent 120 years as Sri Ramanuja, for
the rest of the determined period (80 years) he was reborn as Swami Manavala
Mamunigal. That our
Acharyar Mamunigal was a manifestation of Adisesha was proved in an
incident when some jealous people set fire to his house but he slipped away to
safety under certain compelling circumstances and to continue his task
uninterrupted he took to ascetic order.
Today (1st Nov 2016) is day 7 of Sri Manavala Mamunigal
Thiruvavathara uthsavam – and it was purappadu of Mamunigal in Sesha vahanam. Here
