Very many centuries ago, descended on this earth, the
Greatest Maryada Purush, the epitome of all virtues, who showed to all human
beings on how to lead the life…. “Lord Sri Rama”.
Lord Rama descended on earth for the purpose of upholding
righteousness and rewarding virtue. The Greatest of Ithihasa
purana ‘Sri Ramayanam’ is the undiluted history of the Greatest Person who
descended on this Universe.. .. .. ~ and there is also the
great character – a warrior, mightily powerful, whose body was as hard as
a diamond, whose speed equalled those of fastest flying eagles, who possessed
great wisdom, who could organize a group of roaming ones, who can jump hundreds
of miles, yet who remained at the feet of his Master, totally committed
thinking of their welfare alone – unassuming, yet capable of telling the right
things at the right moment – that is Pavana Puthra Hanuman – Aanjaneya, who is
called ‘siriya thiruvadi’ – bearer of Lord Rama – who carried Rama on his
shoulders during the war in which the demon was killed.
The mighty Hanuman excelled in his role as emissary - Hanuman was destined to bigger deeds – of organizing an army comprising of monkeys in search of Sita, his great leap into the sea, crossing it and reaching the fortified Lanka; slaying wicked demon and meeting Sita at Ashoka vanam; sitting majestically before the King Ravana and burning the whole of Lanka ……… more than all these, the one role he relished most was carrying the ‘Ithihasa Purush’ on his shoulders and thus earning the title ‘Siriya Thiruvadi’ – the carrier of Lord Sri Rama.
One must keep the kind away from fear – and surrendering to Sriman Narayana, the Saviour is the easiest way. We fall at the feet of Sri Thelliya Singar emperuman and look to him to salvage us. At Thiruvallikkeni during the special Brahmothsavam for Azhagiya Singar day 5 today (24.3.2022) was hectic - morning was ‘Nachiyar thirukolam; in the evening pathi ulathal - Yoga Narasimha thirukolam and then the most majestic ‘Hanumantha’ vahanam !
The keerthana at the start – ‘Biduvenenayya Hanuma’ was written by Purandhara dhasar. Purandhara dasa, a follower of Madhwacharya lived in 15th century and composed many keerthanas, widely referred as Pitamaha of Carnatic music in Kannada and considered incarnation of Saint Naradha.
Born as Srinivasa nayaka, he was a wealthy merchant of gold, silver and jewellery but gave away all his material riches to become a Haridasa, a devotional singer who made the difficult Sanskrit tenets of Bhagavata Purana available to everyone in simple and melodious songs. He formulated the basic lessons of teaching Carnatic music by structuring graded exercises known as Svaravalis and Alankaras, he introduced the raga Mayamalavagowla as the first scale to be learnt by beginners in the field – a practice that is still followed today. Purandara Dasa is noted for composing Dasa Sahithya. Here is keerthana sung by Dr. Vidyabhushana
Aanjaneyar with all his might, always exhibited the rare qualities of kindness, humility, and deep attachment to Lord Rama. The selfless spirit of Hanuman was rewarded by Lord Ram by stating that ‘whenever I am remembered, people will remember you too.’ Imagine that glorious darshan of Sri Azhagiya Singar on Hanumantha vahanam – and for enjoying that, here are some photos from the Hanumantha vahana purappadu of Sri Azhagiya Singar at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam today.
