Sri Vedanthachar Sarrumurai 2017

Today 1^st Oct 2017  is  ‘ Thiruvonam ‘ in the month of Purattasi ~ the day marking the sarrumurai of Sri Vedanthachar.

Swami was born in  Thoopul, near Kanchipuram;  was named Venkatanatha and grew to become a great scholar.  Thupul [Thiruthanka] is a Divyadesam where Sri Deepa Prakasar is the presiding deity.   Swami born near Thirukachi was associated with Thiruvarangam and Melukote too.  Whilst on his way,  Vedanthachar at Sriperumpudur composed Yathiraja Sapthathi on Swami Emperumanaar. 

At Thiruvarangam, he debated with scholars of other sampradaya and defeated them.  At the time when Srirangam was invaded by Islamic invaders, swami was to travel to Karnataka and later visited Melukote where Swami Ramanujar lived for 12 years.  He was a great scholar and of his many works, ‘Raghuveera Gadyam’ in prosaic manner hails  Lord Rama's valour and  was composed when he was residing at the temple town of Thiruvahindrapuram. 

At  Thiruvallikkeni today , there was periya mada veethi purappadu of Sri Parthasarathi along with Sri Vedanthachar.  Iramanusa Noorranthathi was rendered in the goshti.  Here are some photos taken during the purappadu.
