Masi Masapirappu purappadu @ Thiruvallikkeni - 2019

Today 13^th Feb 2019 is Masi masapirappu ~ the starting of the month of Masi and at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had purappadu.

A month is a unit of time, used with calendars, which is approximately as long as a natural period related to the motion of the Moon; month and Moon are cognates. The traditional concept arose with the cycle of Moon phases; such months (lunations) are synodic months and last approximately 29.53 days.

Miles away, NASA is trying one last time to contact its record-setting Mars rover Opportunity, before calling it quits. The rover has been silent for eight months, victim of one of the most intense dust storms in decades. Thick dust darkened the sky last summer and, for months, blocked sunlight from the spacecraft's solar panels. NASA said on Tuesday it will issue a final series of recovery commands, on top of more than 1,000 already sent. If there's no response by today —which NASA suspects will be the case—Opportunity will be declared dead, 15 years after arriving at the red planet.   Team members are already looking back at Opportunity's achievements, including confirmation water once flowed on Mars.

Opportunity was, by far, the longest-lasting lander on Mars. Besides endurance, the six-wheeled rover set a roaming record of 28 miles (45 kilometers.) Its identical twin, Spirit, was pronounced dead in 2011, a year after it got stuck in sand and communication ceased. Both outlived and outperformed expectations, on opposite sides of Mars. The golf cart-size rovers were designed to operate as geologists for just three months, after bouncing onto our planetary neighbor inside cushioning air bags in Jan 2004.

To us Masi is a month of religious significance.  It is the month when we take bath in holy rivers and Oceans.  In this month comes Masi maham ~ at Thiruvallikkeni on Tues – 19^th Feb 2019, Sri Parthasarathi in Garuda Sevai will come to Bay of Bengal – Masi magam. 

இன்று மாசி  மாதப் பிறப்பு.  திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்ய தேசத்தில் முக்கிய உத்சவங்கள் தவிர பல  நாட்களிலும்  பெருமாள் புறப்பாடு உண்டு. பஞ்சபர்வம் எனும் : மாசப்பிறப்பு, பௌர்ணமி, அமாவாசை, மற்றும் ஏகாதசி (2) நாட்களில் ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் புறப்பாடு கண்டு அருள்கிறார். இன்று ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி எம்பெருமான் சிறிய மாட வீதி புறப்பட்டு கண்டு அருளினார்.

இன்றைய கோஷ்டியில் ஸ்ரீ பேயாழ்வாரின் மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி சேவிக்கப்பெற்றது.  பேயாழ்வாரின் பக்தி சுரக்கும் வார்த்தைகளில் இங்கே ஒரு பாசுரம் :

மருந்தும் பொருளும் அமுதமும் தானே,*

திருந்திய செங்கண்மாலாங்கே, - பொருந்தியும்

நின்றுலகமுண்டுமிழ்ந்தும் நீரேற்றும் மூவடியால்,

அன்றுலகம் தாயோன் அடி.

For us, the lotus(red) eyed Sriman Narayana Himself is the medicine; its innate healing power; the Sweet Nectar – the power of wellbeing as well.  He is one who made the Universe, swallowed, remade,  and went on to measure it, by seeking a gift of three feet of land …..  and to Him we offer obeisance.
