Karthigai Thirumoolam ... Swami Manavala Mamunigal masa thirunakshathiram 2o20

Today 18.11.2020 is Thiru Moola nakshathiram in the month of Karthigai – masa thirunakshathiram of  Great Acaryar Swami Manavala Mamunigal.

Mamunigal is fondly known as ‘Yatheendra Pravanar’ arising out of his irresistible attachment to the lotus feet of Sri Ramanujar [Yatheendrar].  Sri  Manavala Mamunigal is the incarnation of Adisesha.  He was born in Sikkil Kidaram in AD 1370.  At birth he was known as ‘Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Nayanaar’.  Later he was hailed in very many names such as ‘Yatheendra Pravanar’, Ramyajamathru, Saumyajamatru, Visada-Vak-Sikhamani,  Varayogi, Varavaramuni and more…..  

                               Manavala mamuni's devotion to Nammalvar, Ramanuja and to his own Acharya grew as he studied the Alwar's hymns and rahasya arthangals at Alwar Thirunagari.  He lived for 73 years on this earth performing many Kainkaryams  at Sri Rangam and undertook many pilgrimages to many  Sri Vaishnava Divyadesams spreading knowledge and bakthi culture.   His patent style was to elucidate the pramanams fully   ‘following the words of the Purvarcharyas without deviating a wee bit’.   He filled  his vyakhyana granthas with the words of purvAcharyas.  As followers of Mamunigals, duty thus is cast on us to understand the significance of preserving, maintaining, supporting and following the rituals and customs associated with all our traditional Temples.   

Of the many works, ‘Upadesa Rathinamalai’ is one which all of us should know and recite regularly.  There are 73 paasurams + thanian given  by Kovil Kandadai annan and another one rendered by Erumbiappa. His another magnum opus is - Thiruvaimozhi Noorranthathi, which presents essence of Nammazhvar’s Thiruvaimozhi in hundred sweet verses of poetry, with each verse capturing the essence of a decad (a decad comprises approximately ten songs). The literary structure of this work is worth an independent study in its own right. Mamunigal has set this in Venpa style, a metrical prosody comprising four lines; in every song he conveys the essence (tatparya) of a decad of Thiruvaimozhi, in every verse he extols Nammalwar by his various names and yet has striven to  keep the Anthathi style of  composition, thereby beginning each verse with the same word the previous verse ended with. A real classic !  

பத்துடை   அடியவர்க்கு எளியவன் ~  பிறர்களுக்கு அரிய வித்தகன் .. .. ஸ்வாமி நம்மாழ்வாரின் அற்புத வரிகள் - திருவாய்மொழி முதல் பத்து மூன்றாம் திருமொழி ..  எம்பெருமானுடைய ஸௌலப்யம் நன்கு விளங்கினது அவதாரங்களிலாதலால் அப்படிப்பட்ட அவதாரங்களுள்ளும் நீர்மைக்கு எல்லையான க்ருஷ்ணாவதாரத்திலே !.. .. எம்பெருமான் கோகுலத்தில் கிருஷ்ணனாய் வளர்ந்த வேளையில், பரத்வத்தோடு ஸமமாகச் சொல்லக் வடிய நிலைகளிற் செல்லாமல்  வீடுகள் புகுந்து வெண்ணை திருடி அகப்பட்டு,  உரலில் கட்டுண்டு, பக்கலில் உள்ளோர் ஏச, இப்படியும் ஒரு எளிமைக்குணமுண்டோவென்று  வாழ்ந்து காண்பித்தவர்.  அவர்தம் பக்கலில் சிறிதளவு  ஆசை வைத்தவர்களையும் விடாமல் காக்கும் உயர்ந்த குணத்தினன்.

இந்த பத்து பாசுரங்களின் சாராம்சமாய் நம் பெரியஜீயர் ஸ்வாமி மணவாள மாமுனிகள் அருளினை திருவாய்மொழி நூற்றந்தாதியின் மூன்றாவது பாசுரம் :  

பத்துடையோர்க்கு என்றும்   பரன் எளியனாம் பிறப்பால்*

முத்தி தரும் மாநிலத்தீர்! மூண்டவன் பால் *– பத்தி செய்யும்

என்றுரைத்த  மாறன்தன்   இன்சொல்லால் போம்*  நெடுகச்

சென்ற பிறப்பாம் அஞ்சிறை 

மயர்வற மதிநலம் அருளைப்பெற ஆழ்வார்களினால் பாசுரங்களினாலும், ஏனையோரால் பலவித உயர்ந்த திரவியங்கள், பழங்கள், சிறப்புகள் என படைக்கப்பெற்று வணங்கப்படும் எம்பெருமான் “ஸர்வேச்வரன் தன்னுடைய அடியவர்களால் எளிதில் அடையப்படுபவன்;  அவர்களுக்கு மிக அருகில் தானே வந்து அவர்களாக கடாக்ஷிப்பவன்;  தன்னுடைய அவதாரங்கள் மூலமாக அவர்களுக்கு மோக்ஷத்தை அளிப்பவன்; இந்தப் பெரிய உலகில் வாழ்பவர்களே! கனிந்த அன்புடன் அவனிடத்தில் பக்தி செய்யுங்கோள்” என்பதை அனுஸந்திப்பவர்களுக்கு, நெடுங்காலமாகத் தொடர்ந்து வரும் பிறவி என்னும் கட்டு விலகும். - என தெளிவாக உரைக்கின்றார் நமது மாமுனிகள்.
