Boomi Pooja for a grand Temple at Thiru Ayodhya Rama Janmasthan

From 2009, I have been posting on my blog tamil.sampspeak.blogspot.in [tamil.sampspeak.in] – religious posts – primarily of Thiruvallikkeni and other divyadesams laced with photos taken by me.  I have thus far made 1777 articles and today there is one more on Ayodhya Boomi Pooja.  A day of great significance – Nation’s Prime Minister and Chief Minister among other dignitaries offering pooja at Janmasthan and initiating boomi pooja for a very special temple at His Janmasthan.  “5th Aug 2020” will remain etched in golden letters in the annals of History of India.

On 9th Nov 2019, came a happy ending for all and more specially for the devouts in the Ayodhya case by the Supreme Court of India.  The Apex Court ordered the disputed land (2.77 acres) to be handed over to a trust (to be created by Government of India) to build the Ram Janmabhoomi (reverred as the birthplace of Hindu deity, Ram) temple.

The land in dispute, which was the subject matter of the suit formed part of the village of Kot Rama Chandra or, as it is otherwise called, Ramkot at Ayodhya, in Pargana Haveli Avadh, of Tehsil Sadar in the District of Faizabad. An old structure of a mosque existed at the site until 6 Dec 1992. The site has religious significance for the devotees of Lord Ram, as it is his Janmasthan.  From time immemorial, it has been referred as   ‘ Ram Janmabhumi or Ram Janmasthan.’ The Hindus assert that there existed at the disputed site an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Ram, which was demolished upon the conquest of the Indian sub-continent by Mughal Emperor Babur.  There has been litigation for centuries and decades earelir in 1950, a suit was instituted before the Civil Judge at Faizabad by a Hindu worshipper, Gopal Singh Visharad seeking a declaration that according to his religion and custom, he is entitled to offer prayers at the main Janmabhumi temple near the idols.

A suit was instituted in 1989 by a next friend on behalf of the deity (Bhagwan Shri Ram Virajman) and the birth-place of Lord Ram (Asthan Shri Ram Janmabhumi). The suit was  founded on the claim that the law recognizes both the idol and the birth-place as juridical entities. The claim is that the place ofbirth is sanctified as an object of worship, personifying the divine spirit of Lord Ram. Hence, like the idol (which the law recognises as a juridical entity), the place of birth of the deity is claimed to be a legal person, or as it is described in legal parlance, to possess a juridical status.  Thiru K Parasaran, learned Senior Counsel appeared on behalf of the 2nd plaintiff [for Lord Rama himself] contending that  that the second plaintiff is a juristic person. He submitted that in Hindu Law the concept of a juridical person is not limited to idols. According to Mr Parasaran, the relevant question is whether prayer is offered to the deity and not the form in which the deity appears. It was contended that ― Asthan Sri Ram Janam Bhoomi is an object of worship and personifies the spirit of the divine. The faith of the devotees regards the land   He urged that there is a distinction between: (i) the land being a deity; (ii) the land being the abode of a deity; and (iii) the land being the property of a deity. It was urged that in the present case, the land constituting the disputed site, is an object of worship and is itself the deity.

Thiruvallikkeni Sri Rama Piran

In Nov 2019, Supreme Court verdict was pronounced and we have rejoiced everyday peaking with the boomi pooja today.  To mark the laying of the foundation stone for a temple at Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi site, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji today (5.8.2020) unveiled the plaque of the temple and a commemorative postage stamp on 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir'. President of Ram Mandir Trust Mahant Nitya Gopal Das, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat were also present with him. PM Modiji, who arrived in Ayodhya earlier today, took part in the 'bhoomi pujan' at the Ram Janmabhoomi site.

The devotees, Jeeyars, Mahants and the special invitees sat around the havan fire maintaining social distancing norms while wearing masks in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Earlier today, PM Modi planted a 'parijat' sapling, a divine plant, in the temple premises, ahead of the foundation stone-laying of the Ram Temple. In Ayodhya, PM Modi's first halt was at Hanuman Garhi temple, marking the first-ever visit by any Prime Minister to this temple. He was the first Prime Minister to visit the Ram Janmabhoomi site. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Wednesday said the 'bhoomi pujan' for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya is a "golden occasion" that has come after years of struggle, fulfilling dreams of thousands who sacrificed their lives for the construction of the temple.

Today at the Janmasthan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the 'bhoomi pujan' of a Supreme Court-mandated Ram temple in Ayodhya, bringing to fruition the movement for building a glorious at the very same place ‘mandir wahi banayenge’!. After watching live telecast of the event, Rawat said, "The golden occasion has arrived after years of struggle. Thousands of people sacrificed their lives for the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya. Their dream is being fulfilled with the ground breaking ceremony of the temple." It will bring peace to the soul of thousands of people who sacrificed their lives for it, he said. Reminiscing about the movement in the 1980s, he said Rs 1.25 was collected as donation from every person and that people in Uttarakhand did not mind walking for miles uphill to bring stones to be used in the construction of the temple. He especially remembered the contributions of RSS Pracharak Moropant Ji Pingle, Ashok Singhal, Mahant Avaidyanath and the Kothari brothers. Rawat said he has spoken to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and will soon visit Ayodhya for a darshan of Lord Ram. Uttarakhand Governor Baby Rani Maurya also watched the live telecast of the programme and congratulated the prime minister describing it as the fulfilment of a big commitment. "All believers of the Hindu religion had dreamt of this day when the Ram temple in Ayodhya will be on its the way to becoming a reality," she said.

PM Modi congratulated the nation on the bhumi pujan for the Ayodhya Ram Temple. He said, "The entire country is celebrating today as a centuries-old wait has finally ended. For our Ram Lalla, who has been under a tent for a rather long time, a grand temple will be constructed now." He said, "During our freedom struggle, many generations had devoted their all to the cause. August 15 is the symbol of that sacrifice, that emotion. Similarly, for a Ram temple, generations have struggled and toiled for centuries The Ram temple movement involved, dedication, struggle, sacrifice."On behalf of the entire country, Modi paid his respects to all those who were part of this movement. He said, "Wherever they are, they are watching us, they are emotional, they are blessing everyone.

History in the form of books, belief and public records of unimpeachable authenticity establish indisputably that there was an ancient Temple of Maharaja Vikramaditya‘s time at Sri Rama Janma Bhumi, Ayodhya. That temple was destroyed partly and an attempt was made to raise a mosque thereat, by the force of arms, by Mir Baqi, a commander of Baber‘s hordes…In 1528 Babar came to Ayodhya and halted there for a week. He destroyed the ancient temple and on its site built a mosque, later known as Babar‘s mosque…

It has a long chequered history of almost 450 years of legal battle. The case before the Supreme Court was not a simple case - wealth of material emerged before the court during the course of the trial. The judgment of Justice Sudhir Agarwal in the High Court copiously tabulates the documentary exhibits of the parties during the course of trial comprising of 533 exhibits  categorized as : (i) Religious texts; (ii) Travelogues; (iii) Gazetteers; (iv) Translations of inscriptions on pillars; (v) Reports of Archaeological excavation; (vi) Photographs prior to demolition; and (vii) Details of artefacts found at the disputed site.

In Mar 2020,  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath   participated in a religious ceremony  to shift the idol of infant Lord Ram to a temporary structure in the Ram Janmabhoomi compound in Ayodhya till the construction of a Ram Temple.  The first phase of construction of the grand Ram temple  has commenced, Maryada Purushottam Prabhu sits on a new pedestal from Shri Ram Tripal, ‘Ram lulla’ having arrived to  a temporary structure near Manas Bhawan.  Sooner the construction would begin and we pray that before the next Sree Rama Navami, there would be a new grandiose temple at the Janam Sthan.

I had never been to Ayodhya and now am eagerly looking forward to a trip to the holy land of Ayodhya and worshipping Lord Rama at the very place he was born. Today our great PM waxed eloquence and quoted Kamban stating “காலம் தாழ, ஈண்டு, இனும் இருத்தி போலாம்'

the photo at the start and the one above are of Sree Ramachandra Murthi at Thiru Ayodhya in a temple known as “Ammaji mandir”.   Around 100 years earlier, there was a great person by name Yogi Parthasarathi Iyengar and his wife was Yogi Singamma. Sri Yogi Parthasarathi Iyengar in his wisdom created a press for re-publishing on paper edition,  the great granthams of our Vaishnavaite mahans and in this venture established a press and persons to take care known as -  “Saraswathi Bhandram Committee” – saraswathi bhandaram meaning ‘library / treasure house’ of the works of Goddess of Learning Saraswathi. He spent his fortune towards establishing this and on this place built a temple for Sri Nampillai as the rightful person to own this treasure house at what is known at Komutti bungalow at Thiruvallikkeni.   Yogi Singamma, a century ago, built a temple of Sri Rama at the historic Ayodhya, a typical South Indian type temple, which is popularly known as ‘Ammaji Mandir’.  This temple is being maintained by ‘Saraswathi Bhandaram Committee’ – being taken care of by Dr MA Venkatakrishnan Swami.  The photos  of Lord Sri Rama of Ammaji mandir   are  shared by MA Madhusudhanan.

Feeling happy and look forward to that day when we can have darshan of Lord Sree Rama at His Janmasthan at Ayodhya.
