festivities at Thiruvallikkeni ~ yesterday I had posted about the Vasantha
Uthsavam – of the erstwhile Vasantha Uthsava Bungalow and more ~ sad that the
big spacious sprawling premises of Vasantha Uthsava Bungalow is no longer
there……..
Heard
of ‘Mimusops elengi Maulsari’ a medium-sized evergreen tree found in
tropical forests in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Northern Australia. English
common names include Spanish cherry, Medlar, and Bullet wood. In Hindi
Maulsari. Its timber is valuable, the fruit is edible, and it has traditional
medicinal uses.
In tune
with celebrating the Season of Spring ~ Vasantha Ruthu… whence flowers blossom
and you see beautifully coloured leaves on trees, today Sri Parthasarathi
Perumal had the choicest of garlands. The sarrupadi [alankaram] was that of the
Emperor adorning crown called Pandian
kondai and sceptre ~ the outermost
garland was that of viruchi… then fresh jasmine about to blossom, rose and then
thickly strung magizham poo. Great sight
to behold. The
name that you read in the 2nd para is that of ‘Magizham poo’ also
known as ‘Vakulam poovu’….
