Years roll by ! - Kainkaryabarargal only continue their kainkaryam !!

Triplicane is a wonderland ! – a divine place – and for many life revolves around Sri Parthasarathi swami thirukkovil !!  you may even skip all the contents below and jump to the final para – for that is the essence of this pic post.  Youth and kainkaryam at Thiruvallikkeni.  .. ..  what do modern  youth generally do ?

When writing a work of fiction, most authors take the reader out of the present story jumping to  an earlier time period in a character’s life. This narrative tool is called a flashback, a technique extensively used in films and serials.

Citizen Kane   directed by, produced by, and starring Orson Welles hit the screens in 1941. Welles and Herman J. Mankiewicz wrote the screenplay. The picture was Welles's first feature film.  It is often cited as   the greatest film ever made.  For 40 years (5 decennial polls: 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002), it stood at number 1 in the British Film Institute's Sight & Sound decennial poll of critics,  and it topped the American Film Institute's 100 Years ... 100 Movies list in 1998, as well as its 2007 update. The film was nominated for Academy Awards in nine categories and it won for Best Writing (Original Screenplay) by Mankiewicz and Welles

Analepsis is a literary device in narrative, in which a past event is narrated at a point later than its chronological place in a story. A form of anachrony by which some of the events of a story are related at a point in the narrative after later story‐events have already been recounted. Commonly referred to as retrospection or flashback, analepsis enables a storyteller to fill in background information about characters and events. A narrative that begins in medias res will include an analeptic account of events preceding the point at which the tale began.

A flashback is an interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point in the story.   In film, flashbacks depict the subjective experience of a character by showing a memory of a previous event and they are often used to "resolve an enigma".  Some of the camera techniques include – deliberately blurring the edges of the pic, jarred or choppy photos   or unusual coloration or sepia tone, or monochrome when most of the story is in full color, is used. The scene may fade or dissolve, often with the camera focused on the face of the character and there is typically a voice-over by a narrator too.

One of the most famous examples of a flashback is in the Orson Welles' film Citizen Kane (1941). The protagonist, Charles Foster Kane, dies at the beginning, uttering the word Rosebud. The remainder of the film is framed by a reporter's interviewing Kane's friends and associates, in a futile effort to discover what the word meant to Kane. As the interviews proceed, pieces of Kane's life unfold in flashback, but Welles' use of such unconventional flashbacks  !!!

A narrative work beginning in medias res ( lit. "into the middle of things") opens in the chronological middle of the plot, rather than at the beginning.   Shakespeare’s Hamlet begins after the death of Hamlet's father which is later discovered to have been a murder. Works that employ in medias res often later use flashback and nonlinear narrative for exposition to fill in the backstory.

The film begins ‘in medias res’, with a masked person being brought to the Central Jail in Chennai, India. When asked by a fellow-inmate for the reasons behind his imprisonment, the masked person replies that he is imprisoned for attempting to do good for the people. The masked person is revealed to be Sivaji  - with the story unwinding to a flashback of a software architect returning back to native land thinking of doing good to his land but ends up beaten by the system and corrupt people. The whole film talks about black money and its harmful effect – that was Rajnikant starrer – Sivaji- the boss.

Not any filmy post but post on Srivaishnava youths involved in kainkaryam unto HIM.  In the mystic holy land of Thiruvalikkeni -   for many life revolves around Sri Parthasarathi swami thirukkovil !!  3 photos here depict kids with Kutti Perumal and another some youngsters on the occasion of Sri Azhagiya Singar thiruther – all in 2016.  8 years have passed by, lots of things have happened. [these are random photos and not representative of all those kainkaryabarargal]

The good news is almost all these people seen in the photos are still active continuing their Sripadham and other kainkaryam to Emperuman Sri Parthasarathi.  Yes graduating from Kutti Perumal to the real Emperuman, Sripadham kainkaryam with flair in shouldering big heavy vahanams.  The real flavour in life for these youngsters and many hundreds more is doing kainkaryam to Emperuman.

Poliga, poliga, poliga, these youngsters and the rich Srivaishnava tradition.

Purattasi Punarvasu 2o24 ~ ē tīruga nanu daya chūchedavō

ఏ తీరుగ నను దయజూచెదవో ఇనవంశోత్తమ రామా

నాతరమా భవ సాగర మీదను నళినదళేక్షణ రామా

~is a beautiful composition on Sree Rama – heard this ! .. .. on 5.11.2021 we had the fortune of visiting this temple town and had very good darshan of Lord Sree Ramachandra murthi.  For sure Carnatic connoisseurs have hard "Paluke Bangaramayena",  one of the famous Telugu compositions by the 17th century composer and devotee of Lord Sri Rama, Bhadrachala Ramadasu. He is known to have composed hundreds such songs however the original music is lost.  Carnatic vocalist Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna set music to these songs in the 1950s and popularized them.

Sri Rama of Bhadrachalam is known as “Vaikunta Rama” as Emperuman has Conch  (Sankha) and Discuss (Chakra) in his hands.

Today 26th  Sept 2024 is Punarvasu nakshathiram in the month of Purattasi –  celebrating the birth of Sree Ramapiran, the masa thirunakshathiram of Sri Kulasekara Azhwar. Embar and Mudaliyandan.

Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding righteousness and rewarding virtue. Ramayana is the greatest Ithihasa detailing the life and journey of the immortal Perfect man’s adherence to dharma despite harsh tests of life and time. Lord Rama is the epitome of all virtues.  The telegu words at the start is of  a keerthana on Sree Rama by Baktha Ramadas :

ē tīruga nanu daya chūchedavō, ina vaśōttama   rāmā

nā taramā bhava sāgaramīdanu, naina daēksana  rāmā

Ramadasu prays and queries Rama - In what way will you show me your kindness, O great one of Surya dynasty ? Will it be possible for me to swim this ocean of worldly concerns, O lotus-eyed Rama! O son of Raghu clan! Sita’s consort! Protector of those that seek you! O Rama!  Abode of compassion! Boon-giver to your devotees! To see you is the real sight!

“Kancherla Gopanna (1620 - 1680)” – more famously known as Bhadradri Ramadasu or Bhadrachala Ramadasu.   His devotional lyrics to Rama are famous in South Indian classical music as Ramadaasu Keertanalu.  The place – Bhadrachalam is called Ayodhyapuri for its association with Ithihasa purana, Sree Ramayana.

Here are some photos taken during the siriya mada veethi purappadu of Sree Rama at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam on 26.9.2024, occasion being Purattasi Punarvasu

Purattasi Thiruvathirai 2024 - இராமானுசன் சீலமல்லால் .. .. ஒன்றறியேன் !!

The divine Sriperumpudur is in news for wrong reasons – heard of Echoor village ?

From 1910 to 1945, Korea was ruled as a part of the Empire of Japan under the name Chōsen.  Japan first took Korea into its sphere of influence during the late 1800s. Both Korea (Joseon) and Japan had been under policies of isolationism, with Joseon being a tributary state of Qing China. However, in 1854, Japan was forcefully opened by the United States in the Perry Expedition. It then rapidly modernized under the Meiji Restoration, while Joseon continued to resist foreign attempts to open it up. Japan eventually succeeded in opening Joseon with the unequal Japan–Korea Treaty of 1876.

Samsung Group is a South Korean multinational manufacturing conglomerate headquartered in Samsung Digital City, Suwon, South Korea.  It comprises numerous affiliated businesses, most of them united under the Samsung brand,  being the world's fifth-highest brand value.  Samsung was founded by Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a trading company. Over the next three decades, the group diversified into areas including food processing, textiles, insurance, securities, and retail. Samsung entered the electronics industry in the late 1960s and the construction and shipbuilding industries in the mid-1970s.  According to Samsung's founder, the meaning of the Korean hanja Samsung is three stars  -   something big, numerous and powerful,  while stars stands for everlasting or eternal.

It is not difficult to find the Samsung India workers’ protest site in Echoor. The trail of light blue uniform-shirts on either side of the main road leads you to the temporary shed set up on a vacant piece of land, around a kilometre away from Samsung India’s manufacturing unit, which primarily makes televisions, refrigerators and air conditioners. Of the 1,800 people employed at the unit, 1,300 are participating in the strike.  This month, many of these workers  have been protesting raising a series of demands that include reduced working hours and revised wages, chief among them, is the recognition of a CITU-backed union. The labour strike at Korean electronics giant Samsung's Sriperumbudur plant in Tamil Nadu is escalating and it poses a serious risk to the manufacturing ecosystem in the region, think tank GTRI said.  "If the strike at Samsung's Sriperumbudur plant is not resolved soon, India risks losing significant ground in its quest to become a global manufacturing powerhouse," the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said in a statement.

Strikes are not good !  - they throw down  the lives badly !  For Srivaishnavaites, life is blissful – today 25th Sept 2024 (Purattasi 9)  is the masa thirunakshathiram of our great Acaryar Swami Ramanujar.  ‘Ananthah sarasi dhere  Ramye  Bhoothapurivare’ – on the bank of Ananthasaras the temple pushkarini, is the temple of Sri Adhi Kesavar.   Boothapuri, better known now as Sri Perumpudur is the most divine place for us –  the place where our Greatest Acharyar “Emperumanaar, Bashyakarar” the reincarnation of Aadi Sesha and Sri Lakshmanar was born,  in the year 1017  to Kesava Somayaji and Gandhimathi.

It is indeed a good fortune – Thiruvarangathu Amuthanar in his Iramanusa Noorranthathi says – “I cannot understand this good fortune. My heart does not think of anything other than the extreme benevolence of Ramanuja.  He gave up the company of men who do not contemplate the lotus feet of the nectar-groves-surrounded-Arangam lord, and only sought the feet of the kuraiyalur king. Tirumangai Alvar”.

To all of us bonded to the feet of our greatest Acaryar Swami Ramanujar, it will always be good things – whatever be the tough times, let us fall at the holy feet of our Acaryar Swami Emperumanar and through Him reach the glorious Lord of Thiruvarangam.

This is not Moon but mother Earth !!  (pic credit – NASA - nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/imgcat) The crew of Apollo 17 took this photograph of Earth in December 1972 while their spacecraft was traveling between the Earth and the Moon. The orange-red deserts of Africa and Saudi Arabia stand in stark contrast to the deep blue of the oceans and the white of both clouds and snow-covered Antarctica.

The planet that we live known as Earth -  is the third planet from the Sun and the only astronomical object known to harbour life. This is enabled by Earth being an ocean world, the only one in the Solar System sustaining liquid surface water. Almost all of Earth's water is contained in its global ocean, covering 70.8% of Earth's crust. The remaining 29.2% of Earth's crust is land, most of which is located in the form of continental landmasses within Earth's land hemisphere. Most of Earth's land is somewhat humid and covered by vegetation, while large sheets of ice at Earth's polar deserts retain more water than Earth's groundwater, lakes, rivers and atmospheric water combined.

Jörð   is the personification of earth and a goddess in Norse mythology. She is the mother of the thunder god Thor and   partner of Odin. Jörð is attested in Danish history Gesta Danorum, composed in the 12th century by Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus. All of the planets, except for Earth, were named after Greek and Roman Gods and Godesses. The name Earth is an English/German name which simply means the ground.

Earth is the fifth largest planet in the solar system.  Though the sheer size of Earth in metaphorical terms is immeasurable to humanity, the planet's physical size can indeed be calculated.  Earth's widest point is the equator, which runs across the planet's center at zero degrees latitude. This is because Earth is not a perfect sphere; it has a prominence across its center called the equatorial bulge. According to NASA, Earth's radius at the equator is 3,963 miles (6,378 kilometers), while the radius at the poles is 3,950 miles (6,356 km).

Therefore, the diameter of Earth through its center is 7,926 miles (12,756 km). The equatorial circumference of Earth is 24,901 miles (40,075 km). Its diameter (the distance from one side to the other through Earth's center) is 7,926 miles (about 12,756 kilometers).

Today, scientists measure Earth by improving on a method developed by Greek polymath, Eratosthenes, around 250 B.C. Eratosthenes used trigonometry to determine the distance between Aswan and Alexandria by measuring the position of the sun at the same time in both locations. He used this calculation and basic geometry, building on Aristotle's earlier ideas, to calculate the circumference of Earth to within 1% accuracy — staggering for over 2,000 years ago!

This practice formed the basis of geodesy, the science of measuring Earth's size and fundamental properties, such as its geometric shape, its orientation in space, and its gravity field. Pythagoras (570-500 BC) and Aristotle (384-322 BC) had proposed that the Earth was a sphere.  Eratosthenes (276-194 BC) was working as chief librarian at the renowned library in Alexandria, Egypt. He stumbled across interesting reports detailing observations of the sun made by travelers from Syene (Aswan, Egypt). Eratosthenes realized the Sun had to be directly overhead Syene, or at its zenith, on solstice  day. He also knew the Sun was 7 degrees away from the zenith at Alexandria on the solstice (which happens to be about 1/50th of the circumference of a circle). Using simple geometry, Eratosthenes then showed that this implied that the distance from Alexandria to Syene was 1/50th of the Earth’s circumference.

learning photography at Thiruvallikkeni !!

I was impressed with this punchline of Robin Sharma in ‘Monk who sold his Ferari’ -  When the student is ready, the teacher appears.

Further read that this quote is attributed to  Lao Tzu - “When the student is ready the teacher will appear. When the student is truly ready... the teacher will disappear.”

This morning  master technician MA Parthasarathi had posted this – and this evening provided an opportunity to copy a similar frame, the copy, of course is nowhere near the original.

Dedicated to all Perumal photographers of Triplicane and everywhere else.

Thiruvallikkeni Gangaikondan Mantapam 2024

Most likely you have seen HIM -  Venkataramana Govindha – where ! ? ! [of course in Thiruvallikkeni]

Ans to Morning Q  :  It is ‘Gangaikondan Mantapam’   ~  though it is atop the building, somewhat obscure and hidden during festival times when pandal would be put up, many Triplicanites got it right.

This mandapam is immersed in antiquity – During  Brahmothsavam and many major purappadu, Emperuman halts here – on  Garuda Sevai (Chithirai brahmothsavam of Sri Parthasarathi & Aani brahmothsavam for Sri Azhagiya Singar) Perumal halts here for a couple of hours.

The thriving vegetable market of Triplicane gets its name from this Mantap – Gangaikondan Mantapam (colloq. Gangannamantap).

Purattasi Sanivaram 1 2024 ~ எந்தையேயென்றும் எம்பெருமானென்றும் !! கோவிந்தா, கோவிந்தா, கோவிந்தா

The tamil month of Purattasi has a pride of place.  Devotees throng  Vishnu temples, especially Tirupathi.  In this month, occurs the  annual Brahmothsavam at Tirupathi. It is also the month of ‘Navrathri’ festival.  This year, Navarathri festival starts from 3.10.24, 2.10 being Mahalaya Amavasai.   On every Saturday in this  month of Purattasi, there will be Periya maada veethi purappadu of Emperuman  Azhagiya Singar.   Today 21.9.2024  is  Sani varam 1.

In a conscious mind, what one should think !  - when you are alone, when you want to concentrate, when you want to think of one particular issue, many of us feel that mind wavers and unwanted, depressing thoughts run in te mind.  Some  unwanted thought or image gets stuck in your head!  We tend to ignore and move on, yet those thoughts keep  Usually  popping right back up.

You don’t want to have these sticky, uncomfortable thoughts. So why do they happen to you? They're called “intrusive thoughts,” and nearly everyone has them from time to time. They can range from random images to disturbing and violent ideas and when one gets  obsessed about them,  they can interrupt  day-to-day life, becoming  a sign of an underlying mental health problem.  Worrisome, threatening !!  find solace in Sriman Narayana !!

The ones described as unwanted thoughts above  – ‘intrusive thoughts!’. According to one global survey, 93% of participants reported having at least one intrusive thought over 3 months. This holds true for folks with or without a diagnosed mental health condition. They only become a problem when they interrupt your daily life or cause a lot of anxiety.

An intrusive thought is an unwelcome, involuntary thought, image, or unpleasant idea that may become an obsession, is upsetting or distressing, and can feel difficult to manage or eliminate.   Intrusive thoughts, urges, and images are of inappropriate things at inappropriate times, and generally have aggressive, sexual, or blasphemous themes.  Intrusive thoughts are often triggered by stress or anxiety. They may also be a short-term problem brought on by biological factors, such as hormonal imbalances.

Any life stressor, if big enough, can increase your risk of having intrusive thoughts. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one strategy that is often successful in helping people manage intrusive thoughts. The process may help you to shift some of your general thought patterns, which can enable you to better manage these thoughts when they do occur and might lessen their frequency. Intrusive thoughts can also be managed by addressing the underlying problem, such as anxiety, stress, or a personal history of trauma.

While one may be disturbed by intrusive thoughts, it is in their own mind to deal with it easily.  Move away from mundane and fretful thinking.  Think of the most benevolent Sriman Narayana.  Keep oneself engaged in kainkaryam in Temple and to bagavathas.  Understand that most intrusive thoughts are mere thoughts.  They are not red flagged anger that disturbs, bothers, when you move away – chant Hari namam – chant names of Thirupathi Balaji – Govindha, Hari Govindha, Gokula Nandana Govindha !!!

At Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, there would be 5 weeks of Purattasi Sani celebrations but this year,  the 3rd & 4th falling during Navrathri & Vijayadasami, there would be no purappadu of Sri Azhagiya Singar.  Today with huge expectations, Sri Thelliya Singar came out His gopura vasal around 0450 pm .. .. as HE came out – there was moonram thiruvanthathi goshti thuvakkam and it was drizzling very lightly.    Sri Azhagiya Singar had purappadu in fast pace without thattu samarpanai.  Here are some photos of the  purappadu.
