Today 5th
Jan 2014 is 21st day of
Margazhi….. Pagal pathu uthsavam is on
in all divyadesams and today is 5th day of Uthsavam whence Muthaliyiram
sarrumurai took place. Tomorrow at
Thiruvallikkeni – it will be Thirumozhi thuvakkam and with rendering of sthala
pasuram ‘Virperu Vizhavum’ – the screens will be open and one can have darshan
of Moolavar Lord Sri Venkata Krishnan sans His trademark moustache………… Lord
Krishna, (as the charioteer to Arjuna) who kept his vow of not fighting in
Mahabaratha with arms is worshipped at Thiruvallikkeni as the ‘warrior King
sporting a big moustache’…. From Vaikunda Ekadasi, which falls on 11th
Jan 2014 and which heralds the starting the Rapathu Uthsavam, Lord will be seen
again with the moustache…………
Today also marks the 1st day of ‘Andal
Neeratta Uthsavam’ … Andal’s Thiruppavai contains ocean of values including
significance of Naama sankeerthanam to
Sriman Narayana. The Saint Poetess
observed Paavai Nonbu (vratham) to attain Lord Krishna. The month chosen for the vratham was Margazhi
also known as Dhanur Masam. She was on
vratham throughout the month and the month of Margazhi got lot of significance
because of Andal. In the month of Margazhi, there is the Nine day festival for
Andal known as Neeratta Uthsavam. Daily
morning there will be veedhi purappadu of Andal signifying her preparation for
the neerattam. After the purappadu,
Andal will have ‘Thirumanjanam’ at the Neeratta mandapam which is just opposite
to the Thiruther.
