The temple area, is known
for its leather tanneries on the way and quarries too – there was a report in
Indian Express that the construction debris from the Chennai Metro Rail’s sites
where work is going on is collected and dumped illegally on the waterbed in a
quarry at Thiruneermalai along the Chennai Bypass Road. The Thiruneermalai
quarry is one of the few structures in the city that still holds a good amount
of water. As a handful of lorries have
been depositing debris into the quarry’s waterbed on a daily basis for the past
many years, the accumulated debris
resembles a small mountain now. Residents recalled that before this menace
started, they used to drink stagnant rainwater from the quarry which had no
traces of pollution then.
This is no post on quarry
or anything else ~ a religious post on Brahmothsavam at Thiruneermalai divyadesam . it is Panguni Brahmothsavam of Sri Neervanna
Perumal. Thiruneermalai has a beautiful pushkarini and is in two
parts – one at the ground level and the other atop a small hill. The sannathi of Neervannar is at the base
along with his consort Animamalar Thayar and sannathies of Kalyana Ramar and
Andal. As one ascends 300 odd steps, one
can have great darshan of Lord Ranganathar (in reclining posture); Thiruvikramar; Lord Narasimha (in sitting
posture) - “நின்றானிருந்தான் கிடந்தான் நடந்தாற்கிடம் மாமலையாவது நீர்மலையே”
– in the words of Thirumangai Azhwar.
அன்றாயர் குலக்கொடியோடு * அணிமாமலர் மங்கையொடு
அன்பளவி* .. .. … நின்றான் இருந்தான் கிடந்தான்
நடந்தாற்கு இடம் * மாமலையாவது நீர்மலையே. எம்பெருமான்
ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனனுக்கு சிறப்பு கொண்ட இடம் எதுவென வினவின், அது, பரந்த சோலைகளாலே சூழப்பட்டு நல்ல தீர்த்தங்களையுடைய
தடாகங்களாலே விளங்குகின்ற இடமான மாமலை, சிறந்த
மலையான திருநீர்மலையாம்; என்கிறார்
திருமங்கை மன்னன்.
திருநீர்மலை ஒரு அற்புத திவ்யதேசம். பெரிய குளம் அருகே அமைந்துள்ள கோவிலும், மலைமேல்
மேலும் சன்னதிகளும் அமைந்துள்ளன. சிறியமலை
மேலேறிச் செல்ல படிக்கட்டுகள் வசதியாக இருக்கின்றன. அடிவாரக் கோவிலில் உள்ள மூலவர்
நீலமுகில் வண்ணன், நின்ற திருக்கோலத்தில், கிழக்கு நோக்கிச் சேவை சாதிக்கிறார். தாயார்
அணிமாமலர் மங்கை, தனிக்கோவில் நாச்சியாராக எழுந்தருளியிருக்கிறார். மலைமேல் சாந்த நரசிம்மன்,
வீற்றிருந்த திருக்கோலத்தில், கிழக்கு நோக்கியும், ரங்கநாதன், மாணிக்க சயனமாகத் தெற்கு
நோக்கியும், திருவிக்கிரமன் நின்ற திருக்கோலமாகக், கிழக்கு நோக்கியும் சேவை சாதிக்கிறார்கள். ஸ்தலாதிபதியான திரு நீர்வண்ணப்பெருமாளுக்கு 10
நாள் ப்ரஹ்மோத்சவம் பங்குனியில் நடைபெறுகிறது.
இன்று உத்சவத்தின் நான்காம் நாள் - அழகிய பல்லக்கில் நீர்வண்ணன் உபய நாச்சிமாருடன்
எழுந்து அருளினார்.

திருநெடுந்தாண்டகம்
“கார்வண்ணம் திருமேனி கண்ணும் வாயும்; கைத்தலமும் அடியிணையும் கமல வண்ணம்
பார்வண்ண மடமங்கை பத்தர் பித்தர்* பனிமலர்மேல்பாவைக்குப் பாவம் செயதேன்!
ஏர்வண்ணன் என்பதை என்சொல் கேளாள் * எம்பெருமான் திருவரங்கம் எங்கே என்னும்
நீர்வண்ணன் நீர்மலைக்கே போவேன் என்னும் * இதுவன்றோ நிறையழிந்தார் நிற்குமாறே”
பரகால நாயகியின் திருத்தாயார் தன் பெண்பிள்ளையின் வாய்வெருவுதல்களை
வரிசையாகச் சொல்லுகிற பாசுரத்தில் திருமங்கைமன்னன் - திருநீர்மலை திவ்யதேச பெருமாளை
மங்களாசாசனம் செய்கிறார். தாபத்ரயத்தினால்
தகர்ப்புண்டிருப்பார்க்கு நினைத்தமாத்திரத்தில், அதனை ஆற்றக்கடவதும் விரஹதாபத்தாலே
வருந்துவார்க்கு அதனைத் தணிக்க வல்லதுமான திருமேனியைப் பேசினபடி !! ~ என்னே அழகான வார்த்தை
சொல்லாடல் .. ..
“பாவியான என்னுடைய அழகியவடிவையுடைய பெண்ணானவள் என் வார்த்தையைக் கேட்கிறாளில்லை;
(எம்பெருமானது) திருமேனி காளமேக நிறத்து என்கிறாள்; (அவனது) திருக்கண்களும், திருவாயும்,
திருக்கைகளும், திருவடியிரண்டும் தாமரைப்பூப்போன்ற நிறமுடையன என்கின்றாள்; பார் வண்ணம்
மடமங்கை பத்தர் எனும் அதாவது (அவர்) பூமிப்பிராட்டி இட்ட வழக்காயிருப்பர் என்கின்றாள்;
பனி மலர் மேல் பாவைக்கு பித்தர் எனும் அதாவது குளிர்ந்த செந்தாமரைப் பூவிற் பிறந்த
பெரிய பிராட்டியார் விஷயத்தில் வியாமோஹங் கொண்டவர் என்கின்றாள்; என்னை அடிமைப்படுத்திக்
கொண்ட பெருமானுடைய திருவரங்கம் எங்குள்ளது? என்கின்றாள்; நீர்வண்ணப் பெருமாள் எழுந்தருளியிருக்கிற
திருநீர்மலைக்கே போகக்கடவேன் என்கின்றாள்; அடக்கமழியப் பெற்றவர்களின் நிலைமை இங்ஙனே
போலும்!” என பெண்ணைப்பெற்ற தாயார் புலம்புவதாக
நாயிகா பாவத்திலே இப்பாசுரம்.
In Thirunedunthandakam
pasuram Kaliyan exhibits Nayika bhavam and describes lamentation of the mother
upon seeing her daughter fully imbued towards Sriman Narayana. Kaliyan says - “My fair daughter does not
listen to me, I have sinned, She sings, “My dark hued Lord has eyes, lips,
hands feel like petals of lotus. He resides
in Srirangam”, “Where is it?” she inquires, then declares she is proceeding to
his abode in Tiruneermalai. Is this not
proof that she has lost her steadiness?”
Those of us who are
fortunate to have darshan of this most beautiful Lord Neervannar – (moolavar is
majestic Thiruvenkadamudaiyan Himself) – are certain to lose themselves upon
that wonderful darshan of Lord Neervannar and surrender ourselves totally at
His lotus feet seeing His divine darshan.
