At the junction of TP Koil Street and Besant Road – there is the Southern arch of Sri Parthasarathi temple.  NKT National girls high school is a stone’s throw away – on 19.1.2020 around 0930 pm – Srivaishanavas were waiting in groups and hearing the sound approaching, everyone of them felt happy.  More gleeful faces could be seen shortly – those Sripadham thangigal and some more were visibly tired but extremely enthusiastic still and happy – after walking (not mere walking) more than 60 kms on that day ! ~ the reason for their happiness ?

ஆனந்தம்  என்ற பெயர்ச்சொல்லுக்கு  உண்மையான அர்த்தம் என்ன ?  -  நாம் ஒரு பொருளை ரசித்து அனுபவிக்கும்போது ஆனந்தம் அடைகிறோம். சிலருக்கு தூக்கம் கூட ஆனந்தத்தை தர வல்லது. .. ..  அருள் கொண்டாடும்  அடியவனான ஸ்ரீவைணவனுக்கு யாது சந்தோஷத்தை தர வல்லது? நம் அனைவருக்கும் "எம்பெருமானுடைய க்ருபைக்கு மேற்பட்ட  க்ருபை உலகில் வேறு  ஏதேனும் உண்டோ ?"

Dictionary would define  it as "felicity" or "blissfulness" or the "state in which the desires are satisfied. For those able to view  life through a positive rather than a negative lens – it is happiness.  .. the whole World runs after it, though it is available everywhere, more specifically inside everybody.  ‘Is not Happiness – a State of mind ?”

Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory in psychology proposed by Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper "A Theory of Human Motivation" in Psychological Review. Maslow subsequently extended the idea to include his observations of humans' innate curiosity. His theories parallel many other theories of human developmental psychology, some of which focus on describing the stages of growth in humans. Maslow's hierarchy of needs is used to study how humans intrinsically partake in behavioral motivation. Maslow used the terms "physiological", "safety", "belonging and love", "social needs" or "esteem", and "self-actualization" to describe the pattern through which human motivations generally move. This means that in order for motivation to arise at the next stage, each stage must be satisfied within the individual themselves.

There will be umpteen theories in Western World – to us happiness is associating everything with our Lord and being contented. The term happiness is used in the context of mental or emotional states, including positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. It is also used in the context of life satisfaction, subjective well-being,  flourishing and well-being.  For many decades now,  happiness research has been conducted in a wide variety of scientific disciplines ! ~ in our philosophy, to be happy simply be detached to Worldly virtues and .. .. be attached to the lotus feet of our Emperuman Sriman Narayana.

How often do you venture out in the midnight or early hours ! not by car but on a cycle or by walk at 2.30am in the morning of 19.1.2020, cows were dozing at Thiruvallikkeni streets, while the Temple area was busy – yes purappadu at midnight (early morning).  It is the annual ‘Ekkadu thangal Thiru Ooral Uthsavam’ – when Sri Parthasarathi visits His place at Ekkadu, nearer Guindy.  On the banks of ‘Adayaru’ lies Ekkattuthangal, now an industrial belt and at Ekkadu there is a piece of land owned by Perumal.  Sri Parthasarathi visits this place once an year and has thirumanjanam – this sojourn starts  @ 3 am. (it used to be around 1 am earlier)   Sri Parthasarathi perumal has purappadu in palanquin – traversing through the city, halting at many a places including Thirumylai Sri Madhava Perumal temple and Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal temple; has purappadu with Sri Peyalwar at Chithiraikulam;  reaches His land at around 11 am, has thirumanjanam, again starts around 3 pm, purappadu at Saidapet, reaches back Thiruvallikkeni.

This is similar to purappadus like – Namperumal’s visit to Jeeyarpuram, Devapperumal visit to Rajakulam / chitra pournami / seevaram parvettai, Veeraraghavar visiting Sriperumpudur, Kaliyan’s sojourn for 11 Garuda sevai – some purappadus where Perumal goes out of the precincts travelling long way – it actually is very arduous for those involved, yet – everyone relishes in doing kainkaryam is the essence of life.

It is the ‘return purappadu’ (thirumbugal) that people were waiting at TP Koil st junction.  Just as glee befell on their faces, sripadhamthangial who had carried the pallakku and walked (running most part) were elated on the kainkaryam well-accomplished.  Happiness was writ large on their faces unmindful of the physical challenges and difficulties – their feet had been hurt and bleeding, some had cramps, pains over all part of bodies, shoulders would be aching with blisters – yet they were so committed that nothing was thought of than the beautiful purappadu of Emperuman on their shoulders. Their happiness was because, they had been instrumental in Sri Parthasarathi Perumal providing darshan and thereby happiness to thousands of bakths on the way and at places like Lloyds colony, Mylapore, abhiramapuram, Alwarpet, TNagar, Kodambakkam, West Mambalam, Ashoknagar, Guindy, Ekkadu, Saidapet, CIT colony and more .. ..

People like me have never even walked more than 20 kms on a day – these youngsters – the kainkaryabarars [Sripadhamthangis, Thirukovil Battacharyas, ameena,  Veda adhyapaka goshti, other kainkaryabarars like nadaswaram, theevatti and many others who had just accompanied Perumal] had travelled with the Perumal for the whole day starting from early morning coming back so late.  Take a bow to them. Really really admire their spirit of bakthi and service to Lord Sri Parthasarathi. 

Whilst the physical body would have cried for rest at home, reaching the junction was reaching home but not yet complete – from here on divyaprabandha goshti restarts and the purappadu becomes slow celebration – Sri Parthasarathi goes to Ganapathi street with hundreds waiting to have darshan and provide fruits and other offerings to the Lord. Sri Parthasarathi enters back the temple and it is not yet over for the kainkaryabarargal – it was ‘Thai Visakam’ and goshti at Swami Nammalwar sannathi.

வியன் மூவுலகு பெறினும்போய்த் தானே தானே யானாலும்,

புயல் மேகம்போல் திருமேனி அம்மான் புனைபூங்கழலடிக்கீழ்,

சயமே அடிமை தலைநின்றார் திருத்தாள் வணங்கி, இம்மையே

பயனே யின்பம் யான்பெற்றது  உறுமோ பாவியேனுக்கே?

விண் முதலான மூன்று  லோக ஸாம்ராஜ்யங்களைப் பெற்றாலும்,  அதற்கும் மேலான - 'கைவல்யம் எனும்  தன்னைத் தானே அநுபவிக்கின்ற மோக்ஷம் பெற்றாலும் - அவற்றையெல்லாம் விட சிறப்பான நிலை என்ன என்பதை ஸ்வாமி நம்மாழ்வார் நமக்கு இங்கே அருளிச்செய்கிறார்.   மழைகாலத்து கருண்ட பொதிந்த  மேகம் போன்ற திருமேனி வாய்ந்த எம்பெருமானுடைய, அழகாக சாற்றப்பெற்ற புஷ்பங்களையும் வீரக்கழலையுமுடைத்தான திருவடி வாரத்திலே, தன்னை முழுவதும் ஈடுபடுத்திக்கொண்ட கைங்கர்யம் செய்யும் அடியார்களின்  திருத்தாள்களை வணங்கி, அவர்களது நிலைக்கண்டு பேர் உவகை பெற்று யான் அடைந்த பயனே பெரிய பேறு ! ~ மற்றே  சொன்ன  ஐச்வர்ய கைவல்யங்கள் எவையும்  இப்பேற்றுக்கு ஒக்குமோ? என உறுதிபட உரைக்கிறார் நம் சடகோபன்.

Swami Nammalwar asserts and guides us – what is bigger and better than the  wealth of the three worlds and the enjoyment of one's self in heaven, put together- such happiness shall never equal the joy that Azhwar found here and now, through serving the selfless devotees of the cloud-hued Lord's lotus-feet.  He exerts us to think of doing service to Emperuman and to those serving Him.

மண்டகப்படி  என்ற வார்த்தையை கேள்வியுற்று இருக்கிறீர்களா ?   

How often do you venture out in the midnight or early hours ! not by car but on a cycle or by walk and what would be your reaction, if you are to be barked at by a group of fiery street mongrels and worser still, if they chase you !  .. .. Contrary to the notion that Cows and many other animals sleep standing – cattle   typically lie down to sleep or simply to rest, usually leaning forward on their chest and forelimbs or lying completely on their sides. Cows need their sleep to stay healthy; just as other animals do – so at 2.30am this morning, cows were dozing at Thiruvallikkeni streets, while the Temple area was busy – yes purappadu at midnight (early morning)

  

நான் ரொம்ப 'பிசி' என்று சொல்லிக்கொள்ளும் பலரும் ஒரு நாளில் என்னவெல்லாம் உருப்படியாக செய்கிறோம் ? - ஒரு நாள் திடீரென 'எவ்வளவு பயனற்ற வாழ்வு ' கழித்துள்ளோம் என்பது புரியும்.  பக்த சிரேஷ்டரான பொய்கையாழ்வார் அருளிச்செய்கிறார். :

பழுதே பலபகலும்*  போயினவென்று *  அஞ்சி-

அழுதேன்*  அரவணைமேல் கண்டு தொழுதேன்*

பழுது : பயனின்மை  ~   so may precious days in life have goneby wasted – I lament and cry for that .. .. .. to my fortune I saw the ocean-hued red-eyed Lord reclining on the serpent bed, -his feet caressed by lapping waves -and offered worship to him; and I realize that is the meaning of life. 

The city of Chennai does not have good river worth its name ~ there is Buckingham canal, Coovum river and .. river Adyaru.  You cross Adyar river at some places while traversing the city.  Apart from couple of dilapidated disused bridges – the bridges in the city over the river Adyaru  are : Thiru Vi Ka bridge at Adyar; bridge at Kotturpuram; Maraimalai adigalar bridge at Saidapet, causeway in West Saidapet; at Jafferkhanpet and one at Manapakkam.

Chennaites will never forget Dec 2015 when torrential rains swamped the city and water flowed over the bridge across Saidapet, inundating many places with transportation coming to a standstill.   The river Adyaru emanates from  Malaipattu  tank at  Manimangalam Village and traverses 42.5 km, flowing into Bay of Bengal.   On that fateful day when it flowed over bridges, it was reported that it was  carrying more than one lakh cusecs of water on December 2 and 3, much more than the official account.

On the banks of ‘Adayaru’ lies Ekkattuthangal, now an industrial belt and at Ekkadu there is a piece of land owned by Perumal.  Sri Parthasarathi visits this place once an year and has thirumanjanam – this sojourn starts  @ 3 am when even cows would be  asleep.  Sri Parthasarathi perumal had purappadu in palanquin – traversing through the city, halting at many a places including Thirumylai Sri Madhava Perumal templs and Sri Adhi Kesava Perumal temple; has purappadu with Sri Peyalwar at Chithiraikulam;  reaches His land at around 11 am, has thirumanjanam, again starts around 3 pm, purappadu at Saidapet, reaches back Thiruvallikkeni in the night.

If you are lucky, today, you may have darshan of Sri Parthasarathi having this special purappadu or go to the Ekkattuthangal and have darshan of thirumanjanam.  Today  19^th Jan 2020  is a tough and demanding day for the kainkaryabarars of Thiruvallikkeni – the sripadhamthangigal, Battar, Adhyapakas, various others engaged in doing service to Emperuman – for it is a long journey crisscrossing the city.  One needs to witness the difficulties posed – yet how those sripadhamthangigal remain cheerful throughout the journey – they literally run carrying the pallakku unmindful of the road conditions – and that is revelation of exemplary  commitment and the spirit of kainkaryam of the youngsters of Thiruvallikkeni. 

     திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்ய தேசத்தில் நடக்கும் ஒரு சிறப்பு உத்சவம் "ஈக்காட்டுத்தாங்கல் திருவூறல் உத்சவம்".  அடையாறு ஆற்றங்கரையில் கிண்டி அருகே உள்ள ஈக்காடு தொழிற்பேட்டைக்கு  ஸ்ரீபார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் பிரதி வருடமும் ஒரு நாள் எழுந்து அருள்கிறார்.  

திருவல்லிக்கேணி திவ்ய தேசத்தில் : நித்யப்படி, மாதந்திர, வருஷாந்திர உத்சவங்கள் பலவும் சிறப்புற நடைபெறுகின்றன.  திருநக்ஷத்திரம் கணக்கு இல்லாமல் நடக்கும் ஒரு சிறப்பு உத்சவம் "ஈக்காடுத்தாங்கல்  திருவூறல் உத்சவம்".  கிண்டி அருகே உள்ள ஈக்காடு தொழிற்பேட்டை பிரசித்தி பெற்றது. இது அடையாறு ஆற்றங்கரையில் உள்ளது.  ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் பிரதி வருடமும் ஒரு நாள் இங்கு எழுந்து அருள்கிறார்.  மாசி மாதம்  மற்ற சிறப்பு உத்சவங்கள் ஏதுவும் இல்லாத ஒரு ஞாயிற்றுக் கிழமை இவ்வுத்சவம் நடைபெறுகிறது.   இவ்வருடம் இவ்வுத்சவம் இன்று 19.1.2020  சிறப்புற நடைபெறுகிறது.

மண்டகப்படி  என்ற வார்த்தையை கேள்வியுற்று இருக்கிறீர்களா ?    அகராதியின்படி இப்பெயர்ச்சொல்லுக்கு :  திருவிழாக் காலத்தில் உற்சவமூர்த்தியை மண்டபத்தில் எழுந்தருளச் செய்வதற்காக ஒருவர் அல்லது ஒரு சமூகத்தினர் ஏற்கும் பொறுப்பு என உள்ளது. 

ஸ்ரீ பார்த்தசாரதி பெருமாள் நேராக எழுந்தருளாமல் வழியில் பல இடங்களில் இளைப்பாறுகிறார்.  திருக்கோவில்கள், சில நிறுவனங்கள், தனியாரின் வீடுகள் சில இந்த வரிசையில் உண்டு.  பல வருடங்களாக இவ்விடங்களில் பெருமாளுக்கு 'மண்டகப்படி' உண்டு.  பெருமாள் இவ்விடங்களில் எழுந்து அருளி, காத்து இருக்கும் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான பக்தர்களுக்கு அருள் பாலிப்பார்.  ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும்  காலசந்தி முடிந்து அதிகாலை ஒரு மணியளவில் பெருமாள்  திருக்கோவிலில் இருந்து புறப்பாடு கண்டருள்வார்.  இவ்வாண்டு எம்பெருமானின் திருமேனிக்கு அதீத கடினங்களை குறைக்க - மண்டகப்படி உள்ள இடங்களில் பெருமாள் இறங்கி இளைப்பாறுதல் அல்லாமல், ஸ்ரீபாதம் தாங்கிகளின் தோளிலேயே இருந்து, பக்தர்களுக்கு சேவை அளித்தார்.  இவ்வருடம் புறப்பாடு  அதிகாலை 3 மணியளவில் துவங்கியது. புறப்பாட்டின் போது எடுக்கப்பட்ட சில படங்கள் இங்கே.

Thiruvallikkeni Sri Azhagiya Singar Thai Swathi purappadu 2020

18^th Jan 2020 – 4^th day of Thai masam  is Swathi nakshathiram and there was grand purappadu of Sri Thelliya Singar.  Today raises great expectation for tonight (early morning of 19.1.2020) is ‘Ekkattuthangal Thiruvooral uthsavam’ – Sri Parthasarathi Perumal would transcend the boundaries of Thiruvallikkeni and visit His place near Saidapet, traversing Mylapore, T Nagar, Kodambakkam, KK Nagar and more .

இன்று ஸ்ரீஅழகியசிங்கர் எம்பெருமானின் அழகு கவர்ந்து இழுத்தது  ~ திருவல்லிக்கேணியை மங்களாசாசனம் செய்த பேயாழ்வார் - பக்தர்களது நெஞ்சத்துக்கு உபாயத்தை அளிக்கிறார். 

வடிவார் முடிகோட்டி வானவர்கள், நாளும்*

கடியார் மலர்தூவிக் காணும் - படியானை,*

செம்மையால் உள்ளுருகிச் செவ்வனே நெஞ்சமே,*

மெய்ம்மையே காண விரும்பு.

நாம் அதீத முயற்சி செய்தால் கூட பலன் இல்லாமல் போகலாம்; எம்பெருமான் தாமாகவே உவந்து நம் போன்றோர்க்கு தனது வடிவழகை, அவனது பொன்னங் கழலிணையை காட்டித் காட்டித் தந்தருளவேணும் என பிரார்திக்கிறார்.  எத்தகையோன் அவன் !!  -  வானவர்கள் - நித்யஸூரிகள் தங்களுடைய அழகிய முடிகளை வணங்கி நறுமலர்களைப் பணிமாறி ஸேவிக்கும்படியாகவுள்ள  வடிவழகிய நம்பி.   இப்படி அவனை காட்டக்காண்கையே செம்மையால் உள்ளுருகி செவ்வனே காணுதலாம். 

It was such a fabulous darshan of Sri Thelliya Singar  today –Emperuman dazzled in exceptional beauty making all bakthas bow to Him and yearn  for Him more.  It was china  mada veethi purappadu for less than half an hour yet everyone in Thiruvallikkeni had fullest satisfaction of having His darshan.

Sri Peyalwar advises :  appealing to the hearts – to think, offer self and melt oneself with the desire to see Him as He really is ~ the great Emperuman to whom the celestials bow their crowned heads at His feet offering choicest fresh flowers attempting the means to see Him.

Iyarpa sarrumurai 2020 : இயற்பா சாற்றுமுறை

 Iyarpa sarrumurai  2020 :   இயற்பா சாற்றுமுறை

வினையார் தரமுயலும் வெம்மையை   அஞ்சி,

தினையாம் சிறிதளவும் செல்ல - நினையாது

வாசகத்தால் ஏத்தினேன் வானோர் தொழுதிறைஞ்சும்,

நாயகத்தான் பொன்னடிக்கள் நான்.

கொடிய பாவங்கள் நிறைந்த இப்பூவுலகில்,  நமக்கு தீவினைகள் உண்டு பண்ண நினைக்கிற கொடிய துன்பங்களுக்கு அஞ்சி தினையளவு சிறிய அற்ப காலமும், நான் பரமபதத்திலே நித்யஸூரிகள் என்றென்றும்  தொழுது வணங்கும் பெருமை வாய்ந்த எம்பெருமான் ஸ்ரீமன் நாராயணனின் திருவடிகளை மனது உவக்கும்  சொற்களாலே துதிக்கின்றேன், அடியேன் அவற்றை தவிர திணைப்பொழுதும் வீணாகக் கழிய விரும்பமாட்டேன் என்கிறார் நம்மாழ்வார். 

In this earthly World giving more than ample sphere for sins and sins  - any act could lead to that sinful path, adding more harm.  Nammalwar says that he can only think of that Lord worshipped at Paramapadam by celestials whom he would like to praise with choicest words string neatly as garland in his poem without swerving weebit away from the chosen path of devotion. 

I have been posting details and photos of ‘Adhyayana Uthsavam’  comprising of Pagal Pathu, Vaikunda Ekadasi, Irapathu, culminating with Iyarpa Sarrumurai – during this great Uthsavam, “Naalayira Divaprabandham’ is rendered entirely. During Pagal pathu, it is the 1^st and 2^nd Aayiram pasurams including : Periyalwar Thirumozhi, Thiruppavai, Nachiyar Thirumozhi, Perumal Thirumozhi, Thiruchanda Vrutham, Thirumaalai, Thirupalliyezuchi, Amalalathipiraan, Kanninum Chiru thambu, Thirumozhi, Thirukurunthandagam, ThiruNedumthandagam are recited in the  afternoons.

The Irapathu is hailed as ‘Thiruvaimozhi Thirunaal’ when after the purappadu, daily one hundred from Thiruvaimozhi  are rendered everyday.   On day 10, it is the last canto ‘Patham Pathu’ of Swami Nammalwar, which speaks of ‘entering Vaikundam’ by all ‘vaikuntham puguvathu mannavar vithiye’ in the pasuram of  Nammalwar.  

The day after the culmination of Irapathu,  comes “Iyarpa Sarrumurai” when all pasurams of Iyarpa are being rendered.  Today, 16^th Jan 2020,  it was the Iyarpa sarrumurai at Thiruvallikkeni and all other divyadesams.  At the Thiruvaimozhi Mandapam, there was the grand golu of all Azhwargal and Acharyas and in the centre was Lord Parthasarathi.  Divyaprabandha goshti started around 0500 pm  ~ the pasurams forming part of the Moondravathu Aayiram, known as Iyarpa : Muthal Thiruvanthathi,   Irandam Thiruvanthathi, Moonram Thiruvanthathi, Nanmugan Thiruvanthathi, Thiruvirutham, Thiruvasiriyam, Periya Thiruvanthathi, Thiruvezhuk koorrirukkai, Siriya Thirumadal, Periya Thirumadal and Iramanuja Noorranthathi [also known as Prabanna Gayathri] of Thiruvarangathu Amuthanar were all rendered.
