Udayavar Yaanai vahanam - day 8 (இராமானுசமுனி வேழம்) 2018

Udayavar Yaanai vahanam - day 8 (இராமானுசமுனி வேழம்) 2018

The Mānasollāsa, also known as Abhilashitartha Chintamani, is an early 12th century Sanskrit text composed by the South Indian king Someshvara III of the Kalyani Chalukya dynasty. It is an encyclopedic work that inter-alia states that it is the sovereign’s duty to protect the forests where elephants thrive — because only the richest and widest of forests can support the large, long-ranging Elephas maximus.  Miles away, conservationists in Tanzania's Tarangire National Park have learned a 57-year-old elephant gave birth to twins in August 2017. Elephant twins are rare, and mortality is often higher among twins, but the calves are reportedly doing well.

The glittering white metal ‘Silver’ prices  extended their sharp rally in London trade Thursday, reaching new 11-week highs for US investors at $17.30 per ounce while gold edged back from an overnight rise.  There is still some work to be done, but a weekly close above 17.70 will have silver trading out in ‘open space’.

As if investors didn't have enough to worry about already, Wednesday provided them with yet another one. A strong performance in the crude oil market underscored the ongoing geopolitical tensions which have served to buoy the price of gold lately. Gold prices rose to a one-week high on Wednesday in light trading. Safe-haven demand was still evident even though the U.S. dollar held firm and equities rose. Spot gold was 0.2 percent higher for the day to close at $1,349. June gold futures meanwhile settled up $4, or 0.3 percent, to close at $1,353. The story on Wednesday in the financial press was that strong corporate earnings served to suppress gold while lifting stock prices. While there was definitely a show of strength Wednesday in many NASDAQ-listed stocks, there were also more than a few instances of relative weakness in NYSE shares.

Back homes the price rise was for an entirely different reason ! On a day that marked the Akshaya Tritiya,  gold prices in Delhi rose by a marginal Rs. 30 per 10 grams. Buying by jewellers on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya and weakness in the rupee against the US dollar boosted gold prices; perhaps it was not that craze for gold this Akshaya tritiya - there are different reasons that are affecting gold prices in International Market. The current war state and conflict in Syria is adversely damaging gold prices. In addition, oil prices have also seen a rise in a past few days. Gold rates are significantly increased because of the unstable condition in the Middle East Region.

You are reading this, for, yesterday was “Akshaya Tritiya”  the day when Lord Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, is believed to have been born. It is considered one of the most auspicious days in the year and, as such, people not only buy jewellery but also perform all 'shubh karya' on the day.  One of the most important legends associated with observing Akshaya Trithiya is that of Lord Krishna and Kuchela. Another significant mythology is that of the Pandavas receiving the Akshay Patra from Krishna.

I have posted earlier  on how marketeers have converted this to be a day of buying gold ornaments and silver ~ making it a great day for the Sellers.  The word "Akshaya" means the never diminishing in Sanskrit and the day is believed to bring good luck and success. Traders have made it appear that it is the day when one must make purchases ~ even  with Wednesday’s silver rally, the precious metal is still significantly undervalued, said Goldmoney.  The reason for such a gap between where the prices are and where they should be is the massive short selling in the futures market, the report stated, adding that it is unsustainable and that a major reversal is inevitable.

This is no post on Gold or Silver – but on our Acharyar Emperumanaar. Today, (19th Apr 2018) the 8th day of the Uthsavam,  it was ‘yaanai vahanam’ for Udayavar in the evening; and the yaanai in Thiruvallikkeni is silvery.   Swami Emperumanaar had purappadu on the silver elephant and the oozing grace simply outweighed the serenity and beauty of the moon – one could see only the kindness and glory of Swami.  Here are some photos of Swami Yathirajar on Yaanai vahanam.
