Acetaminophen  leads to severe hepatic and renal necrosis and thus causes significant clinical problems. Artemisia pallens possesses various pharmacological properties such as antidiabetic, antioxidant, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory activity – & we know this herb ?

Recently read an article that the search is for astronauts to be a part of NASA’s _________  program- which, according to NASA’s website, “will establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon with the goal of sending humans to Mars.”

NASA is committed to landing American astronauts, including the first woman and the next man, on the Moon by 2024. Through the agency’s lunar exploration program, NASA  will use innovative new technologies and systems to explore more of the Moon than ever before. This they intend doing by  collaborating with  commercial and international partners to establish sustainable missions by 2028. With the learning gotten from the Moon –  NASA would  take the next giant leap – sending astronauts to Mars.

You may know that   is the Greek goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, wild animals, the Moon, and chastity.  Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and Leto, and the twin sister of Apollo. She was the patron and protector of young girls.  Artemis was worshipped as one of the primary goddesses of childbirth and midwifery along with Eileithyia. Much like Athena and Hestia, Artemis preferred to remain a maiden and is sworn never to marry.  Artemis was one of the most widely venerated of the Ancient Greek deities and her temple at Ephesus was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Artemis' symbols included a bow and arrow, a quiver and hunting knives and the deer and the cypress were sacred to her. The goddess Diana is her Roman equivalent worshipped on the Aventine Hill near Lake Nemi and in Campania.

Man’s connection to artemisia goes back a long way. They are found growing in large expanses throughout the world and surely would have caught the eyes of early hunters and gatherers. According to the Greek myths, it was Chiron who  developed the first medicines from artemisia. Now read this too :

Artemisia pallens, dhavanam from the Sanskrit name दमनक (damanaka),(Tamil: மரிக்கொழுந்து, தவணம், Marathi: दवणा, Kannada: ದವನ), is an aromatic herb, in genus of small herbs or shrubs, xerophytic In nature. The flowers are racemose panicles, bear numerous small yellow flower heads or capitula.  Artemisia pallens, comprises hardy herbs and shrubs known for their volatile oils. The stem is thin woody and the plant produced in an annual aromatic south Indian plants.  Dhavanam has alternate pinnasect leaves (leaf which is divided into opposite pairs of lobes cut almost to the midrib In narrow divisions) or palmatisect leaves.  It is commercially cultivated for its fragrant leaves and flowers.

With the onset of summer, Perumal takes rest under the roof made of dhavanam (Tamil: தவனம்) [Artemisia pallens].  This herb pervades great aroma and provides coolness.  In the recent years a kooralam [roof] made of Dhavanam is set up over the resting place of the Lord.

Today 11.3.2020 is  Masi Hastham celebrated as Thavana Uthsavam for Devathirajar.  At  Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam, Sri Varadharajar had purappadu in the morning to the vast expanse in Thulasinga Perumal Koil Street.  This bungalow is  “Thavana Uthsava Bungalow”   associating its name with the annual  davana Uthsavam.  At the Dhavana Uthsava Bungalow, Perumal had Thirumanjanam; in the evening purappadu inside the bungalow and at around 0630 pm periya mada veethi, kulakkarai purappadu back to sannathi.  Today, it was thirunakshathiram of Sri Koorathazhwan and there was rendition of Iramanusa noorranthathi too.

Here are some photos of morning purappadu of Sri Varadha Rajar to the davana uthsava bungalow @ around 0830 am.

If you remember the Q at the start, NASA will land first woman and next man on the moon by 2024 in a program called Artemis.  Artemis programme will use innovative technologies to explore more of lunar surface than ever before.  With the knowledge gained thus, they plan to aim at sending astronauts to Mars.
