purpose of knowledge !! ~ தெருடன்மேல் கண்டாய் தெளி

 

ஸ்ரீமன் நாரணனே நமக்கு என்றென்றும் அழியாத நிதி. அவன் திருவடி நீழலில் உள்ளோர்க்கு எந்த தீங்கும் நடக்காது என்பது திண்ணம்.  இதை உணர்வது அறிவு - மெய்ஞ்ஞானம்.   

The purpose of life is realization, gaining knowledge – wisdom ! ~ is that right ? – from our childhood we were directed into believing that ‘knowing things’ – knowing them fully well – or rather reproducing what we read, formed the basis of education.  Scoring good marks was considered the greatest trait ! – now knowledge is available everywhere – at a phone touch literally or even if you don’t touch knowledge flows in WA groups, FB posts, Tweets and more !! – so what is life’s purpose about ?  

Many a times, knowledge does not add any further value !  - Cameron Bancroft has reignited debate about the ball-tampering scandal, claiming Australia’s bowlers’ knowledge of the sandpaper plot is “self-explanatory”. Cricket Australia (CA) and its national men’s side were plunged into crisis in 2018, when broadcast cameras captured Bancroft using sandpaper on the ball before stuffing the evidence down his pants during a Test in Cape Town. Bancroft was issued a nine-month ban by CA for his role in the incident, while skipper Steve Smith and vice-captain David Warner were stripped of their leadership titles and given year-long suspensions.  .. .. now what will Cricket Australia do ? – can the clock be rolled back ? ? ?

Back home in Chennai, Covid is fervently on the rise. Today, Sunday is supposedly complete lockdown – but .. .. all precautions for maintaining social distancing and Covid-19 protocol were tossed aside as hundreds of people queued up shoulder-to-shoulder to buy Remdesivir at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium yesterday. Day 1 of Remdesivir's sale at the stadium saw people gathering in large numbers to procure the antiviral drug for their loved ones.  

Knowledge is a familiarity, awareness, or understanding of someone or something, such as facts (descriptive knowledge), skills (procedural knowledge), or objects (acquaintance knowledge). By most accounts, knowledge can be acquired in many different ways and from many sources.  The philosophical study of knowledge is called epistemology. The term "knowledge" can refer to a theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.  The philosopher Plato famously pointed out the need for a distinction between knowledge and true belief in the Theaetetus, leading many to attribute to him a definition of knowledge as "justified true belief”. 

The world is affected  by Covid and it is common knowledge that one must gets vaccinated – yet in America, India and everywhere a good % still do not want any  coronavirus vaccine. Simply sharing information hasn’t worked. For years, scientists and doctors have treated vaccine skepticism as a knowledge problem. If patients were hesitant to get vaccinated, the thinking went, they simply needed more information. But as public health officials now work to convince people to get Covid-19 vaccines as quickly as possible, new social science research suggests that a set of deeply held beliefs is at the heart of many people’s resistance, complicating efforts to bring the coronavirus pandemic under control.

Remdesivir, is a broad-spectrum antiviral medication,  administered via injection into a vein. During the COVID-19 pandemic, remdesivir was approved or authorized for emergency use to treat COVID 19 in around 50 countries. Remdesivir was originally developed to treat hepatitis C, and was subsequently investigated for Ebola virus disease and Marburg virus infections- saw a video where Health Minister described that for severely affected patients, it was likened to injecting ‘ordinary water’ – is that common knowledge !!

 

தெருடன்  என்ற சொல் பேயாழ்வாரின் மூன்றாம் திருவந்தாதி பாசுரத்தில் ஈற்று வரியில் வருகிறது.  தெருடன் என்பதற்கு அர்த்தம் காண இயலாது.  இது தெருள் என்ற வினைச்சொல்லின் மருவு.

தெருள்(வி):  தெரிந்துகொள்; உணர்வுறு ; நன்கு புரிந்துகொள்; தெளி; தெளிவு பெறு; ஐயமற அறி !!

'தெருடன் மேல் கண்டாய்;' என்பதை தெருள்தன் மேல்கண்டாய் - என உணர வேண்டும்.  –‘தெருள்‘ என்று ஜ்ஞானத்திற்குப் பெயர், ‘கர்மஜ்ஞாந பக்திப்ரபத்திகள்‘ என்ற அடுக்கிலும் ‘பரபக்தி பரஜ்ஞாந பரமபக்திகள்‘ என்ற அடுக்கிலும் ஜ்ஞாநத்திற்கு மேற்படியாக பக்தி சொல்லப்பட்டிருப்பதால், இங்கே தெருள்தன்மேல் என்றது பக்தியைச் சொன்னபடியாய், அவனது திருவடிகளை பக்திக்கு விஷயமாக்கு என்றதாம்.  எம்பெருமான் கழல் கண்டாய் ! - திருவடிகளையே  அடையப்பெற்றாய் -  இனிமேல் கலக்கம் நீக்கித் தெளிந்திரு என்பதாக உரைக்கலாம்

 

பொலிந்திருண்ட கார்வானில் மின்னேபோல் தோன்றி,

மலிந்து திருவிருந்த மார்வன், - பொலிந்த

கருடன்மேல் கொண்ட கரியான் கழலே,

தெருடன்மேல் கண்டாய் தெளி. 

Sriman Narayana appears riding on the mighty Garuda – to  Thirumylai Peyazhwar -  it is akin to  a glorious dark raincloud lit by a lightning, the most merciful Saviour of the Universe – Emperuman with lotus dame Sri Mahalakshmi on his chest – provides darshan seated on Periya thiruvadi Garuda. He ordains his heart, that having seen Emperuman’s  feet  through knowledge,  asks Heart to rise and understand the greatness of eternal Saviour Sriman Narayana.  

At Thiruvallikkeni divaydesam – for Sri Parthasarathi & Sri Azhagiya Singar brahmothsavam – day 3 morning would be the majestic Garuda vahanam.     Here are some photos of Sri Azhagiya Singar Garuda sevai on 7^th July 2006 [yes 15 years ago!]. People were younger, happier .. .. praying Emperuman to restore to those good olden days of good health, good frame of mind, and happiness.
