celebrating Krishna - Sree Krushna Krupa sagaram !!!

Today 19.8.2022  (too) is celebrated as Krishnashtami – the birthday of Krishna .. a few thousands years ago, Lord was born in prison at Mathura (Vada Madurai) .. Mathura, Gokul, Vrindavan, Govardhan are not mere tirtha (holy places) but  Bhagavan’s own dhama (abode).   In his 125 years of life, BHagwan Sri Krishna made an indelible impression upon mankind’s collective consciousness—re-educating the world about devotion and dharma as well as the ultimate reality.

“Krishnath Param Kimapi Thathvam Aham Na Jaane  –   I know not of any other Truth beyond Krishna.”..   Wherever there is Krishna, the master of all mystics,   there will also certainly be opulence, victory, extraordinary power, and ultimate value education to mankind.  Sri Krishna – the very name sends a thrill of joy through one who has had even a passing glimpse of His greatness.  The name at once evokes memories of the divinely sweet child of Vrindavan, the blue boy clothed in pitambhara (golden yellow silks), crowned with peacock feathers and adorned with a garland of fresh flowers, the maddening beauty and love of Gopis, the stealer of hearts, the dispeller of sins, upholder of righteousness, protector of the humble and simple, and an ever-abiding friend to all those who sincerely seeks His companionship.

According to the legends, the idol worshipped at Guruvayur in Kerala itself  is more than 5000 years old and one does not need any historical records for that. In the 14th century Tamil literature 'Kokasandesam', references about a place called Kuruvayur is made. As early as 16th century (50 years after the Narayaneeyam was composed) many references are seen about Guruvayur. In ancient Dravidic, Kuruvai means sea, hence the village on the coast may be called Kuruvayur. But according to Prof. K V Krishna Iyer (eminent historian), the Brahmins had begun to come and settle at Kodungalloor during the period of Chandra Gupta Maurya ( 321-297 BC). Trikkunavay in the Guruvayur documents is the same as Thrikkanamathilakam or Mathilakam mentioned in the Dutch and British records.

From the time immemorial, India has been a spiritually enlightened country consecrated by Rishis and temples of worship. Holy places like Kashi and Rameswaram have magnificent Temples which, besides their spiritual significance, are noted for their antiquity and historical importance. The artistic excellence and the architectural specialities of Konark and Khajuraho are so indescribable that they always attract not only the pilgrims from within the country but also swarms of tourists from abroad.  At holy Guruvayur devotees worship Lord as Unni Kannan  ie., Bala Krishna.

Krishna kripa sagaram; krishna kripa sagaram

guruvayoopuram janimokshakaram; guruvayoopuram janimokshakaram

munijana vanditha murahara baalam .. .. muralee lolam mukura kapolam

most likely you have heard and love this song  Krishnakripasagaram, a  soulful rendition by K.Jesudoss. The song is entirely written in Sanskrit !   though it is from a movie. .. the whole movie has been shot in a bungalow of old times. They call it Kovilagam which seems to mean Temple. The family in the movie seems to be richer as well and has high  regards for arts, especially music.

Kuttan Thampuran is the son of Subhadra Thampuratti and Kochanyian Thampuran of the Maangaattu Kovilakam. Kuttan has suffered from epilepsy since his childhood. He is rough and violent in his character and is feared by all in the village. Haridas is his classmate despite being two years younger and develops a special bond with Kuttan from childhood.  Both Hari and Kuttan grow up to be unsuccessful in their respective lives, and Hari is criticized for this by his father Bhagavathar, who is a well-known classical singer but has himself not been financially successful. Hari has had a liking for music, but Bhagavathar discourages him from music and persuades him into a professional degree course.  .. .. Years later, an aging Thampuratti calls for Hari, who has grown up to be a well-known singer in India, to pay a visit to her. Hari's visit to the village and subsequent happenings form the rest of the story.

Sargam a Malayalam movie – a musical  written and directed by Hariharan and produced by his wife Bhavani Hariharan was released in 1992. The film featured Vineeth, Manoj K. Jayan, and Rambha (in her Malayalam film debut), while Nedumudi Venu, and few others  played supporting roles. This movie was a blockbuster and 3rd highest grossing movie of the year. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and three Kerala State Film Awards.  The song “Krishna Krupa sagaram’ swept all .. .. lyrics were by  Yusuf Ali Kechery to the music of Bombay Ravi, sung by Jesudoss yettan and KS Chitra.

The song means : the compassion of Bhagwan Sree Krishna is a mighty Ocean, the place where Brihaspathi and Vayudava constructed a glorious temple for Krishna.   Janimokshatharam, means  – releases from the endless cycle of birth and death.. .. read that  in the first Charanam all the names of Sriman Narayana  are written in Dwitiya Vibhakti, which signifies that the action is done to or towards something. The only verb in the charanam is (aham) Vande, which means I salute, and hence the devotee is saluting the (knowledgeable) one who is worshipped by all sages, the (fierce) one who slayed demons Mura and Madhu, the (gentle and beautiful) one who has bud like cheeks frequently touched by flute and long eyes resembling lotus petals, and the reclining one on the thousand headed snake.
