Masi Masapirappu Sri Parthasarathi Swami purappadu @ Thiruvallikkeni - 2023

Masi Masapirappu purappadu @ Thiruvallikkeni - 2023

Today 13th Feb 2023 is Masi masapirappu ~ the starting of the month of Masi and at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, Sri Parthasarathi Perumal had siriya mada veethi purappadu.

A month is a unit of time, used with calendars, which is approximately as long as a natural period related to the motion of the Moon; month and Moon are cognates. In historical linguistics, cognates or lexical cognates are sets of words in different languages that have been inherited in direct descent from an etymological ancestor in a common parent language.  The traditional concept arose with the cycle of Moon phases; such months (lunations) are synodic months and last approximately 29.53 days.  Various ancient Greek calendars began in most states of ancient Greece between Autumn and Winter except for the Attic calendar, which began in Summer.

The Greeks, as early as the time of Homer, appear to have been familiar with the division of the year into the twelve lunar months but no intercalary month Embolimos or day is then mentioned, with twelve months of 354 days. Independent of the division of a month into days, it was divided into periods according to the increase and decrease of the moon. Each of the city-states in ancient Greece had their own calendar that was based on the cycle of the moon, but also the various religious festivals that occurred throughout the year.

The Greeks considered each day of the month to be attributed to a different entity, such as the seventh day of each month being dedicated to Apollo.  Roman calendar was reformed several times, the last three enduring reforms during historical times. The last three reformed Roman calendars are called the Julian, Augustan, and Gregorian; all had the same number of days in their months. Despite other attempts, the names of the months after the Augustan calendar reform have persisted, and the number of days in each month (except February) have remained constant since before the Julian reform.

To us Masi is a month of religious significance.  It is the month when we take bath in holy rivers and Oceans.  In this month comes Masi maham ~ at Thiruvallikkeni on Tues – 7th Mar 2023 , Sri Parthasarathi in Garuda Sevai will come to Bay of Bengal – Masi magam. 20.2.2023 is Masi Amavasai from whence starts 7 day Theppothsavam followed by Sri Parthasarathi perumal thavanothsavam for 5 days and immediately on 7.3.23 comes Masi Magam, followed by Sri Varadhar, Sri Azhagiya Singar thavanothsavams.

For us, the lotus(red) eyed Sriman Narayana Himself is the medicine; its innate healing power; the Sweet Nectar – the power of wellbeing as well.  He is one who made the Universe, swallowed, remade,  and went on to measure it, by seeking a gift of three feet of land …..  and to Him we offer obeisance.
