In the highest-ever
single-day rise of coronavirus cases in Mumbai, as many as 998 new infections
were detected, taking the tally to 16,579 on Thursday. 25 more patients
succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll in the financial capital beyond
the 600-mark. On the other hand, 70
cases were reported in Thane, 64 in Navi Mumbai, 21 in Mira Bhayander and six
in Kalyan-Dombivali. The Uddhav
Thackeray-led government announced that the lockdown in Mumbai, Pune and other
hotspots in the state will be extended up to May 31. The lockdown in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu
will most likely be extended till May 31 as the number of Covid-19 cases
continues to rise in both states. Tamil Nadu is likely to announce the
extension but with some more easing of norms.
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Madras High Court order of
May 8 to close all state-run liquor shops in Tamil Nadu, with immediate effect,
to enforce physical distancing amid the nationwide lockdown to rein in the
coronavirus outbreak. A bench of
Justices L Nageswara Rao, SK Kaul and BR Gavai heard the State government’s
contention that an indefinite closure of liquor shops would cause “grave”
revenue and business losses. In its petition, government firm Tamil Nadu State
Marketing Corporation, or TASMAC, accused the High Court of judicial overreach
while highlighting that the ban order was passed the very same day the Supreme
Court dismissed an identical call to close liquor shops across the country. The
Madras High Court had allowed online liquor sales and home delivery. Look up to

Given
clear skies and an unobstructed western horizon, the dazzling planet Venus –
and the planet Mercury, our sun’s innermost planet – will be yours to behold
after sunset from about mid-May 2020 until nearly the end of this month. Like
early explorers mapping the continents of our globe, astronomers are busy
charting the spiral structure of our galaxy, the Milky Way. Using infrared
images from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope, scientists have discovered that the
Milky Way's elegant spiral structure is dominated by just two arms wrapping off
the ends of a central bar of stars. Previously, our galaxy was thought to
possess four major arms.
Our
Sun (a star) and all the planets around it are part of a galaxy known as the
Milky Way Galaxy. A galaxy is a large group of stars, gas, and dust bound
together by gravity. The Milky Way is a
large barred spiral galaxy. All the stars we see in the night sky are in our
own Milky Way Galaxy. Our galaxy is called the Milky Way because it appears as
a milky band of light in the sky when you see it in a really dark area. The term Milky Way is a translation of the
Latin via lactea, from the Greek (galaxías kýklos, "milky circle"). Until
the early 1920s, most astronomers thought that the Milky Way contained all the
stars in the Universe. It is very difficult to count the number of
stars in the Milky Way from our position inside the galaxy. Our best estimates
tell us that the Milky Way is made up of approximately 100 billion stars. Just as the Earth goes around the Sun, the Sun
goes around the center of the Milky Way.

of Sabarimala Temple. It is played every night during the closing ceremony of
the temple. The Harivarasanam lyrics
were composed in 1950 and written by Kumbakudi Kulathur Iyer. After serving the
last meal or Athaza puja or panakam when the temple doors are about to close
Kulathur Iyer used to sing Harivarasanam daily to Lord Ayyappa. P. Subramaniam was an Indian film director,
producer, distributor, theatre owner, and mayor. He was the founder of
Merryland Studio (established in 1951), the second film studio in Kerala. There was another hit song in the film Swami
Aiyappa – Thiruparkadalil !

Lord reclining in the Ocean of Milk! O Lord Rama! O Lord whose name carries one
across (the ocean of Worldly Existence)! O Lord praised by this Thyagaraja –
why would you keep me in distress ? – you are the one who rushed to protect the
elephant Gajendra; you provided vasthram to Draupadi at her distress, you crossed
the Ocean for retrieving Seetha and killing demon Ravana – take care of me with
your compassion. Without going into fine musical details, as a
rudiment of music appreciation, when the
pallavi is sung, we would be swept by the mood, devotion and graphic description of Vishnu resting amid
the mildly turbulent waves of the Ocean of Milk.
The
greatest Ithihasa purana ‘Ramanaya’ – conveys the greatness of the one
incarcerated ie., Sita Mata. She was
forcibly taken away, kept in Ashokvana, guarded by rakshas, threatened and
troubled. Having heard the revolting
words of Rāvaṇa, the lord of
Rākshasas, Seetā mata, without her beloved by her, was distraught like a young
cow-elephant beset by a lion in the heart of the forest. Finding herself in the
midst of the Rākshasis and remembering the many threatening words of Rāvaṇa, the timorous Seetā cried like
a young girl abandoned in a desolate forest; she remarked to herself :
सत्यं बतेदं प्रवदन्ति लोके ; नाकालमृत्युर्भवतीति सन्तः ।
यत्राहमेवं परिभर्त्स्यमाना
; जीवामि दीना क्षणमप्यपुण्या ॥
ஸத்யம் பதேதம் ப்ரவதந்தி லோகே; நாகாலம்ருத்யுர்பவதீதி
ஸந்த: ।
யத்ராஹமேவம் பரிபர்த்ஸ்யமாநா ; ஜீவாமி

What
the wise men in this world said all along is, after all, true : - no one dies an untimely death; otherwise, why
would I, who has no Puṇya,
continue to live, in spite of all the impending threats?
Corona
or any other impending misfortunes, why fear them, when we can fall at the feet
of Lord Rama and pray to the ultimate Saviour of our souls. On 22.10.2016 it was Punarvasu nakshathiram
and at Thiruvallikkeni there was siriya
mada veethi purappadu at Thiruvallikkeni of Lord Sri Rama. Here are some photos taken during the
