Dactyly, Claws, Talons .. .. .. and Sri Narasimha !! : அவுணன் அவன் மார்வு அகலம் உகிரால் வகிர் ஆக முனிந்து

In 1979, the World Class Championship Wrestling company (WCCW) is owned by retired professional wrestler Fritz Von Erich, who once dreamed of winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship. Fritz has five sons with his wife Doris,  two of them  Kevin and David,  both wrestle in WCCW, Kerry, an aspiring discus thrower, and Mike, an aspiring musician.  .. .. ..

 

In biology, dactyly is the arrangement of digits (fingers and toes) on the hands, feet, or sometimes wings of a tetrapod animal. It comes from the Greek word dáktylos = "finger". .. ..  and  fingers have nails, which is the subject matter of this post. 

A claw is a curved, pointed appendage found at the end of a toe or finger in most amniotes (mammals, reptiles, birds). The pincers of crabs, lobsters and scorpions, more formally known as their chelae, are sometimes called claws. A true claw is made of a hard protein called keratin. Claws are used to catch and hold prey in carnivorous mammals such as cats and dogs, but may also be used for such purposes as digging, climbing trees, self-defense and grooming, in those and other species. 

A talon is a large, hooked claw. Although talons are usually associated with eagles, hawks and other birds of prey, you can also use the word to describe the flesh-tearing claws or fingernails of raptors, werewolves or even enraged preschoolers. Talons typically belong to predators — the word implies bloody attack. 

All carnivorans have claws, which vary considerably in length and shape. Claws grow out of the third phalanges of the paws and are made of keratin. Many predatory mammals have protractile claws that can partially hide inside the animal's paw, especially the cat family, Felidae, almost all of whose members have fully protractible claws. Outside of the cat family, retractable claws are found only in certain species. A claw that is retractable is protected from wear and tear.  A nail is homologous to a claw but is flatter and has a curved edge instead of a point. A nail that is big enough to bear weight is called a "hoof". 

Kandavanam, the forest belonging to Indra the king of gods, was being consumed by a terrible forest fire. In his very presence our Lord angrily swallowed the fire. He waged a terrible war to rid the Earth of its burden. He came as a Lion-Man  and tore apart the chest of Hiranya. He came as a manikin and grew to cover the Earth. Tiruneermalai is His great hill abode, says our Thirumangai mannan in his Thirumozhi mangalasasana pasuram.

இரணியாசுரனுடைய  அகன்ற மார்பை,  அங்கேயே தூணில் இருந்து வெளிப்பட்டு, தம் பக்தனை காப்பாற்றுவதற்க்காக - உகிரால் அதாவது, தம் திருக்கை நகங்களாலே, (வகிர் ஆக)  இரு பிளவாகும் படி பிளந்து,  நரசிங்கமாய் வளர்ந்திட்டவனும்,  குறள் உருவாக, முன்னொருநாள்  வாமநாவதாரஞ் செய்து திரிவிக்கிரமனாய் வளர்ந்தவனுமான பெருமானுக்கு உகந்த இடம் - மாமலையாம் திருநீர்மலை என்கிறார் கலியன்.

 

Here is a beautiful depiction of slaying of Hiranyasura by Lord Narasimha as seen in the vimanam of a beautiful temple known as chinna Bhadradri (little Bhadrachalam) – Sri Kothandarama Swami temple in Gollala Mamidada in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh.  The place is on the banks of Tulyabhaga (Antharvahini), a tributary of Godavari.

The starting para is the plot of 2023 movie ‘Iron Claw’   written and directed by Sean Durkin about the Von Erichs, a family of professional wrestlers who are "cursed" by constant tragedy. The film depicts the struggles of wrestling company owner Fritz Von Erich's sons to achieve the success their father groomed them for, from 1979 to the early 1990s–resulting in more tragedy.
