Thiruvallikkeni Thiruther - people !! - 2022

Today (26.2.2022)  was the grand occasion of Thiruther for Sri  Parthasarathi Perumal.  Thiruther is most majestic and thousands descend to the divyadesam to have glimpse of Emperuman and the rolling juggernaut.  We worship Sriman Narayana, as  devotees and followers of the Vedic path, we firmly believe that  Lord Krishna descended on this Universe some  5,000 years ago.  His upadesam Srimad Bhagavad Geetha is the greatest treasure trove, rendered in the midst of Mahabaratha, when He offered to drive the chariot of Arjuna and earned the sobriquet ‘Sri Parthasarathi’.

0ne will realise the grandeur  of rolling juggernaut, if one were to stand near as the 8 or 9 feet wheel rotates by.  Thiruther is a grand occasion of togetherness of people.  During Brahmothsavam thousands throng Temple and have darshan of Perumal in His veethi purappadu ~ significantly, during Thiruther, thousands partake – they pull, go around, push, offer buttermilk and panakam [jaggery water] to devotees and there is celebrations on the air, clearly visible.

Could recall that the Thiruther of yore was even bigger ~ in 1980s for a couple of years, there was no Thiruther purappadu as it was under repair – when made again, in tune with times, it got reduced a bit – also now it has steel wheels; the earlier one had wooden wheel… it now runs on concrete cement road.  Thiruther, the chariot, is easily the most grandeur and most attended by bakthas too. Ratha [the chariot] has existed in puranic days, historic days and more.  We have heard of Kings of recent past having had platoons of horse and horse-driven chariots.

On screen too, we have seen many – one got enamoured by the scene of Arjuna wading through the forces in Mahabaratha  - even those chariots were quite attractive.  Ratha is not only fleet-footed mode during war, it symbolizes energy and zeal to move forward.  It was on the chariot steered by Lord Krishna, Geethopadesam occurred to Arjuna, the mighty warrior.  The rath itself according to legend was given by Agni.  The battle formation was unconceivably bigger ~ by some accounts an Akshauhini is described as a formation consisting of 21870 chariots, 21870 elephants, 65160 cavalry and more than a lakh of infantry.

Odisha’s king Narshimhadeva, the first of Eastern Ganga dynasty, decided to make a huge temple complex consisting of four temples dedicated to the Sun god in 1255 AD. The site chosen by the architects was in the north-eastern corner of Puri, one of the four sacred dhams – Konarak,  Bhubaneswar.  The Konark temple is designed in the form of the chariot of the Sun god. It has 24 wheels and seven horses.

It was a grand festive day at Thiruvallikkeni Divyadesam – the chariot was pulled at 07.00 am and reached back the place by 08.25 am ~ it was heavenly.  In the goshti, it was Thirumozhi of Thirumangai Mannan.  Thiruther is celebration of people – thousands had assembled at Thiruvallikkeni to have darshan of Sri Parthasarathi Emperuman and glee was lit large in their faces – here are some photos of people.

Hanumantha Vahanam -

The mighty Hanuman excelled in his role as emissary -   Hanuman was destined to bigger deeds – of organizing an army comprising of monkeys in search of Sita, his great leap into the sea, crossing it and reaching the fortified Lanka; slaying wicked demon and meeting Sita at Ashoka vanam; sitting majestically before the King Ravana and burning the whole of Lanka ……… more than all these, the one role he relished most was carrying the ‘Ithihasa Purush’ on his shoulders and thus earning the title ‘Siriya Thiruvadi’ – the carrier of Lord Sri Rama.

In Bollywood and in Kollywood, often Hinduism is ridiculed .. .. Tollywood perhaps is still different, there have been so many beautifully made movies depicting our puranas and divine places.

Hanuman was an  animated feature film directed by V. G. Samant and produced by Percept Picture Company and Silvertoons released in 2005 depicting the life   of its title character, Hanuman, Pavana puthra.  It is India's first full length fully animated feature film released theatrically (there were several earlier ones made by Pentamedia Graphics). The film collected more than 8 crores  and was a big  hit at the box office.  The narrator is actor Mukesh Khanna. The movie relays how Hanuman was born to Anjani   and Kesari, by the blessings of Vayu-Deva. Aanjaneya was blessed with supreme intelligence, strength and divine powers. As a baby, Hanuman was quite naughty; once when he was hungry, he leapt to catch the Sun thinking it was a fruit.

Mega star Chiranjeevi often portrayed himself as bakth of Aanjaneya.  Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (Earthly warrior and the otherworldly beauty) is a 1990 Telugu fantasy film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao, from a screenplay written by Rao and Jandhyala. It starred Chiranjeevi and Sridevi – the  plot revolves around a man who finds a ring that gives the bearer great power!

Jai Chiranjeeva song in the movie ‘Jagadekaveerudu Athiloka Sundari’ written by Veturi set to the music of Illayaraja sung by SP Sailaja – you may hear this here   :

One must keep the kind away from fear – and surrendering to Sriman Narayana,  the Saviour is the easiest way.  We fall at the feet of Sri Parthasarathi  emperuman  and look to him to salvage us.  At Thiruvallikkeni during the special Brahmothsavam  for Sri Parthasarathi  day 5 today  (24.2.2022)  was hectic -  morning   was  ‘Nachiyar thirukolam;  in the evening pathi ulathal -   and then the  most majestic ‘Hanumantha’ vahanam !  Today 24.2.2022   is a glorious day – it is day 5 of Special Brahmothsavam at   Here are some photos of  Sri Parthasarathi  Emperuman purappadu at Thiruvallikkeni divyadesam  - Hanumantha vahanam.
