Karapakkam Gangai Amman Thirukovil - Sri Anjaneyar sannithi

Old Mahabalipuram Road [OMR] is a famous, prominent fast corridor – the winding  OMR aka Rajiv Gandhi Salai  starts near the Kasturiba Nagar Railway station -  the Madhya Kailash temple in Adyar in South Chennai – winds it way till Mahabalipuram – being the earliest route – and hence  carries the name ‘Old Mahabalipuram Road’ – this is State highway-49A.  From Madhya Kailash,  it is designated ‘toll road’ and you have toll booth near Thuraipakkam (DB Jain College) as also in other places from where one enters OMR.

The corridor where some madly race in the jostling traffic alongside big plush buses; PTC buses; private vehicles; share autos and so many two wheelers  – there are people changing lanes suddenly, riding on wrong lane, sudden turns unmindful of vehicles coming behind; big buses turning at will; people jumping over the median ….and more.. The IT Corridor  is perhaps one route which has most of the airconditoned buses !

Almost 10 kms from the SRP Tools / Thiruvanmiyur junction is Karapakkam, one a village, now housing number of BPO/ IT/ITES companies and Royal Sundaram, besides many other Corporates.  At Karapakkam, near Arvind Theatre, there is ‘ Arulmigu Gangai Amman Thirukovil’ popularly Karapakkam Sivan Kovil, with a temple tank.  This temple was recently renovated about a couple of months ago.  It has Amman sannathi, Siva lingam, Murugan sannithi, Iyyappan sannithi, Sri Maha Vishnu and one exclusively for Aanjaneyar.

The son of Vayu  [Pavana puthra] – Hanumar is the epitome of great virtues ~  a great character – a warrior, mightily powerful, whose body was as hard as a diamond, whose speed equalled those of fastest flying eagles, who possessed great wisdom, who could organize a group of roaming ones, who can jump hundreds of miles, yet who remained at the feet of his Master, totally committed thinking of their welfare alone – unassuming, yet capable of telling the right things at the right moment – that is Pavana Puthra Hanuman. Lord Hanuman is everywhere – on mountains, big temples, street corners and more ~  and here at Karapakkam Hanuman stands tall – a 8 ft idol blessing all His devotees.

Here are some photos of the temple and Lord Anjaneya
