Living
in a city that too Metropolitan city, has its distinct advantages ~ but Chennai
is reeling under server water shortage ! ..
fortunately some respite as after close to 200 days – there have been
some rains in the week that fleeted past.
City suburbs too are suffering and some complain of neglect .. .. sad,
that places like Thiruneermalai (which was under water for 6 months making
Thirumangai Azhwar wait !) – which was under floods in Dec 2015, is now dry ..
it was sad to see the Temple tank bone dry .. ..
The
temple place, is known for its leather tanneries on the way and quarries too –
there was a report in Indian Express that the construction debris from the
Chennai Metro Rail’s sites where work is going on is collected and dumped illegally
on the waterbed in a quarry at Thiruneermalai along the Chennai Bypass Road.
When Express visited the spot, locals and residents said that this activity had
been happening since construction of Phase-I stretch that started in 2011. The
Thiruneermalai quarry is one of the few structures in the city that still holds
a good amount of water. As a handful of
lorries have been depositing debris into the quarry’s waterbed on a daily basis
for the past eight years, the accumulated debris resembles a small mountain
now. Sources privy to the issue said that concrete waste was collected from
Metro stations where construction is underway and from Wimco Nagar where
Phase-I extension is in progress. Residents recalled that before this menace
started, they used to drink stagnant rainwater from the quarry which had no
traces of pollution then.

This
is no post on quarry or anything else ~ a religious post on Thiruneermalai
divyadesam. Thiruneermalai has a beautiful pushkarini and is in
two parts – one at the ground level and the other atop a small
hill. The sannathi of Neervannar is at the base along with his
consort Animamalar Thayar and sannathies of Kalyana Ramar and Andal. As
one ascends 300 odd steps, one can have great darshan of Lord Ranganathar
(in reclining posture); Thiruvikramar; Lord Narasimha (in sitting
posture) - “நின்றானிருந்தான் கிடந்தான் நடந்தாற்கிடம் மாமலையாவது
நீர்மலையே” – in
the words of Thirumangai Azhwar.
The
Lord in Krishna Avathar married Nappinnai coming from the cowherd clan and the
lotus dame Mahalakshmi; He remained ever merciless against the Asuras ~
that great Lord who is worshipped standing at divyadesam surrounded
by groves of the well watered Thirunaraiyur, in a sitting posture at Thiruvali,
reclining at Thirukudanthai and measuring the earth at Thirukkovalur – is to be
seen and worshipped at the great hill abode at Thiruneermalai.

சோலைகளாலே சூழப்பட்டு நல்ல தீர்த்தங்களையுடைய திருநறையூரிலே நின்றவனும், திருவாலியிலே
வீற்றிருந்தவனும், திருக்குடந்தையிலே சயனித்தவனும், தடாகங்களாலே விளங்குகின்ற
திருக்கோவலூரிலே உலகளந்த திருக்கோலமாக எழுந்தருளியிருந்தவனுமான எம்பெருமானுக்கு இடமான
மாமலை, சிறந்த மலையான திருநீர்மலையாம்; என்கிறார் திருமங்கை மன்னன்.
திருநீர்மலை ஒரு அற்புத
திவ்யதேசம். பெரிய குளம் அருகே அமைந்துள்ள
கோவிலும், மலைமேல் மேலும் சன்னதிகளும் அமைந்துள்ளன. சிறியமலை மேலேறிச் செல்ல படிக்கட்டுகள் வசதியாக
இருக்கின்றன. அடிவாரக் கோவிலில் உள்ள மூலவர் நீலமுகில் வண்ணன், நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில்,
கிழக்கு நோக்கிச் சேவை சாதிக்கிறார். தாயார் அணிமாமலர் மங்கை, தனிக்கோவில் நாச்சியாராக
எழுந்தருளியிருக்கிறார். மலைமேல் சாந்த நரசிம்மன், வீற்றிருந்த திருக்கோலத்தில், கிழக்கு
நோக்கியும், ரங்கநாதன், மாணிக்க சயனமாகத் தெற்கு நோக்கியும், திருவிக்கிரமன் நின்ற
திருக்கோலமாகக், கிழக்கு நோக்கியும் சேவை சாதிக்கிறார்கள். பள்ளிகொண்ட அரங்கநாதனின் உத்சவர் கீழே கண்ணாடி மண்டபத்தில்
எழுந்து அருளி உள்ளார்.
