From time
immemorial, our culture is intrinsically mingled with temples which are the
torch bearers of our glorious heritage – the hindu way of life. Obeisance to
God, Acharyas and those involved in temple work is our primordial duty. Kanchipuram has been the repository of many
magnificent temples. There are several big temples and for Sri Vaishnavaites
“Perumal Kovil” would mean the temple of Lord Devarajar – Athigiri
Arulalar. Legend has it that Brahma
performed Asvamedha yaga at mokshapuri i.e., Kanchi and Lord Vishnu emerged out
of the fire with Sanku Chakram. It is believed that the annual Uthsavam was
initiated by Brahma himself. Indira’s white elephant Iravatham took the form of
a hill called Hastigiri on which shrine of Varadharajar is located. This Swami
is known by various names, prominent among them being : Devarajar,
Devathirajar, Thepperumal, Varadhar, PerArulalar …
In this
Kaliyuga, Thirukachi Arulalar directly conversed with Acharyan Thirukachi
Nambigal … and centuries later, Sri Devathirajar had direct interaction with
our Doddacharyar Swami too. The most
famous amongst the brahmothsavam is
the Garuda Sevai – at Thirukachi, Lord Devapperumal is taken in procession on
vahanam of Garuda also known as Periya Thiruvadi.

22nd Aug 2016 – Maha
Samprokshanam was performed at
Thiruvallikkeni for the shrines of Shri Azhagiya Singar [Yoga Narasimhar]; Sri
Varadha Rajar; Thirumazhisai Alwar and Sri Anjaneyar at East Tank Sq. St. The
consecration was performed as per the Vaikhanasa Agama and thousands of
devotees assembled to worship the consecration, have darshan of the new looking
Vimanas and Gopurams.
At Thiruvallikkeni, in a rare form, the moolavar Sri
Varadharajar is in Garuda vahanam ~ the one who readily flew on Periya
Thiruvadi to save His baktha, Gajendra, the elephant, upon caught by a
crocodile. On Samprokshanam day, in the
evening around 05.30 pm, there was grand purappadu of Sri Varadharajar in
Punniyakodi vimana chapparam. Here are
