6th day of Udayavar Uthsavam - Vellai Sarruppadi

"தஸ்மை ராமானுஜார்யாய நம: பரமயோகினே" ~ we fall at the feet of the Greatest of Acharyas who is hailed as the King of all Sages.   The annual Uthsavam of Emperumanar (Udayavar / Ramanujar] is set to culminate on 24^th April 2015  [Chithirai 11] which  is ‘Chithiraiyil seiya Thiruvadirai’  [Thiruvadhirai Nakshathiram in the Tamil month of Chithirai].

Today , is the 6^th  day of the Uthsavam  and in the morning,  Sri Ramanujar as seen in the photo above -  gives darshan astride a horse adorning  pure white silk dress.  Confounding !!!! ….  Swami Ramanujar is a sanyasi – in fact named Ethirajar (Yathi Rajar) ~  the Emperor of all saints.  How and why white dress being worn by a Sanyasi !!!  

The 6^th day celebration is known as  “Vellai Sathupadi” a symbolic tradition when our Great Acharyar dons white garment and is seen without tridandam.  Symbolic of the travail and travel that Ramanujar had to undertake donning the dress of a ‘grahastha’ instead of his reverred kashaya.   History has it that Chozha king Kulothunga  ordered Acharyar to subscribe to the view of prevalence of Shiva;  Kuresar donned the orange robes of Sanyasi, visited the court of the King and had his eyes plucked out; Periya Nambi lost his life.. !

Swami Emperumanar travelled along the course of river Kaveri, went out of Cholanadu adorning white dress and went places,  reached Thondanur, where he constructed a huge lake; thence reached Melukote (Thirunarayanapuram) in Mandya district,where he performed many religious discourses and brought in disciplined ways of temple management.    More was to happen as Udayavar travelled to Delhi to the Court of Delhi sultan where the uthsava vigraham of "Ramapriyan" had been taken by the muslim ruler. The vigraham when invited by Udayavar walked on its own and sat on the lap of Udayavar.

Marking this, on sixth day of Udayavar Uthsavam - Emperumanar  alights Kuthirai vahanam donning white silk. At Sriperumpudur, his Delhi visit symbolises visit to a place on way to Kanchi. Similar festivity takes place at Triplicane also.

By some historical accounts, these events took place at his ripe age around 80.  For those who fall at the feet of Udayavar and who takes care of the disciples of Udayavar, there would never be any hardship.

ஆழ்வார்கள் தாங்கள் அவதரித்த நாட்களிலும் 'வாழ்வான நாள் ஆன' - 'சித்திரையில் செய்ய திருவாதிரை' வரும் 24.04.2015   அன்று "எம்பெருமானார் உத்சவ சாற்றுமுறை" .    20.04.2015  - இன்று உடையவர் உத்சவத்தில் ஆறாவது நாள். காலை எம்பெருமானார் அழகாக வெள்ளை பட்டு அணிந்து புறப்பாடு  கண்டு அருளுகிறார். யதிகளுக்கெல்லாம் இறைவனான எம்பெருமானார் வெள்ளை பட்டு உடுத்துவதா ?

காரேய் கருணை இராமானுஜருக்கும் ஸ்ரீ வைஷ்ணவத்துக்கும் ஆயிர ஆண்டுகள் முன் நடந்த துயர நிகழ்ச்சி தான் இதற்கு காரணம். வைணவம் திக்கெட்டும் பரவி, அரங்கன் புகழ் அனைவரும் பாடி,  அடியார்கள் பெருகி வாழ அரங்கநகர் வளர்ந்த அக்கால கட்டத்தில்,  ஒரு பெருந்துன்பம் ஏற்பட்டது .  சோழமண்டலத்தில் கங்கை கொண்ட சோழபுரத்தினை தலைநகராகக் கொண்டு வைணவத்வேஷம் கொண்டு "குலோத்துங்க சோழன்" என்னும் மன்னன் ‘சிவாத் பரதரம் நாஸ்தி’ (சிவனுக்கு மேலான தெய்வமில்லை) என்று அனைத்து மதத்தினைச் சார்ந்தவர்களையும் - ஏதேனும் ஒரு உபாயத்தினை பின்பற்றியோ அல்லது  வலுக்கட்டாயப் படுத்தியோ, நிலைநாட்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.

வைணவத்தின் தலைவராகயிருக்கும் இராமானுஜர் ஒப்புக்கொண்டாலேயொழிய தாங்கள் நினைப்பதை சாதிக்கவியலாது என்று வெறிகொண்ட மன்னன் திருவரங்கத்திற்கு தன் ஆட்களை அனுப்பி இராமானுஜரை அழைத்துவர ஏற்பாடுகளைச் செய்தான்.  இராமானுஜர் சோழ மன்னனின் சபைக்குச் சென்றால் தீங்கு நிச்சயம் என்று கூரத்தாழ்வான் ஆழ்வான் மற்றும் சீடர்கள் உணர்ந்ததால், வட திருக் காவேரிக்கு நீராட சென்று இருந்த உடையவரது காஷாயத்தினை ஆழ்வான் தரித்து உடையவருக்கு வெள்ளை அங்கி அணிவித்து பத்திரமாக எழுந்துஅருள ஏற்பாடு பண்ணினார்.

வெள்ளை ஆடைகளை அணிந்து எம்பார், முதலியாண்டான், நடாதூராழ்வான், பிள்ளான், வடுகநம்பி, கிடாம்பியாச்சான், வில்லிதாஸன் போன்ற அந்தரங்கமான சீடர்களுடன்  காவிரிக்கரை ஓரமாகவே மேல் திசை நோக்கி பயணித்தார்.  தொண்டனூர் சேர்ந்த உடையவர் அங்கே வைணவத்தை ஸ்தாபித்து, ஒரு மிகப் பெரிய ஏரியை நிர்மாணித்தார்.   உடையவர் மைசூர் மேல்கோட்டை திருநாரயணபுரம் அடைந்து அங்கே பல திருப்பணிகள் செய்வித்தார். திருக்கோவில் நிர்வாகத்தை சீர் செய்து நிலையான ஏற்பாடுகள் பல செய்தார்.  அவ்வூர்  உற்சவ விக்கிரகமான ராமப்ரியர் டெல்லி மன்னரிடம் இருப்பது அறிந்து அங்கு யாத்திரையாக  சென்றார். டெல்லி மன்னனோ, ‘‘என் மகளின் விளையாட்டுப் பொருளாக உள்ள அந்த பொம்மையைக் கேட்கிறீர்களா? முடிந்தால் அழைத்துச் செல்லுங்கள்..’’ என கூற, ராமானுஜரோ கண்களில் நீர் சுரக்க, ‘‘என் செல்வப் பிள்ளாய் வாராய்..’’ என கனிவுடன் அழைக்க, கலகலவென சலங்கை ஒலிக்க பாதுஷா மகளின் மடியில் இருந்த ராமப்ரியர் (விக்கிரகம்) ஓடோடி வந்து ராமானுஜர் மடியில் அமர்ந்தாரம்.

இப்படியாக பல சிறப்புகள் கொண்ட நம் சுவாமி  எம்பெருமானார் மேலே  பயணித்த ஆச்சர்யம் உத்சவத்தில் ஆறாம் நாள் அன்று  கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.  இதுவே வெள்ளை சாற்றுப்படி என கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.   பல்கலையோர் தாம் மன்ன வந்த இராமானுஜன் சரணாரவிந்தம் நாம் மன்னி வாழ, நெஞ்சே சொல்லுவோம், அவன் நாமங்களே !!" ராமானுஜோ விஜயதே - யதிராஜ ராஜ :"

ஆழ்வார் எம்பெருமானார் திருவடிகளே சரணம் -

நம் இராமானுஜன் திருவடிகளே சரணம்.
