Today is a day of great significance, for we Celebrate the ‘Birth  of Bhagwan Sri Krishna’.  Ithihasa Puranas are the fundamentals to tenets of Vaishnava philosophy and one can learn everything in Sri Ramayana and Mahabaratha.

The birth of Lord Sri Krishna at Mathura to Vasudeva and Devaki is celebrated with gaiety everywhere.  While some celebrate the coming of Lord Krishna to this Universe on Ashtami day as ‘Gokulashtami’ – in South India, it is more with the star of ‘Rohini’ and the birth day is being celebrated as : Krishna Jayanthi, Janmashtami, Gokulaashtami, Sri Jayanthi and more – all various names celebrating the birth of Bhagwan Lord Sri Krishna in this Universe on the Ashtami (8th day of dark half of Krishna paksha) on the Rohini Nakshathiram.  This year, the festival falls on 8th Sept 2012.  Will post tomorrow on why only this is  ‘Sri Jayanthi’.

Recently had darshan at the temple of Govind Dev Ji Temple, located in the City Palace complex, in Jaipur, Rajasthan.  People here believe that the Lord looks exactly as how He looked during his incarnation on earth.   It is stated that the image of the deity (murti) was brought from Vrindavan here by Raja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur.  According to popular legend, the Holy Image of Lord Govind Devji was also called "Bajrakrit" communicating thereby that it was created by Bajranabh – The Great Grand Son of Lord Shri Krishna.  Centuries later, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu also worshipped this vigraha.  'Aartis' and 'Bhog' are offered seven times a day, when the deity is unveiled for 'Darshan'.   Lord Krishna being worshipped here is the "The Aradhya Deva of Jaipur",  and  cannot be seen separately from the life of people of Jaipur.

This temple of  Shri Govind Devji Maharaj, is situated at Jai Niwas Garden Campus, Jaipur 302 002.  The satsang bhavan here is hailed in the Guinnessbook of World Records as having the widest RCC flat roof construction with a single span of  feet.   The work that started on7th July 2007 was concluded after  days.  It is stated that it took 36 hours to lay its roof.
