Till a few months ago ! ~
life was normal, people lived happily without fear of spread of dreaded
disease. At Thiruvallikkeni there are
numerous occasions of Perumal purappadu – once a year Sri Parthasarathi Perumal
visits Eekkattuthangal and enroute He visits Thirumylai. .. .. and Thirumylai Peyalwar comes to
Thiruvallikkeni for mangalasasanam
.. [Sri Adhi Kesavar too visits
Thiruvallikkeni for vana bhojanam and have heard from elders that Thirumazhisai
Azhwar too had been visiting Thiruvallikkeni six or seven decades ago !]
Science or religion ! ~
often people pose this Q to simply show that they are rational thinking !
Research is normally a
plodding, tedious process. Scientists check and recheck their data; review and
re-review their conclusions; then submit their hard work to a scientific
journal for publication, where their peers put it through further scrutiny. Covid
just as any other viral pandemic has proven once again that many a times
diseases do not compulsorily adhere to their schedules and timelines. As
COVID-19 has raced across the globe, public-health experts, political
officials, doctors and patients scrambled to find answers about the disease.
Digital sites that posted manuscripts of scientific papers before peer review
have flourished since January, and editors of prestigious medical journals have
asked their peer reviewers to complete their analyses, traditionally done over
weeks, in just days.
That pressure to publish
is exposing the tension between the desire within the scientific community to
only release information once it has been fully vetted–a process that takes
weeks and months–and the urgent public need for actionable information in the
midst of a devastating pandemic. It’s not simply an academic matter for those
in the research community; increasingly, policymakers have turned to the
scientific process to guide their decisions–not to mention the doctors who
trust it for finding ways to treat their patients and save lives. In between in WA / FB and social media,
everyone became subject matter expert prescribing their
suggested remedies and reasoning out why it would not spread in certain areas !
The result is a
confusing and often contradictory set of messages from public-health experts. In June 2020, a World Health Organization expert declared
that COVID-19 spreading from people without any symptoms was “very rare,” then
admitted a day later that the conclusion was a “misunderstanding” and based on
only a few studies. The concern over asymptomatic spread is a major reason
behind social-distancing practices and advice for people to wear face masks in
public. Now comes another stunner. The World Health Organization on 7.7.20 acknowledged "evidence emerging" of
the airborne spread of the novel coronavirus, after a group of scientists urged
the global body to update its guidance on how the respiratory disease passes
between people. The WHO has previously said the virus that causes the COVID-19
respiratory disease spreads primarily through small droplets expelled from the
nose and mouth of an infected person that quickly sink to the ground.
The simple recipe
perhaps is – ‘be very careful’ – don’t venture out unnecessarily. Practice
social distancing, wash your hands with soap / detergent / sanitizer. Do not
have physical contact with people, try to keep good health, eat good food and
pray Emperuman, the great Saviour for happiness and normal living.

An interesting news read
is - Aavin has introduced five new milk products, including buttermilk
meant for increasing immunity, choco lassi, mango lassi, long-lasting
ultra-high temperature processed milk and Tea Mate milk. Chief minister
Edappadi K Palaniswami launched these products on Tuesday. A press release
stated that the buttermilk is meant for increasing the immunity of people which
will help them fight coronavirus. "The buttermilk comprises ginger, lemon,
holy basil, pepper, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, coriander leaves and
salt. It is available in 200ml bottles for Rs 23," the release said.
The Covid news continues
to be distraughtful. With a spike of over 20,00 cases, India's COVID-19
caseload inched towards eight lakh on Wednesday while 482 deaths were reported
in the last 24 hours. The total count of cases reached 7.42 lakh and the death
toll has gone up to 20,642. Meanwhile, in some positive development,
Mumbai recorded the lowest single-day figure in nearly two months as the number
of cases came down to 806, taking the tally to 86,132. In Dharavi too, only one
new case was reported. Southern Tamil
Nadu saw a spike in COVID-19 infections on Tuesday even as the spread of the
virus seemingly came under control in Chennai city, where 1203 cases were
detected on the day the State total stood at 3616 new cases and 65 deaths.
Just think of our
mindset, 1200 on a single day – makes Chennaites happy – for in the recent
past, it was hovering close to 2500 per day .. .. perhaps this could be the
result of 17 day intense lockdown – now from Monday (6.7.2020) – the intensity
is lowered and traffic is flowing high in the city – what to say !!
25th Sept
2019 was a significant day ~ Purattasi Ekadasi day. On all Ekadasis,
there will be periya maada veethi purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi Swami at
Thiruvallikkeni Divyadesam. Last year on this Ekadasi day – it was
special as Sri Peyalwar from Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal
Devasthanam visited Thiruvallikkeni. Later in the night, it rained pretty heavily and was wondering how
Thamizh thalaivan Sri Peyazhwar could have reached back his abode at
Thirumylai. Rains are not new and the Muthal azhwargal enjoyed ~ in
fact that was the very reason how we got those treasure-trove of thiruvanthathis. On
that beautiful rainy day at Thirukkovalur,
Sri Peyalwar in the company of Sri Poigai Alwar and Bootathalwar, lighting
with the Universe and love, had darshan of Emperuman.
Sri
Peyalwar was born in a well in Mylapore (thence known as Mylai
Thiruvallikkeni). His birthplace is in the present day Arundel
Street in Mylapore closer to Mylai Madhaava Perumal Kovil. At
Thiruvallikkeni, the road adjacent to Sri Parthasarathi Kovil houses a separate
sannathi (temple by itself) for Sri Peyalwar and the street is named after the
Azhwar and is known as ‘Peyazhwar kovil Street’.
Sri Adhi
Kesava Perumal Devasthanam better known as ‘Kesava Perumal Kovil’ is near Mylai
Kapaleeswarar Temple and the Chithirai kulam belongs to this Temple. Here are some photos of Thirumylai Sri
Peyalwar purappadu on 28.09.2008 .. contains
couple of photos of His Holiness Sri
Kaliyan Vanamamalai Jeeyar swami (the then peedathipathi).
